Recently MTV Iggy had unprecedented access to Bollywood’s biggest star, Shah Rukh Khan, and his leading lady in 5 previous films, Kajol Devgan. The pair with sparkling onscreen chemistry have teamed up for a new film, My Name is …
Move over SRK
We were the first ones to tell you that Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan will not be hosting the Filmfare awards this year. And now it’s official. In stead of the two Khans, another Khan (Imran) and a Kapoor (Ranbir) are jointly hosting the awards next Sunday.
A source spills the beans, “Ranbir and Imran are good friends and have a great equation. They both are polar opposites, with Imran being shy and reserved, while Ranbir is a total brat. They have worked on a hilarious script and plan to have a ball at the awards.” Apart from the duo, Farhan Akhtar and Karan Johar too will host a segment.
NEW DELHI: As year 2008 draws to a close, all eyes are now on an employee of a state electricity board to ignite the box-office, a fete that a mythological superhero, an anti-hero, and even a rock star failed to do so far. Come Dec 12, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be seen as commoner Surinder Sahni who works for Punjab Power Board in “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”.
Going by the film’s tagline, it is a story of a common man who is happy in his mundane existence but undergoes an image makeover to win a small-time dance competition and the heart of his sweetheart.
Bollywood has been churning out mega-budget films with pioneering special effects in an attempt to make screen heroes all the more larger than life. “Dronaâ€, “2050 Love Storyâ€, “Kidnapâ€, “Yuvraaj†– all came and went but none left a lasting impact.
Like his movies, Shah Rukh Khan’s business ventures are also larger than life, and extremely well publicised. He’s also known for his rather exclusive lifestyle, which he doesn’t shy away from accepting.
If he lives in Mannat, the building that’s grand enough to come under the purview of the Protected Structures Act, he is also involved in a Dh 8 billion (US$2.18 bn) residential development project on the Dana Islands in Ras al Khaimah, Dubai.
He can buy the IPL’s Kolkata franchisee for $75.09 million, and gets the most exclusive suite, worth Rs 18 lakh a night, suspended between the resort’s two towers, at the opening party of Dubai’s Atlantis Palm Jumeirah resort, ahead of a host of Hollywood celebrities. Mannat is said to be worth Rs 135 crore, he has a villa in the UK, Shah Rukh’s net worth is estimated to be at Rs 1500 crore, and he has recently been awarded the title of Datuk by the Malaysian government.
Following the attacks in Mumbai on November 26th, security has been stepped up at all major locations in the country. But its not just famous landmarks that are feeling the threat – superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s sea facing palatial home Mannat has also been given increased security following 26/11.
“Normally there is ample parking space near his home where anyone can park their cars. But since the incident took place there is a lot more police patrolling and no one is allowed to park close to his home,†says a local resident.
“Recently someone tried to park their car but they were asked to move it. No vehicle can be parked for a certain distance all around Mannat. Even the police security provided to SRK has been stepped up. You normally see one or two policemen at the gate. But since the attack there has been a police van perpetually stationed outside his home,†adds another source.
One of the biggest things of worry for SRK is probably the fact that his home faces the sea. And with next to no security or patrolling there, it only seems natural to see SRK want to step up security outside his home.
Mumbai, Dec 08: Shah Rukh Khan has a personality as rich as his income. However, King Khan’s take on his income and price varies from popular perception. He considers his price very ‘normal’ as compared to fellow actors. This might just be taken as a dig at Sanjay Dutt, who has slashed his fee considering the enormous losses faced by Mumbai Film Industry, and of course, the recession.
“Well, I won’t have to slash my prices. I don’t charge that much,†declared Shah rukh. He clarified his point adding, “I never discuss the prices with the producer and work if I like the film. I am just priceless. I just sign the contract in the end and people in the accounts department tell me, this much money I have at the end of the year. I have worked at 2.5 crore in ‘Chak De’ to 6 crore in ‘Om Shanti Om’.â€
“If you want to further cut, I am ok. I don’t participate in profits of a film.†King Khan said to a news daily.
When asked about the recent terror attacks on Mumbai, and his views on the same, he said, “The more I see these kinds of things over the years, more it makes me realise two things very-very clearly —one the vulnerability of life and the second part is that how important it is for me…that I need to spend time with my loved ones.’ Perhaps this is the reason we find him shooting at home!
