Karzzzz - Music Review

Himesh…it’s been a while. After Aap Ka Surroor this might be his biggest album. Let’s face it…he sings from his nose…he’s a nasal singer…sometimes he acts like a Salman Khan wannabe, he’s arrogant, most of his songs sound a like these days…who cares…the guy can still deliver chart-busters. It seems like he tries extra hard for an album when actually starring in the film. Himesh’s style of singing has always been critisized, yet people still get his tracks to the number one position. So will Karzzzz be another great album like Aap Ka Surroor???

1) Lut Jaoon Lut Jaoon - This is suppose to be the title track of the film…Harshdeep Kaur is a new young talent…her voice is very different…she has a blend of today and yesterday in her…if she gets a permanent position in Himesh’s camp she can do wonders. As for Himesh who carries this song…what can I say…I just love the passion he puts into his singing…the lyrics are top notch…and the echoing in between the alaap’s is just gives you goosebumps. Very wicked track…I can hear this one over and over again.

2) Hari Om Hari Om - Himesh starts the song just like Om Shanti Om from Karz…Himesh kicks some lines about how he can live without his lover and all…the typical bollywood lines…and then he starts chanting Hari Om Hari Om…at first it sounds really wierd and awkward…but as the song progresses you kind of get used to it…thats how it is when it comes to Himesh bhai hahahahaha. This one is a decent track…the Sitar/guitar piece which is played throughout the song is incredible.

3) Tandoori Nights - Tandoori nights…you ask me…hahahahaha…whatta title…my goodness…oh well…this one is very catchy…chart-buster for sure…Sunidhi Chauhan accompanies Himesh this time around…both share great chem here…the chrous, “tak tananana tandoori nights”…very catchy. The lyrics are great here as well and the background music is perfectly placed/pitched for the singers to shine…good track….by the way have you guys seen Urmila in this track…FIRE.

Bachna Ae Haseeno - My Review

Ranbir Kapoor’s second film…Ranbir’s first flick opposite real-life gf, Deepika…Ranbir Ranbir Ranbir…he’s what makes this film. Sid’s film is carried by the captain, Ranbir. Usually it’s the director who is the captain of the ship, but this time the director takes a back seat as captrain Ranbir carries this film on his shoulders from start to end. Ranbir proves that he is a natural. He’s a very talented kid…so for actors like Hrithik, Abhishek, Shahid etc…they should be aware…bachna ae heroes…Ranbir Aa Gaya. BUT…that doesn’t mean I adored this film. It’s just passable. I was very excited about this film…I had huge expectations…but as usual Yash Raj projects just ain’t up to the mark no more. The first half is entertaining, while the second half is like a whole different film. Most of the sub-plots seem very forced in the second half. Lamba’s character and storyline was the only one that came close to reality. Her track was full of emotions in the first half and then full of maturity during the second half. Minnisha was the stand-out from the heroines. She handles her emotional scenes very well and shared the best chemistry with Ranbir. When the film was being promoted…Deepika and Bipasha were mostly focussed on…but the underdog Miss Lamba clearly steals if from her fellow heroines. Bipasha’s track was a bit absurd and tacky. Bipasha’s entry post-interval just drags the film. She did a good job…but this isn’t something Bipasha can really sink her teeth into. She looked marvelleous…Especially in the scene where she is wearing the purple/white dress as Ranbir comes to Italy to meet her. Deepika’s track was hard to believe…her character was hard to believe…the camera loves her like my friend Diana said…she is stunning…from the heroines she looked the best. Every scene she leaves the guys with their mouths wide open…gorgeous. But, she needs to work on her dialogue delivery…you can totally tell that she is new to the industry…but with hard work and experience she has potential to make it big. This screenplay is not so killer…killer is the word that is used like 100 times in this film. The dialogues are cool…while the editing could of been better. The film is lengthy…it could of easily been trimmed by 15-20 minutes. The songs are all very well picturized. Ranbir’s dance moves in the punjabi track is just off the hook. Ahista Ahista is beautifully shot by Sid while Khuda Jaane will not let you blink even once. But the songs aren’t placed properly…the second half has too many songs…one after another and that slows down the storyline and the pace of the film. The supporting cast all do well in their roles…Hiten Patel is a big standout here…Paintal’s son is very talented…he had me cracking up many times. Kunal Kapoor’s special appearance was a delight to see…I don’t like Kunal…but he did very well here. Hard to believe, goofy and sometimes corny…that’s how I would describe the second half…the film is a letdown in its final reels as well…not that great of a climax…I wasn’t feeling it at all. But I gotta admit…Ranbir is one lucky fella…he got the oppurtunity to kiss all three ladies…and his lip-lock scene with Bipasha was very passionate. So overall…it’s watchable…but only once…Ranbir rules…Sid drools.

Kismat Konnection - My Review

Aziz Mirza…hmmm…not one of my favourites. But I do like Shahid. Here is one actor I used to practically hate back in the days. He wasn’t a steady actor, he looked like a 14 year old kid, and he just over-danced his way through films. But once Vivah came out and after seeing such a mature performance from this lad, I noticed that he has potential. And then came Jab We Met in which he blew me away. I really thought he was the show stealer of that movie. Now he comes back with a very experienced director who gave SRK many hits. Kismat Konnection is a light film focussed on love and business. It explores the business industry and how Aziz clearly protests that this industry revolves around profit, profit, profit. It’s all about gaining and losing, luck and chance, experience and confidence. Honestly, I don’t know anything about the business world…and trust me…I don’t even want to know. Many of the business oriented scenes between Shahid and Om were pritty much dragging and boring for me. But whenever Vidya and Shahid shared the screen…it was magic. These two actors feed off each other so well. The most shining scene of the whole film is when Shahid tells Vidya the truth towards the end. They both argue for like 5 minutes…the intensity, the chemistry, the bonding…they are spectacular. Some may say Vidya is trying to hard to look young, glamourous or sexy…but she isn’t. Vidya is naturally beautiful…period. She’s not trynna act sexy nor glamourous…her role doesn’t even require that. She fits right into her character and delivers. Just cause she’s wearing clothes that we don’t usually see her putting on doesnt mean shes trynna be someone she’s not. Many of my female friends have been saying that…so that’s why I wanted to point this out. As for Shahid…I already talked about him…I just think he keeps getting better with each film…he just keeps growing. Om Puri and Himani Shivpuri are ok. The dude who played Shahid’s buddy is annoying. Some of the comedic scenes between him and Shahid look very forced. Juhi is…I dunno…just odd n goofy. Boman Irani’s special appearance was nice. I love the relationship that his character shares with Vidya…it’s cute. The locals are brilliant. Whole film was shot in Toronto…it’s a beautiful city. The songs are just too good. Bakudha, Aai Pappi and Is this love are very well picturized songs. The editing could of been sharper. The first half goes by fast, but the second half the screenplay weakens and things seem to drag. This is just a simple, feel-good film…but even if the stroyline is simple I think the screenplay could have been stronger. Screenplay during second half is a huge letdown. It’s not anything special, like Jab We Met…it’s just an popcorn flick that you can enjoy with your partner. Watch this one for Shahid and Vidya’s fresh pair and great chemistry…sometimes you feel as if they are just meant for each other.

Mere Baap Pehle Aap - My Review

To be honest…I haven’t enjoyed many films this year…I kind of stayed away from many films…but this was one I had to see. I am a big fan of Khanna and a big fan of Priya…and when they both combine for a film…it’s magic. Hulchul and Hungama were both great entertainers in my opinion…as for MBPA it’s not far behind. It’s definetely an entertaining film that will make you laugh…and boy do you laugh loud…I know I did. The show stealer of the film…Mr OM PURI. This is Om at his finest. This is a role he gets to sink his teeth into. The versatile actor shows you he can out top anyone when it comes to comedy. This is not the same funny, loud, angry Om…this time he plays every indian milf’s nightmare…I mean it…his character is just halarious. You get to see him throughout the film and whenever he’s on screen you just can’t stop laughing. The dialogues are very funny. These days vulgar lines are being considered very funny…I’ve noticed that with bollywood comedy movies…but here there isn’t much vulgarity. This is just pure fun. This type of film clicks with everyone…age doesnt matter. Akshaye Khanna is a great shouter…he’s always shouting. As we all know hes the king of facial expressions…the man does well in his role. Genelia…this is probably the first time I seen her on screen…she is just too cute…very natural as well. I really liked her job…some may say she’s annoying…but I think she was just perfect. Paresh…this is just another feather in his cap…the man is brilliant once again. I love the scene where he starts prancing around the house like Dev Anand as he sings Phoolon Ke Rang Se Dil Ki Khallam Se. The actors click together in this film…and that’s whate makes things believable. Like the chemistry between Khanna/Rahul, Khanna/D’souza, Rahul/Puri…all shine. Priya handles the relationship between father and son very well here. He showed us a great father and son relationship in Virasat…here its totally different and unique where the son basically rules over the father and yells and punishes the father for wrong doings. It’s something new…that why it really stands out. The editing is just ok…the film does kind of drag on towards the end. At least 10 or 15 minutes of the film could easily been chopped off. Sometimes the pace of the film slows down when not needed and that irritates. Some songs are not well placed…though I have to admit I did like the songs in this film…I don’t care what others say. My favourite track was Jaana Hai Tujhko which I thought was picturized brilliantly in Kerala. Nasseerudhin’s act was good as well while Rajpal Yadav was wasted in my opinion. Rajpal is no where to be seen in the second half of the film. One thing we miss out on is the climax parody or chase that we always see in Priyadarshan’s movies. That’s one thing I got used to when watching Priya films…was kind of shocked not to see that in this film. Overall, very entertaining film. This is just good fun that you can watch with family. I laughed…I laughed loud.

Sarkar Raj - My Review

Wow…I haven’t seen a bollywood movie since like 2 months. I was really lucky to catch this one. When Ramu first announced that he was going to do a sequel to Sarkar…I was ok with that. Then when he announced that Ash was going to be part of it…I was like ok why not someone else, why her, just cause shes Abhi’s wife and Amitabh’s bahu. When the trailers came out…I wasn’t too excited…since it just reminded me of Sarkar. I even read the premises and everything looked very dull and boring in my view. Well, I gave it a chance even though I lost hope in Ramu. It actually turned out to be slightly better than the first. That’s what I feel. Many might disagree. The acting, the concept, the diaolgues, the editing and the cinematography all click. Just like Sarkar, Amitabh and Abhishek are both staring at the screen while Ramu is taking all these shots from close up range as the haunting background chants out “Govinda Govinda Govinda”. This sequel continues on from where it left off, so for people who didn’t view Sarkar, it would be kind of difficult to grasp right away. The film clearly belongs to Abhishek this time around. He carries the movie on his shoulders with the help from his father and wife until his character passes away…and from there the real Sarkar stands up and shows the world what he’s all about. Amitabh excells in his role as Subhash Nagre. Though his role really picks up towards the end that doesnt not mean he doesn’t shine. He shines in every scene he’s in. Ash’s character was kind of loose in my opinion. Don’t misinterpret me please lol. I thought her character wasn’t that well developed, as per her background, and the whole romantic angle with a married man kind of seems out of place. Though she does amaze you in a few sequences, for example the hospital scene. Overall, this isn’t her finest performance, this just a good performance. If her character was stronger, she’d do way better. As as I said before, I think Abhishek really shined in this film. Was a bit suprised to see Shankar’s character eliminated though. Ramu knows how to handle seriousness. He’s not playing around when it means time to get down to being serious and nothing else. All of his characters have this serious look on their faces throughout the film. A look that basically says…step to me and I’ll kill you or hurt you. Ramu is technically a brilliant director and he excells in this genre of polotics, crime, the underworld or whatever you wanna call it. The camera angles, cinematography and editing has Ramu’s stamp all over it. And as usual in Ramu films the supporting cast also deliver. Govind Namdeo was excellent. Sayaji in my opinion was hamming in every scene. Tanisha did very well in her small role. The rest of the cast added to the film in a positive way. The twists in the film are handled very well because Ramu makes them believable. You won’t be like hey wait…that doesn’t make sense at all…or hey how can that be…everything comes in place during the end. The film perfectly sets you up for a third Sarkar…maybe this time we will get to see a new lead as Chikku (Visnhu’s son). Another thing I really liked about the film was the way Vishnu’s character was still brought up in this part. Whenever father and son get together to talk about Vishnu…its really gripping. The hospital scene with Abhishek, Amitabh and Ash is the most brilliant scene in the film. Overall very good film…so far one the year’s finest alongside Jodha Akbhar. Though it has a few flaws here and there, Ramu still manages to grip the viewer with some real shining scenes…and the chemistry between father and son can never go wrong.

The Dark Knight - My Review

Riveting, Vicious, Ruthless, Dark, Scary, Frightening, Unimaginable, Exceptional, Mind-Boggling, Mind-Blowing, Out-Of-This-World…these are some of the words that describe Heath Ledger performance as the psychopathic “joker”. The tone he uses throughout the film gives chills up your spine. The scary laugh he showcases throughout the film gives you goosebumps. From his body-language to his unforgettable look, from the way Christopher Nolan presents the character to the way Heath plays this character is just perfect. When leaving the cinema I was very happy. All the buzz about Heath’s magnificent performance was appropriate. The high expectations that people had from him were met. But once I entered my car, I realized that this precious actor of ours in no more and it saddens me to see such a talent leave this world at a very young age. If this man was here today there would of been a huge line of directors and producers at his door this very moment. Whenever Heath is on screen it menacing. He brings so much power and charisma into this character that he makes Jack Nicholson look really bad. I have a lot of respect for you Jack, but you just got owned. I can go on and on about Heath’s act, but I will stop for now ending it off by saying the man deserves the best supporting actor award. Aaron Eckhart, who I had my doubt’s about, delivers an astonishing performance. His transition from Harvey Dent to Two-Face is very well handled by Nolan. Christian Bale is basically playing two characters, Batman and Bruce. He excells in both. Everything about Batman is cool. The new batsuit, the new vehicles, the new weapons and the new gadgets are all worth praising. Michael Caine has shorter role here compared to the Batman Begins. His character adds the light moments in this very serious and intense crime epic. Morgan Freeman has a bigger role here compared to the Batman Begins. Morgan is as usual sauve, slick and witty. Maggie Gyllenhaal fits the bill as Rachel Dawes. She is more convincing than Katie Holmes. As for Gary Oldman, he’s brilliant. James Gordan’s character is given much more importance in this film than the first. So far I am just talking about how good everyone was in their respected roles, what about the director? Well the way Nolan handles this film is just unbelievable. He know his craft, he is technically brilliant. Nolan has given us one of the most darkest crime drama’s ever. And that is not an easy thing to do when your handling comic book characters. Even in this unheard city which has heroes and villains with masks on, Nolan honestly potrays everything with a pinch of realism. The character development is worth praising. Every character grows in this film. The battle that Batman is going through, the growth of the Joker as Gotham City’s most feared criminal, the transition of Harvey Dent to Two-Face, the burden of responsibilites placed on Gordan’s shoulders are all magnificently potrayed in this film. The action scenes will leave you breathless. The sequences with vehicles and explosions will have you on the edge of your seat. The 10 minute battle between the Joker and Batman at mid point of the film is going to go down in history as one of the best action sequences. Christopher and his brother Jonathan have teamed up to give us one great screenplay. There is not one boring scene in this film. I didn’t even have any problem with the length of this film. Those two-and-half hours flew by fast. The cinematography is beautiful, while the editing is crisp. Technically the film takes Hollywood to another level. This film has it all. Nolan concentrates on each and every character very carefully. The film will make you think, this is just not some popcorn flick. There are hidden meanings behind each situation and incident. The background music is creepy. And I mean that in a positive way. Whenever the Joker is about to enter a scene this creepy, eeire instrumental comes on. That insturmental piece will make your heart thump fast and loud. The only small problem I have with this film was that the scarecrow got wasted. Actually he wasn’t even needed in this film to be honest. Back to Nolan, the man has given us a very dark, gritty, real, honest picture here. Something that will go down in comic book history. This film is an epic. One of the best films I have seen this year, no two doubts about that. Therefore, I highly reccommend people to catch this one in the theatres. Even if your not a Batman fan, this film will still appeal to cinema lovers.

God Bless Your Soul Heath, We Will Never Forget You.

Wanted - My Review

I seen this film a week ago…I cant belive I didnt review it…slipped my mind. That does not mean it’s an awful movie. Nor is it forgettable. It’s a film that will have you on the edge of your seat most of the time. Yes, the first 15 minutes is a big drag, but once Angelina enters the film with her beautiful smile and once Morgan makes his entry with his sauve dialogue delivery you are hooked. I’m not a big fan of these types of movies. Movies that are based on special affects, high speed car chases, machine guns going off, people getting killed left, right and centre. I always wonder when all this is happening, where the hell are the damn COPS to bust them…it’s like a bollywood movie…so much happens in brod daylight yet no one ever gets caught. But individuals have to understand that this film falls under the genre where logic does not apply. In this film, the characters are driving around in ferraris and crashing them like no tomorrow, characters are having sex in offices, characters are trying to curve bullets, characters are jumping on trains, characters are surviving after being in a train that fell down a mountain…it’s insane…yet FUN. It’s like a fun roller coaster ride with many twists and turns. There are many twists and turns in this film that are very unexpected. For example, Morgan Freeman’s character takes a complete turn towards the final reels. You don’t really get to know who he really is or what he really wants until the end. The character development in this film is what makes a big impact. Screenplay is good, not great, but it’s gripping. The special affects are amazing. Usually Im against special affects but in this movie its taken to a higher level. The train sequence in which James character tries to execute the person who is trying to kill him is beyond this world. That one particular scene makes the film worth watching. My favourite scene was when Angelina steps out of the water and we all can see her tattooed back and amazing booty…call me a PERV…I don’t care. She is just ravashing. Once she comes on screen and gives you that smile…your heart melts. She isnt in the film just to look good…she has a good role…and plays her part well. Morgan is ultra-cool. He fits any character. The man is very versatile and one of the best actors Hollywood has at the moment. James McAvoy in my opinion has got recognized after Last King of Scotland, in which I think he gave an amazing performance. I never knew who he was until I saw that film. He fits his role to the T…splendid job. Im yet to see his work in Attonement. Everyone else in the film play their part’s well. The finale full of gory, violent action is a treat as well…I think action lovers will love it. While Im praising this film like crazy, there are some cons. Like I said the first 15 mintues will tire you. I think the film could of been edited better too. Cutting off 10 to 15 minutes would of worked to the advantage of the film. I think the dialogue could have been way better. Morgan usually had the best lines…I loved it when he said Shoot Tha Mothafucka…you don’t expect Morgan to say something like that aye hahahahah. Overall, it’s a good summer flick…I dont think it will be the best summer flick since The Dark Knight is around the corner. If you love special affects and great action sequences with a few shocking suprises…you will enjoy this flick.

Singh is King - Music Review

Pritam…wohooo…he’s here again with another big album for a big movie. I’m down with Pritam’s track, even though they might be copied or borrowed or stolen…I’m down with that. The biggest suprise here is that D O DOUBLE G is in the houseeeeeeeee. I never liked Snoop to be honest…yes I love some of his tracks with Dr. Dre and Pharell but other than that I never seen him as a great rapper or anything. His style is just lame now…well let’s see what he can do in a bollywood track.

Singh is Kingh - Snoop starts it off just like he starts all of his rap songs off…nothing special…same lics, same flow, same slang…the man is high off the ground when rapping…I dont even know if I can call this rap…Pritam’s borrowed arrangements are weak…we heard many of these tunes here n there…this song is all over the map…there ain’t not steady flow to it…except for the chrous…which I find very corny…this isn’t a song the POONJABIS should be proud of…Im pun I ain’t proud of it.

Jee Karda - This song is what Pritam is all about…those hip-hop beats, those background girls and boys kickin angresi lines, and then a punjabi man on the mic ripping shit up. I LIKE IT. Labh Juan Ja does a wicked job…now this a pure hip-hop poonjabi song here with some rajhastani elements. This is a song that will get the ladies to shake some booty on the dance floor…good track.

Bas Ek King - Wow so many singers, Neeraj, Mika, Hard Kaur (HATE HER) and Ashish Pandit…brown ppl trynna rap is veryyyyyyy annoying…especially when they put on this hardcore gangster image…Imma gangster…F these ppl…man this is a trip lol. This is sord of like the first track…I kind of enjoyed this one more than the Snoop version…though I wouldn’t call this a chart buster track…but I guess it will go on to be one. Hard Kaur is damnnnnnnn annoying in this song man…someone shoot her plz.

Bachna Ae Haseeno - Music Review

Hey, I’m back at it again. This time around reviewing the music of Bachna Ae Haseeno. I was looking forward to this album since Vishal-Shekhar kept stating in their interviews that this was turning out to be a rocking album. So let’s see if they live up to their word…because lately with De Taali and Bhootnath being their latest albums I think they are not living up to the expectations.

Khuda Jaane - Today morning when I woke up I seen the promo of this song on television. Instantly I was hooked. It’s has a nice, soft, mellow tune until the chorus hits and we get Vishal Shekhar’s every so popular rock/metal beats. It’s a love song with KK and Shilpa Rao giving their vocals. KK really does well here. Lately he’s been up and down in my opinion, but with this song he totally redeems himself. Shilpa Rao who is usually used by SEL works well with Vishal Shekhar as well. Her voice is different from Sunidhi and Shreya that’s why she sounds so fresh. Anvita Dutt Guptan has given the lyrics…who is she??? Well whomever she is…she’s done a splendid job. Nice track to open the album with. Lovely arrangements by VS here.

Lucky Boy - Damn right Ranbir is a lucky boy…he gets to romance Bipasha, Minisha and Deepika in one damn movie. Oh well to the song now…this song must be picturized on Bipasha for sure…Sunidhi lends her voice to the album…it’s the typical Yashraj track…sord of on the lines of Lazy Lamhe, Chaalia or Sexy Lady…this is not my type of track to be honest…therefore I did not enjoy it at all…but I can definetely see the youngsters rocking their heads to this track. Oh yah Hard Kaur (who I hate) is somewhere in the song too…I couldn’t catch her part…I consider myself very lucky.

Aahista Aahista - When I seen the name beside the song…LUCKY ALI…I jumped up. Lucky Ali back in the game after such a long time…where has this man been…I adore his voice. This song instantly reminds me of Fanaa and Anjana Anjani from Yuva. It has a club/disco type of beat to the song with Ali’s amazing voice-over. Shreya does a fine job as well. I love the way Vishal Shekhar blends Ali and Shreya’s voice together in this track…the lyrics are decent…not a bad track at all.

Kismat Konnection - Music Review

Aai Paapi hahahahaha…omg.

I was awaiting this soundtrack…after Pritam’s composition in Jab We Met and Race I had my heart set on this album…even before the music promos I had this gut feeling that this album will be rocking. Well lets get right to it:

Aai Paapi - Strange title for a song nah…dont let the title get to you…this song is going to be year’s biggest track…the youngsters will go crazy over this one…chart-buster for sure…Neeraj Shridhar excells with his cool and hip voice…the lyrics by Shabbir are catchy…anyone can sing along with Neeraj…Pritam amazes you here. And the picturization of this song is good too…at the end of the yr this song will still be playing in my car…100% sure.

Bakudha Tumhi Ho - Aatif is back…this man has been delivering hit after hit…as we all know his teaming with Pritam is really good…in this track he shines again…the lyrics are great…its the lyrics that make this song strong…The flutes and guitar sounds are easy on the ear…this song does not surpass “pehli nazar” but it’s still a wonderful track that we can listen to over and over again…Alka comes into the song at the mid-point…great to see singers like Alka and Udit back in the game.

Move Your Body - Hard Kaur should be named Lame Kaur…I seriously hate this lady…her voice is damn annoying…many out there are probably down with her…but not me man…Shaan doesn’t sound like Shaan here…Akriti does a fine job…I just can’t feel this song at all…the chorus is very weak…and lyrics are alrite…there are some clever lyrics and fancy arrangements in here but at the end of the day its the same old hip hop bollywood track.

Kismet Konnection - Title Song Promo

http://www.indiafm.com/broadband/video/Movie-Promos/8i6YUH74/3/Title-Song-Kismat-Konnection.html

Damn man…Pritam the copy cat is back with a chart busting song…he copies but damn man those songs are so freakin catchy…this is another great composition…and its picturized well too…Shahid and Vidya’s pair looks fresh indeed and in this song Shahid and showing his usual over energetic dance moves…he’s cool and calm…very well choreographed song….check it out.

Jimmy - My Review

This might be my oddest review ever…I can sense it already. From the first day we all knew this film will be a disaster. Everyone knew it’s going to be a b-grade film that will be a washout at the box office. Everything was against this film. Firstly, the film was being made by a director who has failed miserably in the 90’s. I don’t even remember Raj N Sippy’s last hit. Secondly this film has been in the making for a long time, it’s looks out dated. Thirdly, there aren’t many big names associated with this film. I can go and on about the cons. The captain of the ship, Mr. Sippy, is still stuck in the 80’s/90’s phase. The film is masala entertainer that fails because for the veiwers today this is not what they define as great entertainment. Sippy fails miserably and takes down Mimoh with him. I don’t know how important it is for a newcomer to have a hit off the start. For example, Amisha Patel had a few big hits off the start but now she’s just forgettable. A recent example is Ranbir…who’s Saawariya failed at the box office but is getting offers left, right and center. This film is a turnoff for Mimoh…I hope that people don’t place this youngster into the B or C grade films and say go baccha go act. Even knowing that this film is going to turn out bad I still had hope, I was rooting and cheering for Mithunda’s son. So where do I start. Looks wise Mimoh needs to work really hard. The blond long hair just ain’t him…it looks terrible. He needs a hair-cut fast…a trim would be fine as well. Mimoh also needs to shed some pounds and I heard he has thanks to Sunil Shetty. In some portions it show’s how unexperienced Mimoh is in the film. But in other portions it shows how confident he is. There are scenes in which he excells. For example his scene with the heroine’s father in which the father tries to offer money to Mimoh. I think he controls his emotional scenes very well. He needs to work very hard on his comedic scenes…I think he was trying too hard to make the viewer laugh in the light scenes. In the intense, serious scenes he does well too. His body language, his voice texture and his facial expressions need to be worked on. With time and experience I think all this will change and he will come out victorious. If he works hard on everything he needs to work on I am 100% sure he will show improvement. Final verdict: I think he has potential. As for dancing…after a long time I seen a guy move like he does. Hrithik is good…he’s great…he’s a star…whatever…I think his moves are very repititive. Yes Hrithik is flexible, but I don’t even think he’s a better dance than Govinda. Mimoh brings a Lil Michael Jackson, a lil Govinda, a lil Mithun and rips the screen apart whenever he gets the opportunity to dance. The movie has way too many songs…the only ones that stand out are the ones where Mimoh dances in. Marhaba took 20 days to shoot…and it shows how much Mimoh worked on his dance steps to that song…he’s impressive. I seen clipse of Harman…and he’s totally trying to copy Hrithik’s style of dancing. I give propz to Mimoh, who is a big Hrithik fan but yet he’s not trying to imitate him at all when it comes to dancing. The action scenes are totally fromt he 90’s era…suprisingly there is a lot of blood hahahaha. The climax and pre climax action scenes are not well choreographed. The editing is very poor. Sometimes you wonder how a character gets from one site to another all of a sudden. From a jungle Mimoh gets to a manshion before your eyes blink. The twists and turns in the first half are ok. Yes at first you wonder who’s behind the murder mystery but as the movie moves on you can easily guess the killer. Rahul Dev does a decent job. Not much scope for him to act though. As for Shakti…he’s actually alrite hahahaha. Zulfi Sayed sucks. The way he handles his important scenes in the end is just totally foolish. He overracts. The heroine needs to work harder than Mimoh…she stood out in only one emotional scene…other than that she’s forgettable. The dialgues are just too phony here…especially in the climax. There are some odd scenes that stand out like a sore thumb…less said the better. I kind of feel bad for Mimoh that he got launched this way. If handled by a better director his performance could have been way better. Yes some say that he sounds gay…his voice is awful…but look where Saif got with his goofy voice. I think no one can completely change their voice around…so I guess we all have to juss get used to it just like we did for Saif. Overall, watch it only for Mimoh’s dance moves.

Bhootnath - My Review

Wasn’t expecting much, didn’t care, never wanted to see it…but how can I skip an Amitabh movie??? As days go by I am skipping many of the new releases…those B-grade Dino thrillers, or those C-grade films that star unkown heroines in bikinis and unknown heroes with their shirts off trying to act as if their a SRK or a Salman Khan. I didn’t even watch Krazzy 4 after hearing how shitty the film is. Well I am happy I seen Bhootnath. This is an entertaining film that I think will go down well with the family audiences. I know it performed poorly at the Box Office but this is something many little kids would love to own on DVD. I can so see my little cousins appreciating this film. First-time director Vivek Sharma does a decent job. The screenplay is very weak in the starting of the film but it picks up a little bit before intermission and keeps strong until the final frame. The music from Vishal Shekhar in my opinion wasn’t all that good here. Though the songs are well placed, there isn’t even one that I can remember now. Music is forgettable. The editing and cinematography are decent. The special affects really surprised me here. I thought it would turn out to be very cheesy and corny…it actually doesnt stick out as a sore thumb. Every sequence that involves those computerized special affects were a delight to watch. Yes the film has its flaws. Some things are very hard to believe…but then again I think it’s a film targeted for the minors so who cares. This isn’t know Taare Zameen Par and it’s not even trying to be a TZP. This ain’t a film that will make you think…you’ll just be glued to your seat. Why? Most of the credit goes to Amitabh. Amitabh is capable of turning decent and ordinary into good. Let’s be real…can you see any other person in this role instead of him? No. No one can fit the bill here…he’s the one…the only one. His performance rocks. Aman Siddiqui does very well. He’s a real cute kid…hope to see more of him in the future. Juhi is kind of annoying during the starting of the film with her giggling but as the movie moves ahead she gets better. SRK is in the film for 15 minutes. He stands out in a few scenes other than that…WHATEVER. Priyanshu should quit. Satish Shah’s character is not funny at all. I thought his sequences were very corny. Rajpal Yadav provides a few laughs here and there. The whole Rajpal-Juhi-Amitabh sequence was just a riot. So yes, the film is not a gem, nor something out of this world, nor does it deliver a hearty message…it’s just an entertainer. I actually prefer this over Baabul…which I thought was a BIG BORE.

Taare Zameen Par - My Review

I know I’m so late. Half way through 2008 and finally I got the chance to watch Taare Zameen Par. Well where to begin. With this film a new star is born, a new director is born, a lesson for the parents out there is born. The film is a touching piece that will be considered a classic. It’s a gem that won’t be forgotten. I don’t know how many times I can revisit this film an year but it’s something that every parent should watch. Watching this film will make you understand that every child is special, that there are people out there with hidden talents that just need to be tapped on. Some of us are lucky that we recognize our own talents, but there are many out there that don’t know or aren’t aware of their hidden talents. Sometimes you need others to recognize and bring out those talents…that certain person can be your mom, your dad, your teacher, your friend, anyone I guess. After watching this film, I wish I had a teacher like Aamir Khan who was so involved and concerned about his student’s. You know as they say everyone comes across one teacher that they really relate to. A teacher that is always there for you, one that can help you across the way. I never encountered a teacher like that in the 15 years of studying I been through…SAD. Oh well, here is a film even little children can learn off of. It gives out a message that if your a failure when it comes to many things that does not mean your a failure in everything. There is something you have that you can excell in, there is something special about you. Aamir gets his point across beautifully. Yes, his characters are just amazing in this film. Who would not want to enact the role of “Ram”? This is a role everyone can relate to. Everyone will fall in love with Aamir’s character from the first frame. As for his performance, does Aamir ever fail? No. I don’t know if he won any awards, but he deserved every single supporting actor award there is. Darsheel is little star that will grow up to be one of the bests. So much talent at such a small age. This is one of the best child artist performances ever. The way he controls his emotional scenes is just amazing. As for Tisca Chopra, she does very well. I don’t think she deserved the best supporting actress award, but that doesn’t take anything away from her performance…she was very good. Yes, there are a lot of melodramatic rhona dhona scenes…but who cares…when you have actors like Aamir, Tisca Chopra and Darsheel performing everything looks so damn real. Kahaan Chand Mein Daag Dhundoo…in this picture where do I find those flaws. Well, the only thing that I question myself when watching this film was where did the Jabeena character come from. Who was she? Was she Aamir’s gf, wife or co-worker…it wasn’t pointed out in the film. The songs sounded better to me in the film than the first time I heard them. The Maa song was picturized very well. Whenever it plays in the background, I bet every viewer out there got moist-eyed. The title track is another standout. Every song was magnificently picturized by Aamir. His camera-work was great as well. Who ever thought Aamir would be this talented when it comes to directing. Cinematography and editing were perfect. The second half in my opinion was longer than the first, but no complaint’s. It’s a well paced fill that entertains through it’s message and teachings. Without being preachy, Aamir gets his point across with very impressive dialogues. Hats off to the diaologue writer for this film. The scene where Aamir visits Darsheel’s parents is worth mentioning. Another scene which I really loved was the scene where Darsheel’s dad sarcastically lies to his son that he is leaving the house and little Darsheel gets scared since he thinks its his fault. That one scene should be applauded for Darsheel’s acting. The climax was very touching. Loved the paintings, the cute comedy sequences, the whole atmosphere was amazing. Amol Gupte who gave the story and screenplay for the film deserves praise as well. The screenplay is very strong and this is what makes Aamir’s work a bit easier. Aamir is a very detailed director…the smallest things the characters do in scenes tell a lot about that character. For example, when Aamir is shown walking in the middle of the street and he picks up a cabbage and it puts it back onto the stand, or when he is shown helping out a unknown lady change her child’s diaper…these small things show how caring and helpful Ram’s character is. For me these small things make a big impact. Goes out to show how much involved the director is with his film. I bow down to Mr. Khan. Overall, best movie of 2007…wow Filmfare got it right this time around lol.

Love Story 2050 - Music Review

Hey guys, I’m back to torture you all with one of my music reviews again lol. This time around Anu Malik is on the block. This man just faded. He did compose some splendid albums in the 90’s. His last decent album in opinion was Umrao Jaan in my opinion. We all still remember his songs Kaho Na Kaho and Bheegey Hont from Murder…I guess those are the two songs that Anu Malik will be remembered for this decade…well so far. Hopefully he gives us some amazing songs to remember down the line with this album. So let’s get to it:

Aa Gaya Hun Mein - Anu kicks the album off on a weak note. This is just not the song to start off with. Very weak track. I listened to it many times trying to get used to it…but didn’t work. KK is ok here…nothing great. It’s a song that could be easily skipped. The lyrics are ok from Javed Saab here and the angresi crap that they throw in the middle of the song makes you yawn. Can you believe it…first track is a skip…WOW.

Jaane Kaisi Hai Teri Meri Yeh Love Story - Wow big title for a song…well the happy version is alright. More like above average. Lyrics are good. And Shaan’s voice lifts the song. It’s Anu’s tunes that aren’t that catchy here. The saxaphone in the background sounds nice though. Now coming to the sad version, Anu uses the violins and piana to slow the song down. Shaan slows down as well. Just listen to the way Shaan sings these two versions. He’s the show stealer behind these two compositions.

Lover Boy Will You - Man the title just threw me off…wtf aye…oh well the songs starts off as some robotic, electonica number then it switches into this 80’s disco type of song. Alisha Chinnoy sings the song. It’s always a delight to hear her. She’s impressive in these type of songs. Anu really works well with the tunes and arrangements here…it clearly shows…but the lyrics, those angresi words are a big throwoff man. Suprisingly, this time Anu shines and gives a futuristic feeling with this song. Can’t wait to see Priyanka shake that thang.

Chhalia - My Review

People out there that haven’t appreciated Saawariya I suggest these people to watch Chhalia. Saawariya’s stroyline wasn’t anything new. It seemed like Bhansali borrowed a lot from Manmohan Desai’s Chhalia. Ranbir’s character Ranbir Raj is very similar to Raj Kapoor’s character named Chhalia. Only difference was that Ranbir’s character wasn’t a fraud like Raj Kapoor’s. Even Sonam Kapoor’s character Sakina is similar To Nutan’s Shanti. You just have to watch the film to notice all these aspects. I don’t want to reveal too much of the story-line. There are many shades to this film unlike Saawariya. There are a lot of side plots and alot of irony and symbolism used here. Desai who gave us entertainers like Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie, Naseeb, Dharam Veer, Roti etc. Desai was fairly a new director when he made this film. He didn’t seem like a director that grew with each movie or anything. Basically, what I’m saying is that he had the god given talent cause it shows in Chhalia. He was born talented. The way he picturizes this film and how he uses the songs in the film to progress the storyline is just amazing. In black and white movies, the songs always carried messages and sometimes hidden messages. Therefore, for the viewer it is very important to listen and understand each lyric the song contains. Even in this film, every song has messages which are very key to the main plots and issues the characters go through. And damn…do those songs stick to your mind and touch your heart. Mere Toote Hue Dil Se, Koi To Aaj Pooche, Ke Tera Haal Kya Hai is so heart-melting. Not to forget Teri Raahon Mein Kadhi and Chhalia Mera Naam which were very well placed songs. And how can anyone not remember Dum Dum Digga Digga lol. It’s one my all time favourites. The camera-work for this particular song is worth praising. The young Desai really seemed like he knew what he was doing. He knew that this script had many plots but he handled the pace of the film very well. He didn’t cram everything all together and puzzle the viewer. Everything was slick and was moving at a proper pace. The screenplay was very strong though some character’s weren’t that developed. Pran’s character was very hard to understand. I don’t think his character was well-developed. For example, his beef with Raj Kapoor’s character wasn’t well layed out. But the fight sequence between the two were very intense and honestly it looked 100 times better than the 3D, computerized, special affects type of action scenes we see today…SERIOUSLY. Just like Saawariya sometimes it was difficult to relate with the heroine’s character. There were some decisions that Shanti’s character took in this film that would make the viewer think twice. Why did she choose to do that or why the hell would any mother or wife go on and make that move??? Stuff like that. Now coming to the performances, Raj Kapoor rocks. This is my second favourite Raj Kapoor performance (First being Jagte Raho obviously). Raj Kapoor as we all know is a stylish actor. He carries his mannerisms, his body language and his style of dialogue delivery from one movie to another. I think that’s the reason why some people don’t judge him as one of the best performers. I won’t complain. Some actors change themselves (looks wise, diction wise, mannerism wise) to get into a role and then own that role…Raj Kapoor didn’t change himself yet he still owned those characters he played. He brung his style and captured our minds and hearts forever. That’s why we call him the SHOWMAN. He entertains throughout this film in his style and his ways. Nutan was a natural from day one. Another gifted performer. She perfoms with so much eaze. She handles her emotional scenes very well. Even though her character was kind of hard to relate to here and there she still manages to give an uplifting performance. As for Rehman he does well in his role. Pran is decent here. His character in the film was important but sadly not well developed. Child artist Bupet Raja is cute. Overall, this isn’t a classic or a gem. It’s an entertaining film that people can watch at least once an year. It shows you how great cinema used to be. High on drama and emotion, heroine crying every second scene, intense knife fighting sequences, songs every 15 minutes that carry important messages, heart’s being broken all the time, anaath bacchey on the streets crying, husband rejecting wife, wife acting as if husband is GOD, heroine covering her face with her saari when seeing a paraya mard, hero telling heroine that he will bring the moon and stars for her, lead actors going to the mandir to ask god for this or that and characters reuniting in the end…now that’s what Black and White Cinema was all about…and that’s what Chhalia is all about.

Cannes, May 19: The English-language version of Gandhi, My Father, a film based on the Mahatma’s relations with his son, is all set for release in the US as part of a strategic deal between Indian entertainment major Eros International and Hollywood’s Lionsgate studio.
The film was produced by Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, who is currently in Cannes to attend a press event in connection with the formal announcement of the Eros-Lionsgate deal.

“I am really happy that the film is going into mainstream distribution in North America at last,” said Kapoor, who is on his first-ever trip to the Cannes Film Festival.

“I’ve been walking around the film market for two days and can sense the buzz. This festival sets your mind ticking,” he said.

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic - Music Review

WTF is going on man…all these new albums all coming out at once…I got too much free time on my hands these days…listening to all the albums and reviewing them like no tomorrow. I love music…I don’t know if I know much about music…but I always have an opinion to each and every song. This time around SEL provides the music for an Yashraj Film. Kunal Kohli went with Jatin-Lalit last time…since the duo is not longer a duo I guess he went for a three-o. I love SEL tracks…Jhoom Barabar Jhoom was a riot…I loved all the songs. Taare Zameen Par at first didn’t sound great but after hearing those songs over and over again I had no choice but to get used to them. Till today I think “Maa” is one of their finest compositions ever. This time around the team is composing for another film that revolves around children. So let’s see how they do:

Pyar Ke Liye - Shankar…Shankar…Shankar…does this dude sing for other composers..NO right…well the breathless man is featured on the first track and he is marvelleous. I love this song. It’s something that clicks right away. Beautiful lyrics…how come whenever SEL compose they always get to work with the best lyrics. Everyone will love this song…the guitars and the piano tunes are magical. This can turn out to be one of my favourites from the current lot of songs.

Nihaal Ho Gayi - Shankar is back in full effect…this isn’t a slow, light song like the first…it’s more of a fast paced dance number. As usual Prashoon gives the right lyrics…but overall I’m not a fan of this track…sometimes what I dislike about SEL is that their music, tunes, beats all get too loud and rise over the singer’s voice. Hard for me to explain…but this isn’t the song for me.

Bulbula - Shankar again…hmmm…this is a childish/kiddish song that was expected in this album. It’s an upbeat number in which Sunidhi shines. I can’t get enough of her voice…She will always be me favourite. I have never disliked her voice…she get’s picked very wisely by the music directors. This is not an item number type of song which Sunidhi usually does…she shows her lighter side here. The chorus is nice. Overall…good song.

Jaane Na Jaane Tu - Music Review

Ar Rahman again…I’m gonna go crazy…Rahman is everywhere all of a sudden. Usually this man does a one or two albums an year…but he’s loaded with compositions this year. So let’s get started guys.

Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi - The first song of this album is very good indeed. Sounds like a chart-buster. I liked the song from the get-go. Soft hip ho beats mixed in with Rashid’s voice. I think Adnam Sami would of done a better job handling this song. This is his type of song. As you can see Rashid does try to imitate Sami throughout the song. First song is definetely catchy.

Pappu Can’t Dance - I seen the trailer for this song…I did not like it. It’s an expirimental track indeed. Something really different. I don’t think we’ve heard anything like this. I love the first part to the song…Thirikit Tannna Thirikit Thanna Let’s Dance lol. I think the lyrics are pritty goofy here…overall it’s on ok song. I enjoyed the song more while just listening to it on my own…but when watching the trailer and looking at youngsters jumping around like monkey’s I did not like it at all lol.

Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Female) - This is song is more of a serious track than the other two that we came across. The lyrics are getting better and the singer Runa Rizmi leaves an impact. Not the best song in the album but not the worst either. Another ok song from Rahman.
