Teen suicides - India Today
Deep inside the U-shaped complex of Delhi’s premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the clock clacks against the heavy silence in psychiatrist Manju Mehta’s chamber.
A mother sits huddled in front of her. “I want to say sorry for not listening to you,” she stutters as she talks and searches for words, her eyes welling with tears. Neither she nor her husband had accepted Mehta’s diagnosis that behind her son’s falling grades and temper tantrums, lay learning disability and severe depression. “Conduct disorder is his way of gaining self-respect,” Mehta had told them.
The parents, more interested in improving his school performance, had not heeded the advice, “Don’t put pressure on him.” Just before the annual exams, he had suddenly turned over a new leaf: he was nice to everyone, listened to everything his parents said, met up with people he was fond of.
Finally, one afternoon, he took his own life. “I quit,” read the chit lying on his bed.

NEW DELHI: Multiplex chains Adlabs Cinemas, Inox, Fame, Cinemax and Movietime have come together to take a stand against the two movies releasing this Friday namely Welcome and Taare Zameen Par.
PVR and Studio 18, the distributors of Taare Zameen Par and Welcome respectively are demanding higher revenue shares from multiplexes. While PVR is demaning for 50, 40 share for the first two weeks for Bombay and 50, 45 for other cities Studio 18 is asking for 50, 42.5, 35 for Bomby and 50, 45 for other cities. PVR co-produced film Taare Zameen Par is releasing alongwith Welcome on 21 December and it is the only chain to have succumbed to the demands of Studio 18’s revenue share terms. As of Thursday night, PVR will be the only multiplex chain to release both the movies.
Despite these two movies being touted as sure shot hits and having the potential to rake in money for the multiplexes, multiplexes have sacrificed the monies to set right the revenue terms for the industry.

Making the write move
Not only have Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap buried the hatchet, the two are also gearing up to make a film together. Karan will produce the film, Anurag will write it and Rang De Basanti writer, Rensil D’Silva will direct it.
Just last evening, the three were spotted in the coffee shop of a suburban five-star hotel. What caught our attention was Anurag’s formal attire. He is generally known to not pay much attention to dressing up. The two sat with each other for a long time. “The two had a long, intense conversation,” our source says.
The two of them belong to different schools of filmmaking. It will be interesting to know what they create when they come together. Our source says, “Karan Johar has approached Anurag Kashyap to write the dialogue for the upcoming Dharma Productions film. The two have have decided to put their differences behind for good and Anurag has been signed on for the project.” The film is said to be a mega-budget film which will go on the floors next year.
Welcome set to win over TZP
link
Between the two biggies set to clash this Friday, Welcome and Taare Zameen Par, the Akshay Kumar starrer is being touted as a clear winner over TZP by trade and industrywalas alike. So will it be a reply of Om Shanti Om v/s Saawariya? Let’s find out!
Anees Bazmee (No Entry) directed multistarrer Welcome has the super hit pairing of Akshay – Katrina Kaif along with Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Feroz Khan and Paresh Rawal for company. While Aamir Khan’s directorial debut has only one known face and that’s him.
Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh feels, “Welcome will definitely take a huge opening compared to Taare Zameen Par. The film is very hot in the trade right now. Comedy has been the flavour of 2007 with all big hits having been comic capers. Welcome looks like a complete winner in this category. Taare Zameen Par is definitely looking a good film too but in mass appeal Welcome may just score over it.”
Distribution big wig J.Popat reveals, “The demand for Welcome from all centres of the country is terrific. Even small distributors have paid unheard prices to acquire the film completely assured of a bumper opening. TZP doesn’t seem to carry that craze with him. Though it gives the impression of a children’s film, it may be more for the elders and the fact that the subject is serious may also limit its footfalls.”
Gujarat: Aamir Khan’s new movie runs into trouble
Like his previous two movies Fanaa [Images] and Rang De Basanti [Images], the screening of Aamir Khan’s [Images] forthcoming film Taare Zameen [Images] Par in Gujarat ran into trouble when a group of men forced a cinema hall owner in Vadodara to remove posters of the flick for the actor’s support to Narmada Bachao Andolan.
About 50 members of the Sardar Patel Group gathered at Vihar Cinema in Pratapnagar area and compelled the management to remove posters of the to-be-released movie. They also tore up several posters of the film.
The group went also to `Inox’ [Get Quote] and `Chandan’ movie halls in the city and submitted a memorandum to the management, asking them not to screen Khan’s new movie.
The group members said they would not allow screening of the film in Vadodara, Ahmedabad and other places in Gujarat as he has not yet apologised for “speaking against” the interest of the state when he supported Narmada Bachao Andolan’s agitation in Delhi against construction of Sardar Sarovar Project on river Narmada.
