Barfi! Heads For 100 Crore Plus Business

Monday 1st October 2012 12.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Barfi! is set to cross the 100 crore nett mark by the end of its fourth week or at least be very close. The film has grossed around 81 crore nett in two weeks and with Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday, the third week will close in the 13-15 crore nett range giving it a three week total in the range of 94-96 crore nett.

The film has done extremely well in Mumbai and Delhi but its strongest business has come in places like Kolkatta and Bangalore. The performance in single screen markets is below the mark.
It will be the first time that a film which mainly has a multiplex audience goes on to hit a century. Prior to Barfi!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara at 90 crore nett approx was the highest grossing film in this bracket.

Although 100 crore nett is not a major benchmark today, its still an achievement for a film like Barfi! as it had limited mass appeal.

Barfi! Has Strong Gains On Second Saturday

Sunday 23rd September 2012 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Barfi! had strong gains on its second Saturday as it collected around 5-5.25 crore nett. The collections are around 8.25 crore nett plus over two days in the second week. The weekend should be around the 15 crore nett range.

The business is extraordinary at high end multiplexes as collections at many premium multiplexes in metros were better than the new release Heroine on Saturday. The film has not done well in smaller circuits with it finding acceptance in just a a hand full of cities in places like Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan.

GOW2 is one helluva wild ride!

Sad Bollywood songs at funeral, Gangsters emulating the bad boys of Bollywood (Dutt & Salman) in rather bizzare ways, exhilarating chase sequences – all these and more grab the viewer’s attention as Kashyap presents the seemingly meaningless & sometime trivial  issues in such a fascinating way.

The proceedings are loaded with crude cow belt humor & yet there are moments which make you think.

Everyone acts brilliantly & all the details are executed to perfection. Off course, it’s a Kashyap show all the way as he yet again proves his mastery over the medium.

Just don’t miss this master piece!

Gangs of Wasseypur: My Views

June 23, 2012 | 3

Gangs of Wasseypur holds you by the neck, digs it’s claws deep & keeps you trapped till the final credit rolls.

Kashyap’s genius (or should I say visceral genius) is showcased here in the best possible manner.

The snappy dialogues loaded with crude cowbelt cuss words,  dark humor & gory violence….it all works wonderfully well.

Kashyap does show self indulgence at times but the movie is too good to be bogged down by that.

Agneepath 2012: My Take

January 26, 2012 |

This probably is one of the most difficult Bachchan film to remake but Johar has done it with reasonable success I must say.

For those who have the seen the VDC volcano exploding theaters  in 1990(including yours truly), this reboot is a farce but let’s not undermine the amount of hard work Hrithik has put in.  He gives it all he has & somehow manages to be Vijay (not Vijay Dinanath Chauhan offcourse !!).  But having said that he destroys the legacy of the iconic character. VDC of 1990 was a charismatic, larger than life man while the Vijay of 2012 is a boy playing games in order to get the antagonist’s head. Hrithik acts well but the just doesn’t have enough substance it in him to make this iconic character his own.

Chopra girl annoys to the core while Zarina Wahab takes a back seat unlike Rohini Hattangadi. The great Om Puri is criminally wasted.

Rishi Kapoor spews venom & how !! Great performance indeed & I hope he keeps surprising us.

An interview with Agneepath’s Kancha Cheena

August 15, 2011 | 4

Arnab Ray: An interview with Agneepath’s Kancha Cheena

Arnab Ray | Sunday, August 14, 2011

Interviewer: We are fortunate to have with us today the elusive Kancha Cheena, much-loved villain from Agneepath. Sir, first of all, it is great to see you doing so well after all these years.

Kancha Cheena: It is a good time for villains now in India. The days of getting beaten black and blue by heroes in the front of the camera for a few rupees is long gone. I remember back in the ’90s, one would have to go through so much hassle to seize the land of the poor.

In Agneepath, if you remember, I had to set-up the school master, deal with his avenging son —all just to get control over the small coastal village of Mandawa. Such lafda I tell you. Now the government would have just designated that place as an SEZ and bingo the deed would be done. Why just land?

”The Drona sequel will be made” – Goldie Behl

”The Drona sequel will be made” – Goldie Behl

By Subhash K. Jha, October 8, 2008 – 12:39 IST

Shah Rukh and his son Aryan loved Drona. And Goldie Behl is relieved and happy. “It’s important for children to enjoy Drona. I’m glad Aryan enjoyed it. I made the film for the child and the child at heart, not for those who like their cinema entertainment twisted and perverse.”

In fact Goldie will now dedicate the Drona sequel to Shah Rukh’s son and his own son Ranvir. It may or may not be the season of sequels. But it seems no power on earth will prevent Goldie Behl from doing a sequel to Drona.

In fact Abhishek Bachchan who’s the only Indian actor to have done multiple sequels (Dhoom-Dhoom 2, Sarkar-Sarkar Raj) is most kicked by the idea of getting into the Drona togs once again. “It’s a very interesting possibility. And taking the story forward is an idea that we’ve planted into the climax of the story. I don’t see why we should change our minds. It’s a new genre. There’re no reference points to Drona in the audience’s movie-viewing experience. Initially they were bound to be a bit confused, as we always are by something new. We were prepared for that”, says Abhishek, undeterred by some skeptical responses to Drona.

De Taali, scores, Sarkar Raj has good 3rd weekend, MBPA drops: IBOS

June 24, 2008 | 8

Tuesday, June 24, 2008 – BO Report

Eshwar Niwas’ De Taali collected good collections over its opening weekend. Despite being on relatively lower 70 prints in Mumbai and lower elsehwere, the Ritesh Deshmukh-Aftab Shivdasani starrer has had upto 50-60% response over the weekend making it good opening given the costs. It looks to bank upon that for recovery.

After a drop in week 2, Sarkar Raj has had a stabler 3rd weekend. Strong showings were reported off theaters like Cinemax Versova in Mumbai, Inox in Chennai, PVR in Bangalore/Saket in Delhi etc. The Amitabh Bachchan-Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai film will generate profit for distributors overall and for producers for a total profit of around 20 crores.

MBPA had a fair to good week, but the 2nd weekend collections have shown a steep drop.

Mere Baap Pehle Aap Poor Sarkar Raj Fair First Week : BoIndia

Mere Baap Pehle Aap opened to poor 35-40% response today. The film should have better collections over the weekend. The film has fair reports so it should earn money or at least recover costs.

Sarkar Raj collected 22.50 crore in week one due to the large amount of prints. After a good weekend the film dropped from Monday and will struggle to cover costs outside Mumbai and Mysore. Small centres are poor.

Aamir did buisness of 1.25 crore in week one. The film was steady but has gone into week two with reduced shows.

Jannat takes its total to over 31 crore with another 1.40 crore. SUPERHIT
