KKR 1: Delhi Daredevils 0.
Baadshah 1: Khiladi 0
The scoreline for the two matches played out at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday night. One for the TV cameras and the other away from them. One a game of cricket. The other a game of Bollywood. That’s what the IPL is all about, isn’t it?
First the Baadshah, also the 12th man of the home team and defending champ. Shah Rukh Khan first jumped on his feet. Then he got up on the railing. And then had people around him raise him up further. His boys had started their 2013 campaign on an emphatic note. With eight balls to spare and six wickets in hand, they thumped Delhi. And then there was the Khiladi.
Who? Where? What?
Akshay Kumar was the outsider on Shah Rukh Khan’s turf. So much so that the SET Max cameras did not capture the Khiladi even once. They were apparently too busy capturing the Baadshah and his boys to bother about Akshay, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, camping in KKR country to promote their August release, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai… Again. But aren’t Khiladi Kumar and Baadshah Khan on cordial-bordering-on- friendly terms? Not on the cold-shoulder evidence of what played out in the air-conditioned boxes at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday night. Continue reading

The number appended to the title isn’t exactly apt in the context of the actor’s career, but it is a film that has given 45-year-old Bollywood star Akshay Kumar a fillip of a pleasantly different kind. It has taken him 22 long years to come upon a film as special as Special 26. And the wait has been worth it.
Akshay, who made his acting debut in 1991 with the nondescript Saugandh before hitting his straps the following year in Khiladi, has garnered widespread critical accolades for his deft performance in the Neeraj Pandey-directed thriller.
In the film, he sheds his starry mannerisms to take the most diehard detractors by surprise. Movie critics had all but given up hope of the Singh is Kinng star ever being part of a cinematic project that would dare to go beyond the safety net of mainstream Bollywood action flicks and comedies.
He has defied all expectations by accepting a role that is variance with his established on-screen persona — that of an all-out action star (like in Rowdy Rathore) or a comic hero(like in Hera Pheri and Housefull).Special 26 takes its premise from a daring real-life heist that a posse of conmen posing as income tax officials pulled off in a jewellery store in the heart of Mumbai in 1987. Akshay is cast as the kingpin of the group that hatches the improbable plot, commits the crime and makes a clean getaway. Continue reading
Akshay Kumar has become the toast of Bollywood with the success rate of his films, the latest being Special 26. On the other hand, we have filmmaker Ramesh Taurani fresh from the success of Race 2.
However, the high point is the news that the duo has team up for a two film deal.
Confirming the development, Taurani says, “Yes we have signed on Akshay Kumar for two films, the first of which will be directed by
Sajid- Farhad and will go on floors this year, while the second film will start somewhere in 2014.”
“However, at this time I cannot say much more about either of the
films as it is still too early”, states Taurani when pressed for more
Bollywood`s `khiladi` Akshay Kumar is ready to take action to the next level with his upcoming film ‘Boss’.
“Returning to my home turf, solid, never-seen-before action after `Rowdy Rathore` with `Boss`. In theatres on October 18, 2013,” Akshay, a trained martial arts expert, wrote on Twitter.
The 45-year-old established himself as an action hero with movies like ‘Mr. And Mrs. Khiladi’, ‘Mohra’ ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’. However, he later diverted himself towards light movies like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karoge’.
It was his 2012 movie ‘Rowdy Rathore’, which was said to be his return to the action genre.
However, if one goes by Akshay`s tweet, ‘Boss’ might have tougher action. Continue reading
