There are good films, there are bad films and there are Salman films. This is the word box office trade uses and in one breath. Salman Khan is having the best phase of his career and what else it is a significant one. This chocolate boy of 90s who re-wrote box office history with numerous box office mega hits at that time is right now having a even better phase then that time. Salman was down and dusted in early 2000. Trade pundit wrote him off. With court cases and troubled love life, this enigmatic Khan was almost dead. But as faith says he rose like a phoenix from the ashes and now is breaking box office records and setting new standards. Let’s see how he fared in last 3-4 years. He had 6 significant release from 2010 till present.Salman Khan recent movies (2010-2013) and how they fared at the Box Office India Market -
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar may have ridiculed Prabhakar Deshmukh, the farmer from Solapur district who had been protesting for two months asking the state government to release water into the Ujani Dam, but the Bombay High Court seems to have agreed with him.
While hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) yesterday, the court ordered the Maharashtra government to release water into the dam within 24 hours. The dam supplies water to Solapur, one of the worst drought-hit districts in the western region of the state.
At a rally last week, Mr Pawar dismissed the farmer’s two-month-long protest and sarcastically asked if leaders should urinate to supply water to the dam. “There is this person from Solapur, sitting on hunger strike for 64 days demanding water be released from the dam. But where are we going to get water from? Should we urinate? And when we don’t have water to drink, it’s hard to pass urine as well,” he said.
After facing severe criticism for his crass remarks, the politician said it was the “biggest mistake of my political life.” (more…)

First quarter of 2013 for bollywood has been extremely low point in recent years. Unlike earlier recent years many biggies are released in the first quarter of 2013 and most of them bite the dust in the process. What is more astonishing that no film went to become major hit such as Super Hit or Blockbuster in this time period. Only 5 films saved performed reasonably well in this time frame.
Race 2 is the saving garce of 2013 till now and went to register the first big hit in 2013. It is the only film to cross 100 crore nett mark in 2013. Few in trade suggested that in few places distributor and sub-distributor who brought the rights for high price have entitled losses from the film. Kai Po Che, ABCD and Jolly LLB are the surprise Hit of the year with literally everyone involved with the film made good profits. Special 26 another big release of the year just managed to attain Semi Hit status at the box office.
But the biggest disappointment of the year is Himmatwala without a doubt. Before release film was certain to cross 100 crore nett barrier as per trade. Even the director of the film Sajid Khan was touting it as next 150 crore film. But all claim of him fallen flat and film is struggling now to touch 50 crore nett in its lifetime. If the film fails to cross 50-55 crore nett mark in its lifetime it can easily be said biggest disaster of the year, forget about flop status. Below are the verdicts of some major bollywood films released in the first quarter of 2013.

Box Office battle this Eid is hotting up with each passing day. When makers of Chennai Express asked theater owners for bulk booking of screens for Chennai Express for Eid with Himmatwala, at that moment it was clear that Shahrukh Khan starrer Chennai Express is releasing this Eid. But Ekta Kapoor made it clear that there much awaited next Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Again is also coming on Eid as they have officially locked the date much ahead and their film has protagonists who are muslims and thus Eid release is an apt time.
With this distributor and exhibitors have no choice left but to adjust screens for both the films. There is no doubt that with wide screen release there is enough space for to two big films to survive. But main problem is that then both films have to depend on the content also, as it is like ‘survival of the fittest’ in the market.
But breaking news is coming is that a large section of exhibitors are now hooting for Shahrukh Khan project for Eid. They are saying that they are eagerly waiting for Chennai Express starring SRK and Deepika Padukone. It is festive time and audiences want entertainment. Few exhibitors who were lucky to see the first look of CE in Wai, Maharashtra, are going gung ho for the film and wants CE to be released in Eid itself. They don’t mind whether OUATIMA is releasing in Eid or not. With confidence from exhibitors for CE, SRK is definitely one up from Akshay Kumar starrer right now. Now it is to be seen what makers of OUATIMA do to get the coveted slot of Eid.

Nikhil Advani is all set to make his foray into Marathi films with LOKMANYA, a Marathi full length feature film, to be directed by first time director Om Raut. As is evident the film is based on the life of the great freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The script has been extensively researched and received direct validation from Dr. Deepak Tilak, Vice-Chancellor of the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. He is also the great grandson of Lokmanya himself and an expert on Lokanya’s fundamentals and visions. What makes this collaboration even more special is that Om Raut is being mentored directly by his producer Nikhil Advani.
Says Nikhil Advani “LOKMANYA is a film that aspires to bring to the foreground one of our nation’s greatest leaders whose teachings and ways make for relevant inspiration even today. This is what appealed to me most, when Om brought the project to my production company. In addition, as we celebrate 100 years of cinema in our country, the genesis of this is incomplete without acknowledging the contribution of Marathi artists, cinema visionaries. For us as a company, we believe bringing Marathi cinema closer into the fold of Bollywood will only create better value for us as an industry and of course for our audiences.”
Says Om Raut, “I knew I was developing something very special when I started working on the script of LOKMANYA. What has raised the bar for me is the opportunity to work closely with Nikhil. He has empowered my vision without compromising my individuality as a budding film-maker.
LOKMANYA starts filming on May 15, 2013 and stars the critically appreciated Subodh Bhave in the title role. The film has music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, a first for Marathi cinema. The film is slated for release end 2013. (more…)
NEW DELHI: The number of foreign women tourists visiting India has dropped by 35 percent in the past three months following a spate of sex attacks that have made global headlines, a new survey has found.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) says overall tourist arrivals are down 25 percent year-on-year, with holiday makers opting instead to visit other Asian countries such as Malaysia and Thailand.
The fatal gang rape of a 23-year-old Indian student by six men on a bus in New Delhi in December sparked outrage over the country’s treatment of women, and since then there have also been other widely reported attacks.
A Swiss cyclist was gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh last month, while a South Korean tourist was allegedly drugged and raped in the same state in January by the son of the owner of a hotel where she was staying. (more…)

Haider Direction: Vishal Bhardwaj Actors: Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan, Shraddha Kapoor Rating: ***1/2 There is much in Haider that deserves a standing ovation. Let’s start with the courage of director Vishal Bhardwaj. Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most difficult and ambiguous texts. It’s also his longest— it takes over four hours to deliver. Hamlet in itself is a beast to be tamed. Vishal and his co-writer, the acclaimed Kashmiri journalist Basharat Peer, transplant the play to Kashmir. It plays out against a socio-political tragedy that has been wrought over six decades and that has a Rashomon-like quality to it — the heroes and villains switch places, depending on the narrator. The result is a film that is problematic and far tooRead more...
Thoughts on AR Rahman’s gloriously fun and wholly individual soundtrack for the new Shankar film. You know that familiar Tamil-cinema contrivance where a prisoner in handcuffs is being led away in a police van, and the van stops at a crossing, and the prisoner looks around furtively and sees a chance, and as the cops are looking the other way (or maybe after a scuffle) he slips out and runs into the forest, and he runs and he runs, and then, in a clearing, there’s a conveniently located shack where a sweaty smithy is pounding away on an anvil, and he looks up and sees those handcuffs in front of his nose, and he brings his hammer down and frees the prisoner? That’s the pictureRead more...
