Hrithik’s popularity puts reality show in trouble!
http://movies.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2961166.cms
Hrithik Roshan’s immense fan following recently gave the production team of a reality show a terrible headache as his fans just kept pouring in on the sets when they were strictly uninvited!
Said the unit hand of the dance reality show ‘Yeh Hai Jalwa’, “We had a tough time managing the crowds as not only Hrithik’s fans gate crashed the show but also the relatives of the contestants who were strictly warned not to come! All this populated the show unnecessarily creating havoc and chaos! Even Hrithik was taken aback by all this!
Dressed in an ‘all-denim’ outfit even Hritihik looked tense and finally shook a leg to calm down his wild fans! He danced on Krazzy 4’s ‘Breakfree’ just to oblige his fans who had come from the nook and corner of the country to get a glimpse of him. We (the production team) suffered though!” said a frustrated production member of the show! Now this is what we call the Jalwa of Hrithik Roshan!

When filmmaker George Lucas recently said, “Big-budget movies will soon be history”, he wasn’t talking about Bollywood. Because going by the recent trend, the Hindi film industry seems to be growing bigger in terms of money spent on a project.
“The star cast of a film decides the budget today,” says trade analyst, Taran Adarsh. “If you’re making a multi-starrer, that takes care of half your accounts. It also ensures good returns,” he says.

Suneet Verma is excited about styling Hrithik Roshan in Anurag Basu’s Kites
Often described as a Greek God, Hrithik Roshan is without a doubt a ‘dream body’ to bag. The big challenge, however, is how to make this well-known clotheshorse look even more gorgeous than he already does!
But with 21 solid years in the fashion industry, confidence isn’t something Suneet Verma lacks. Interestingly, the Delhi-based designer has been roped in for Anurag Basu’s Kites (being produced by Rakesh Roshan) and will be styling the look for both Hrithik as well his foreign co-star Barbara Mori.

There’s a strong rumour that all costume dramas, period films
,
and historicals including Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ashok And Ramayan have been aborted following protests and controversies surrounding Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa-Akbar.
But Sushmita Sen is all consumed by her passion to go ahead with her Rani Laxmibai and is amazed at the parallels drawn between Laxmibai and Jodhaa.
Hits and misses of Bollywood in Q1 2008
EconomicsTimes
As April arrives, one starts planning for the new financial year. And our plans are quite based on the pros and cons of the previous economic year. Bollywood too completed its first quarter of 2008 and hope the filmmakers learn from the ups and downs of this phase in the coming three quarters. Here’s assessing on which flick clicked in the first quarter of 2008 in Bollywood.
Hits
From more than a dozen releases in three months, only two films managed to work successfully at the box-office surviving for more than the first week. Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnanimous period drama Jodhaa Akbar was the first hit of the year, in fact a blockbuster. The grand canvas at which the film, budgeted at Rs 40 crores was mounted, showed in every frame of the film. Despite all the controversy surrounding its historical recreation, the film faired extremely well in the domestic market and won a super-hit tag in the overseas territory. The film got an advantage of consecutive maiden weeks with no release in its following 3 weeks of release. The release was planned accordingly and also other medium to small films tried to keep safe distance from this mammoth movie.
Jodhaa Akbar is now the 7th biggest All Time Grosser at the Worldwide Box Office with revenues close to Rs.130 crores. The film has performed incredibly well in the international markets becoming the 2nd highest all time grosser for any Indian film in the US & Australia. Jodhaa Akbar is also featured amongst the Top 5 Hindi film earners of all time in the Middle East & the highest non SRK starrer in the UK after Dhoom 2, two years ago.
Race neck-and-neck with Jodhaa Akbar

Both Jodhaa Akbar and Race from the UTV stable are said to be the two major hits of the year so far. While Jodhaa…, now in its 8th week, is still going strong collecting Rs 38,33, 749 (domestic) at an average/print return of Rs 58,087 in its seventh week, Race in its second week collected Rs 12,99, 67, 237 at an average per print cost of Rs 2,21,455. To ascertain which film is doing better among the two and which of these will be the ultimate winner, we spoke to a few trade analysts. “Race is definitely a hit,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra adding, “The film, the production cost of which is between Rs 25 to Rs 26 crore, has already bagged Rs 60 crore worldwide. The figures itself says it all.” In its third week now, Race has collected Rs 2,33,02, 643 that includes collections of Thane also. Compared to that, Jodhaa Akbar had collected Rs 3, 28, 76, 599 (domestic) of 90 prints in the second week.
“It is difficult to ascertain which film will be the ultimate winner. Right now since Race is still in its preliminary stages it is a difficult proposition. But all said and done both the films are doing well and there shouldn’t be much of a difference between the two when the overall figures are taken into consideration,” says Taran Adarsh.
“The overall business of Jodhaa Akbar till date has been good but that of Race is excellent. The collections of Race have been better since day one but there have been several obstructions in the case of Jodhaa Akbar. Besides the protests and ban thereof of the period film in states like Rajasthan, UP and MP. The business of both the films have been uniform so far and according to me, the net income will have a marginal difference,” says N.P.Yadav.
Air Buddies
Mumbai Mirror
Hrithik Roshan joins the IPL bandwagon as the face for Mukesh Ambani’s team, Mumbai Indians. The actor, who is presently shooting an elaborate ad campaign and a music video for the team at ND Studios in Karjat, is getting royal treatment. Apart from a whopping fee, Ambani has let out his custom-built private chopper to transport the actor from the city to Karjat, and back. The story goes that when Ambani had approached Hrithik, he was keen to endorse the team, but expressed anguish over travelling to Karjat for shooting purposes, as he is nursing his knee injury. The billionaire business magnate immediately promised to provide ‘comfortable’ transport, which later came in the form of his private chopper.
A source close to Mukesh Ambani says, “We have chosen Hrithik to be the face of our team and shoot for the IPL anthem because he has the right persona and attitude.”
The source further informs, “They shoot in the night at ND Studios, as the video has a night sequence. So Hrithik boards the chopper by 5 pm, and reaches the sets in minutes. Hrithik shoots till the wee hours and flies back to Mumbai after the shot is over in the same chopper.”

I don’t think anyone except Salman knows what he wants - Katrina Kaif
Express India

And while she awaits her next two releases, Singh is Kinng opposite Akshay Kumar and Yuvraj with beau Salman Khan, Kaif is busy with brand endorsements. In the city to endorse Slice for which she is the brand ambassador, Kaif chats to PALLAVI JASSI about life in Bollywood.
You have modelled since you were 14, and have now been acting for three years. What career do you prefer?
Endorsements have more to do with your personal identity and what you stand for as an individual. But acting is about living out a different character. So I’d say they are two different things.

NDTV Saturday, April 5, 2008:
Anupama Chopra, Consulting Editor, Films
Kajol is hyper selective about her roles and maintains a strict distance from the media. Anupama Chopra, Consulting Editor, Films, spoke to the talented actress about U, Me Aur Hum, her honesty to the craft and marriage.
Anupama Chopra: You have always been most successful and sort of candy floss romances where as Ajay is more successful, work has been slightly more gritty realistic films. So was there ever a clash of the two schools while you were making this movie or did he just convert to candy floss?
Kajol: I don’t think it was a conversion exactly to candy floss but the film that we had written was very very commercial we haven’t tried to make an Ardh Satya or something like that, it is not meant to be in that genre of film at all. It’s a commercial, good-looking film so we have been able to infuse some emotion into that as well.
Not a racy beginning
Three hits this quarter is not impressive. But industry experts are optimistic about the year ahead
Hindu BusinessLine - Shubhra Gupta

Bollywood’s quarterly report for this year: one certified hit (Jodhaa Akbar), one heading towards a hit (Race), and one multiplex success (Mithya). Three in three months is not impressive, but industry expats are optimistic about the year ahead. Says veteran film PRO Om Prakash Katiyal, “The next three months, you wait and watch, will be very good”. A look at the last three months gone by is illustrative of what has worked. According to figures supplied a couple of weeks ago by producers UTV, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar, at Rs 120 crore, has become one of the top ten grossers worldwide (the list is toplined by last year’s Om Shanti Om at Rs 168.75 crore, bottoming out with Lage Raho Munna Bhai at Rs 119.41 crore).
Hrithik Roshan brand ambassador for IPL’s Team Mumbai?
Indiatimes Movies
Mukesh Ambani became the proud owner of Team Mumbai at the Indian Premiere League by placing the winning bid of $111.9 mn. Hailed ‘Mumbai Indians’, the team has the Sudarshan Chakra for its logo and will be ably led by Sachin Tendulkar. However, the Mumbai Indians, consisting of players like Harbhajan Singh, Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga, Shaun Pollock, Luke Ronchi…, has been criticized for it’s pick-n-mix of players and is touted to be the ‘weakest team’.
Given the nature of the IPL, teams like Kolkata Knightriders and King XI (Mohali) have received their fair share of publicity and promotion, what with actors Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta owning them (respectively). The Delhi Daredevils, too, have upped their EQ (Entertainment Quotient) by appointing Khiladi Akshay Kumar to be their brand ambassador.
Not to be outdone so easily, the Mumbai Indians may have found a brand ambassador in Hrithik Roshan. At least that’s the speculation so far and close friends of the actor also confirm that Roshan will soon be shooting for an ad campaign and even an album - the music for which has been composed by Anu Malik - for Mumbai Indians. With Hrithik being high on the popularity charts right now and in the actors’ premiere league, his participation in whatever capacity will definitely be a boost to Team Mumbai.
Turn-of-the-century look did it for ‘Race’
BOX OFFICE - TOI
NIKHAT KAZMI
Tha industry welcomes it’s third hit of the year. After Welcome and Jodhaa Akbar, it is Abbas-Mustan’s Race which is racing ahead, with box office collections measuring upto Rs 35 crore in its first week.
The multi-starrer about two step brothers plotting each other’s death seems to have struck a chord amongst viewers, despite the film’s ethical amorphousness. In an industry, where cinema has largely serenaded the filial bond and cried buckets over good-bad brothers, Race has conveniently tilted the moral equilibrium. And won accolades too. Hail the new Indian viewer!
The film has scored largely due to its turn-of-the-century look. Ever since Don and Dhoom II, Indian cinema is hell bent on charting a new course for itself in terms of image and style. The lavishly mounted Race almost perfects the Hollywood idiom in desi cinema. Add to this, the oomph factor of the glamour girls — Bipasha, Katrina, Sameera — and the X factor of the three heroes — Saif, Akshay, Anil — and the audience seems to have found its paisa-vasool product.
More importantly, the film has done exceedingly well in Pakistan too, according to trade reports. It was released simultaneously in nine cities with 15 prints. The response has been exceedingly encouraging, according to reports, with one theatre alone raking in Rs 22 lakh in Karachi. Earlier, Welcome was the first official Indian release in Pakistan, after the government lifted the ban and allowed Indian films to be released in Pakistan, after being duly censored within the country. Feroz Nadiadwala’s comedy, loosely based on Hollywood’s Mickey Blue Eyes, has managed a decent picking of Rs 1 crore in a six-week run. This is indeed a huge sum for an industry which has been in the doldrums for quite some time.
