Bhoothnath - A complete family treat!
SAVIO ZACAHRIA, IndiaGlitz [Friday, May 09, 2008]

Much has been said about Bhoothnath right from the pairing of Amitabh and Shahrukh after a long time and the potential that the debutant director Vivek Sharma carries.

After films such as ‘Bhagbhan’ , ‘Babul’ , comes yet another film from the reputed B.R. Films but this time around unlike their previous ventures you neither get to see a typical family drama nor the presence of Ravi Chopra spearheading the direction of the film. This time the offering is absolutely new and fresh with debutant Vivek Sharma exploring the relationship between a young boy and a spirit in a very innovative, humorous manner.

The story revolves around a 7 year old naughty boy –Banku(Aman Siddiqui) whose family(Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla) comes to live in a mansion in Goa. The mansion-Nath Villa is considered haunted after the demise of Kailash Nath (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife.

Bhoothnath Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Though I cannot put much credence into Taran’s reviews, he does have a sense of the way a movie can run,so hopefully this turns out to be true.

Teaming two superstars [Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan] in your directorial debut is as good as impossible. Opting for a novel story — the relationship between a spirit and a mortal — is an equally big challenge. Really, it requires courage to make a film that defies the stereotype, yet is seeped in emotions that work with the Indian junta. Vivek Sharma’s first outing BHOOTHNATH is a simple story, well told and that’s why it works!

Director A R Murugadoss arrested(Ghajini)

I don’t how true this is but here you go.

http://www.telugucinema.com/c/publish/news/murugadoss_feb2908.php

Director A.R. Murgadoss, the hit director of Ghajini and Stalin, was today arrested in Chennai. The ace director who is now remaking the Hindi version of Ghajini with Aamir Khan was arrested by the Salem Police on a complaint filed by Salem Chandrasekhar, the Tamil Ghajini producer. Chandrasekhar had filed a police complaint with the Salem Police saying that Murugadoss had kept him in the dark regarding the making of a Hindi version of Ghajini and he has not been paid his due share of the remake rights.

But the manner in which Murgadoss was surreptitiously bundled into a car by police in mufti, in full glare of heavy traffic, made it look like a “film style kidnapping”, according to onlookers.

Jodhaa Akbar Movie review by Taran Adarsh

A first good review , a good omen let us see how this plays out.

Let’s get one thing straight: You haven’t watched anything so opulent, so magnificent like this in a long, long time on the Hindi screen. It’s not just body beautiful, but there’s soul as well.

It requires courage, prowess, patience, aptitude, knowledge, passion and of course, loads of currency to attempt a movie like JODHAA AKBAR. But more than anything else, it requires your firm belief in the subject, the belief to attempt a historical when historicals are considered an absolute no-no in the industry, the belief to spend almost Rs. 40 crores in a film that could go either ways.

Actress slapped!

http://www.rediff.com/movies/2007/oct/16actress.htm

In a bizarre incident, an award winning actress Padmapriya was slapped on the sets of a Tamil film titled Mirugam by its director, Samy in front of the entire unit.

A furious Padmapriya has filed a compliant against the director with the actors’ association, Nadigar Sangam. Taking recognizance of this, the association has banned further shooting of the film. It has also banned the director from directing any film for a period of one year.

In the joint meeting, Samy publically apologised to Padmapriya, but the meeting rejected it and resolved to ban him for a period of one year.

As the incident occurred in the full view of the public and crew, Samy could not deny the incident. So, he had the cheekiness to come on television and say that Padmapriya was a bad actress and that she could not get the right expression despite trying for several days. And it was out of frustration that he slapped her.

Craze For ABS

Craze For ABS

As Bollywood ups its demands on celebrities staying in shape, urban Indian men wake up to a new body approach. Beauty is now the credo, vanity the overriding motive. Everything goes, surgery to steroids to workouts, in the quest for a perfect six pack. Masculinity has turned a corner.
By Damayanti Datta

There stands the King. He looms above the city skyline, his usual perch, sending out special vibes to the brotherhood of the metro man below. For the first time, he poses in bare-chested glory: white shirt slipping off his shoulders, slab-like pecs glistening, six-pack abs rippling, biceps bulging. His tummy is so washboard, it’s almost unreal. His body is so lean, it’s almost an anatomy chart. And the bubbling crowd under the billboard is abuzz: is the Emperor without his clothes, or most of them, for real or is this just an illusion?

THE ORIGINAL
SALMAN KHAN
This often-shirtless hunk of a man started the body beautiful zeitgeist in Bollywood. He pumps iron three hours a day, cuts down on sleep time and often calls up his trainer in the wee hours for a session.

THE NATURAL
HRITHIK ROSHAN
A fitness fanatic, he dashes off to the gym at the drop of a hat, does 40 minutes of high-intensity weights and jogs or skips for 25 minutes every day. Whew! But he does all that for pleasure. On the food front? No butter, no ghee, no oil. Just grilled, boiled and roasted stuff.

No Tears For Oscar

No Tears For Oscar

Quibbling over which film India sends to the Academy Awards is not as important as getting the film nominated over stiff competition from 50 other nations. And then winning.
By Kaveree Bamzai

The sheer entertainment generated by the controversy surrounding India’s official entry to the Oscars in the foreign language film category has far outstripped that provided either by Eklavya: The Royal Guard or by the film that has challenged it, Dharm. The name-calling between the two filmmakers, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Bhavna Talwar, and even third parties unconnected to the whole drama, can only be described as delicious. While Chopra has declared that the controversy is “spoiling” India’s image internationally, first-time filmmaker Talwar has pronounced that her film Dharm went to the Cannes Film Festival in the Cinema of the World section. She omits to mention it was accompanied by six other Indian films, among them Mani Ratnam’s Guru and Rituparno Ghosh’s Dosar, while director Sajid Khan has said the entire box office collection of Chopra’s oeuvre could fit into the pocket of his debut film, Heyy Babyy.

PICTURE SPEAK

“Nadeem Khan is a member of the jury and one of my oldest friends. He voted for Bhawna Talwar’s film.”

VIDHU VINOD CHOPRA
Director, Eklavyaa

ROYAL CHALLENGE: A still from Eklavya

“It’s all about personal agenda. If we send Eklavya, the Academy will say we don’t know how to make films.”

Happy Days Review

This is from one of the better directors in Telugu, the remake rights were bought by Prakash Raj even before the movie was released. Shetty bhai maybe you should watch this instead of Chirutha.

Amitabh Bachchan’s The Last Lear gets a 15-minute standing ovation at the Toronto Film Festival

I’m New To All This: Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan is becoming something of a favourite at the Toronto International Film Festival, it seems. Last year, he went with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and this year Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear was screened in the prestigious Master’s Section. He tells us more in this exclusive one-on-one.

About the Toronto experience….
I am new to the film festival scenario, so being a part of the Toronto Film Festival was a novel experience. They say it’s a big deal to be in the Master’s Section.

The crowds and fans on the street leading up to the main theatre before the red carpet, the 2,500-seater inside packed to capacity, the introductions on stage, the special box for the cast, the pin-drop silence and the rapt attention with which the audience watched the film, and when the credits rolled in the end and the spotlight came on to our seats, the 15-minute standing ovation. It was moving, emotional and so overwhelming! It all seemed unreal, but so satisfying!

The Last Lear Movie Review

Note: This is an exclusive review from a reviewer that had the opportunity to watch the film at the Toronto Film Festival. Remember, you read it first on BollySpice.com!

Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal, Shefali Shah, Divya Dutta
Director: Rituparno Ghosh

Rituparno Ghosh is a far cry from ordinary. He does not make films for the masses, he does not make films to help people escape reality and he does not make films to revel in the luxuries of money. He makes simple films soaked with emotions—films that make you feel. As Cameron Bailey so rightly put it at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, “Rituparno Ghosh can make a simple conversation between two characters unbelievably dramatic.” After watching The Last Lear, I heartily agree.

There are those that are so inadequately skilled that they throw emotions in your face to trigger laughs and wrench tears from audiences. And then there are those, whose proficiency is so overwhelming that a simple dialogue or gesture can open the gates to a flood of emotions. Rituparno Ghosh belongs to the latter. There are also those whose mind is painted stark black and white that they need to spell everything out as if they are making a film for a two-year old child. And then there are those whose eye is so tuned, who showcase their mastery of detail so vividly that only the most attentive of viewers can bask in the splendor.

LUNCH WITH BS: Ram Gopal Varma

Fire and brimstone
Shyamal Majumdar & Aminah Sheikh / Mumbai August 28, 2007

The maverick director talks about his decision to remake one of India’s timeless classics and why logic should not get in the way of cinema.

It isn’t exactly the perfect setting for a Lunch with BS. Ram Gopal Varma walks in half-an-hour late and his body language is tired. On top of that, Varma says he appeared recently for a breakfast show on TV with two other directors, but kept quiet throughout as he couldn’t quite figure out why anybody would be interested in watching him talking while eating, write Shyamal Majumdar and Aminah Sheikh.

Hyderabad: 32 killed, 35 injured in twin blasts

Frikking Bastards, whoever did this needs to be frikking lined up and shot or lynched like dogs. Every frikkin 6 months there are blasts in India, it is as if it is a normal expected part of life.

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/aug/25hydblast.htm
In two near-simultaneous terror attacks, 32 people were killed and 35 injured in two explosions at a crowded park and a popular eating joint in Hyderabad on Saturday evening, three months after the Mecca Masjid blasts.

Twenty six people died and 22 wounded when an explosion ripped through Gokul Chat Shop at Kothi locality at around 7.30 pm, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy told reporters in Hyderabad.

Six people, most of them from outside the state, were killed and 13 injured in another blast five minutes earlier in an open air auditorium in Lumbini Park near the state secretariat in the heart of Hyderabad when a laser show was on, he said.

Sallubhai’s nakhras force Shinde out

http://www.greatandhra.com/blogs/view_blog.php?blogid=134

I have allways liked this guy since Shool. ALl his telugu movies he dubs for it himself, very impressive, definitely would be missed in the Hind Pokiri.

Do not be misled by his ordinary looks. Sayaji Shinde has acted only in a few Telugu films, but he has become a household name in Andhra Pradesh. His superlative performance in Pokiri fetched him accolades galore.

“The credit goes to director Puri Jagannath. The dialogues in the film, particularly, Thinnamma Padukunnama, Lechama , made me more popular among the Andhra viewers than any other film could,” admits Sayaji.

Now he is busy in Tamil, Kannada, Marathi and Hindi films. Almost all his films released recently have been hits. In Shankardada Zindabad , he played opposite Chiranjeevi. “He is a down-to-earth person and never makes others feel that he is a megastar,” said Shinde about Chiru.

Heyy Baby India fm review

Looks like a winner

When one sits on the fence and analyzes movies, passing scathing and acidic comments on all and sundry, be it films or those associated with it, the same people you’d targeted are bound to examine your film with a magnifying glass, when they get an opportunity.

Sajid Khan is known for his funny-n-witty repartees and in his first major project HEYY BABYY, he not only merges funny situations and emotional moments with aplomb, but also makes a compelling, wholesome film.

HEYY BABYY is not completely THREE MEN AND A BABY. Sure, you draw parallels since both THREE MEN AND A BABY and HEYY BABYY revolve around a trio of confirmed bachelors who unexpectedly discover the joys of fatherhood when a baby is left at their doorstep, but the similarities end there. In fact, the promos in this case don’t open the cards completely. There’s more to this film than masti-mazaak and the three men chasing girls of all shapes and sizes.
