“Chennai Express” looks unstoppable and already crashed almost every record possible. Film crossed two huge milestones today at domestic box office and overseas.
Film was extraordinary in overseas and added 11 more cr on weekdays in 2nd week. Film has collected 100-100.50 cr in 2 weeks which is not only record but a tough one to break anytime soon.
Film did exceptionally well today at many places in India. CP, Delhi, Bihar, Bangalore and Mumbai were close to 40% overall and few cinemas recorded close to 70% occupancy which is unbelievable for a film in 2nd week.
As per early estimates, film should collect 3.65 cr nett today which means film has collected close to 44 cr nett in 2nd week which is 3rd highest ever 2nd week only behind 46 cr nett of YJHD and 56 cr nett of “3 Idiots”. Thus film has collected 201 cr nett plus in 2 weeks straight and now only 2nd film to do so. Continue reading
Madras Cafe is releasing on 23rd August and it has to fight it out with Chennai Express and Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara which are currently running at the box office. As per information received Madras Cafe has managed to get good screen size at least in multiplexes and is leading ahead of Chennai Express and OUATIMD. In single screens screens are shared between all the movies.
Madras Cafe has got around 1600-1650 screens all India. Still screens are getting locked but actual should be in that range. Considering the film star cast of John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri it is a significant release size.
Chennai Express which is already into 3rd week now has able to retain most of the screen from second week. As per our estimates it will get a screen release size of around 950-1000 in 3rd week. Which is just 40% drop from 2nd Week. As for OUATIMD it is the biggest casualty because of Madras Cafe. It has got a screen count of around 850-900 screens. Film had around 2300-2400 screen size last week and around 60-65% drop is registered in its screening. Anyways still Chennai Express and OUATIMD has enough significant screens to collect sizeable in coming days. As for Madras Cafe it has got bountiful screen size and now all depends on film content to fare at the Indian Box Office.
Approximate Screen Count for 23rd August (From Samples Taken. Actual may vary a little) – Continue reading
The fortunes of Balaji Motion Pictures’ Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! (OUATIMD) dropped considerably today, a far cry from its opening day when shows ran almost house full across territories. The film’s dipping fortunes come in spite of an increase in the number of screens today, and the film is likely to earn near Rs 10 crore on day two, all-India NBOC. Distributors say word-of-mouth publicity is not in favour of the film, which has accounted for its volatile business prospects.
Rajesh Thadani, Multimedia Combines, Mumbai
There is a huge drop in the film’s business today. Since the film was allotted more screens today, the film will manage around Rs 10 crore, all-India, and Rs 3.5 crore NBOC in Mumbai.

From all the public appearances that are lined up on his busy diary of commitments, Bollywood superstar and accused in a 2002 hit-and-run case Salman Khan has been let off from the kind that is least expected – those that require his presence at the court of law.
A court document obtained by Mid-day has revealed that the actor has been exempted his court appearance a whopping 83 times in the past decade. On December 26, Mid-Day reported how the Bandra police had failed to serve him the court summons, even though he was spotted in the same week at a high-profile party and shooting in Mehboob Studios. He has also been reporting to work on the sets of his TV show.
Subsequently, Salman was exempted from the court appearance on December 27, which happened to be his 47th birthday. The actor’s sisters Alvira and Arpita, and his lawyer Dipesh Mehta appeared at the Bandra court on behalf of the birthday boy.
The shocking court statistics came to light in a court petition filed by Santosh Daundkar asking about the inordinate delay in the case proceedings. The petition says, ‘The Salman hit-and-run case happened in 2002 but the trial in this case is still far to end, even though more than 10 years have elapsed and 90 court hearings have taken place’. New Delhi: For close to three months Bollywood actor Aamir Khan made Indians squirm with guilt and denial and forced them to face their dark side over a series of well researched and executed social documentaries on rampant social inequalities.
The straight talking, intense host of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ tore apart the moribund traditions that manifested in gender specific selections of foetuses, caste discrimination and abuse of the elderly. He made a nation sit up and take notice of the hypocrisies that its people passed off as convention. He even moved the stone-hearted with stories so grim that they’d make your skin crawl.
All the more reason why ‘Talaash’ was such a letdown because its lead protagonist and social torch bearer compromised the stand he took months ago on showing the uneducated, ill informed, misguided and superstitious Indians the light of reason and rationalism.
Aamir roused in his ‘Satyamev Jayate’ audience a strange sense of patriotism. Of course we knew of the deep rooted corruption that plagued our medical profession. The urban Indians were also vaguely aware of the cruel Khap Panchayats diktats. We weren’t ready to look the evil in the eye until we were made to. Continue reading
Perfectionist Aamir Khan pushed back the ‘Dhoom 3’ shooting schedule due to some reasons. The December and January schedule has been postponed to the end of February 2013. The reason for the delay is said to be Aamir’s perfectionist outlook. The scene requires some dare-devil stunts and Aamir wants some training to get it perfectly right.
A source informed that Aamir needed to rehearse for his action scenes and so the shooting has been pushed back. Another source close to the project says, “The ten-day December schedule from 7th to 17th was postponed because Aamir needed to promote ‘Talaash’.”
However, Yashraj spokesperson gave Aamir the sufficient time he needs for ‘Talaash’ promotion.
Stating that the next schedule of ‘Dhoom 3? would occur “post-Talaash” the YRF spokesperson says, “As a norm we do appreciate an artiste’s unavailability for our project during another film’s promotion and that was built into our schedule. Continue reading
