Ek Tha Tiger Set Be Down Again On Friday

August 18, 2012 | 54

Ek Tha Tiger started like a hurricane and had a big fall on day two which was expected due to the huge collections on day one but it seems the downward trend is continuing on Friday.

The film should have consolidated on Friday and have similar collections in the 14-15 crore nett range but it seems a fall is on the cards as collections coming in at places are 20% lower than Thursday so a Friday fall is certain even if other places hold up better.

It could be the Ramadan period that is taking a toll on collections or it could be that the film does not have public appreciation that the last few Salman Khan starrers have had.

Satyamev Jayate , “Highest ever viewings” and unreliable/fake TAM rating[Updated:TAM Mafia exposed, further consolidating the fact:SATYAMEV JAYATE is all time greatest]

August 1, 2012 | 95

[Latest addition :TAM mafia rules the roost in AP]

The Central Government made digitalization of TV transmission compulsory in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai from July next year, and within next 2 years in the rest of the cities. Then the viewership will be recorded in the set-top box and calculated in the centalised system. This might end the dirty games of the TAM mafia and give genuine channels their due.

Salman Khan’s fan ‘committed to murder’

July 30, 2012 | 9

It must be flattering for our superstars when their on-screen antics inspire the real-life actions of their admirers. But here’s an instance that could make any celebrity cringe. Inspired by a one-liner from his screen idol’s hit film ‘Wanted’, a devoted fan of Salman Khan killed and robbed a courier firm employee to honour his promise of repaying a loan.

When asked by cops why he resorted to murder, he quoted the line from Khan’s blockbuster ‘Wanted’: ‘Maine jo ek baar commitment kar dee toh phir main apne aap ki bhi nahin sunta’.

Talha Mohammed Munaf Ansari (29), a resident of Madanpura, Nagpada, was arrested by Unit II of Crime Branch on June 20, for the murder of Jeetu Sadarangani alias Govind (22), an employee of Mamaji Courier Cargo. The ardent admirer of Khan had even met the object of his worship on the sets of ‘Dabangg’, where he wangled a photograph with the screen idol.

Salman Khan likely to face a jail term for three years!

July 26, 2012 | 214

It seems that one wrong that he committed eons ago has held on to actor Salman Khan’s neck like an albatross leaving no room for him to live in peace.

News has it that the star might have to face a jail term once again for the black-buck shooting case which charged him along with his co-stars like Tabu, Neelam, Sonali Bendre, and Saif Ali Khan during their ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ shooting days.

Now that the case is being examined by the Rajasthan High Court, sources have reported that the stars who were involved (especially Salman) will be held under Section 51 of Wildlife Act and section 149 of the IPC. Sadly, the fact is that Section 51 of the wildlife Act includes a three year jail term!

Satyamev Jayate: The impact of Aamir Khan’s TV show

May 12, 2012 | 2

It’s not easy to get the kind of response Aamir Khan’s show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is receiving. The TV show has generated a lot of enthusiasm towards the issue of female foeticide. The first episode of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ had featured some alarming stats about the mindset of the society towards different sexes.

However, some of the states have shown the will to change the mindset as an after-effect of ‘Satyamev Jayate’. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met Aamir Khan to discuss the possible strategies to combat the issue of female foeticide. The Chief Minister was compelled to call an emergency meeting to formulise a plan against the deteriorating sex ration in some parts of Rajasthan. ‘Satyamev Jayate’ had invited two journalists who had done remarkable work in exposing the racket of sex determination in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Rajasthan Government took one more step to curb the problem. Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Arun Mishra has given green signal to set up a fast track court for expediting trial in the female foeticide cases.

Kamlesh Pandey on TRP

May 11, 2012 | 44

Final words about TRPs for those who worship at the alter of goddess TRP MATA, and those passionate KTLK fan like you who may wonder why KTLK is not getting the TRP it deserves. So please read it carefully because I am not going to answer it again and again. My first encounter with TRP was when I joined Zee TV as its Vice President, Programming in 1992. I was doing well in advertising(I was the most awarded writer) and was moonlighting as screenwriter in movies and had already written ‘Tezab’, ‘Dil’, ‘Beta’, ‘Saudagar’, ‘Khalnayak’, etc. But I wanted to romance this hot new medium called television(there is another story why, but that would be digression). Simply because I consider television more powerful than cinema because it is addictive and repetitive and can change mindsets if it is done well(as the saying goes, television is a medium, neither rare, nor well done!)My friend Alec Padamsi from advertising and Shekhar Kapur from movies advised me against it, telling me why do I want to quit two professions where I was at the top to join something which has no future? Who would watch satellite TV in a country where Doordarshan is free to air and covers 70% of the country. But I wanted to check out this new hot bird Television so I took the job offered by my friend Subhash Chandra as a challenge. I designed and defined Zee TV, India’s first Hindi satellite channel(yes, I was one of the founder members of Zee TV and Indian’s first Head of Programming!) and consequently made it the fastest growing channel in history(many of you may have been kids at that time). In ratings, (TRP) 9 out of 10 shows were Zee TV shows(if you remember ‘Tara’, ‘Banegi Apni Baat’, ‘Campus’, ‘Antakshari’, etc.). The only exception was Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Krishna’ which was on Doordarshan. But I was not very sure whether TRP is the right measurement of a show’s popularity.

What TRP is and what it can do, for that, please check out a classic Hollywood film ‘Network’ made back in 80′s.

It[Network) is about satellite networks and their obsession with TRPs and the story of a man who got killed because of lousy TRPs.

So back to the world of TRPs. How is the TRP measured? TAM sets TAM meters in a few households which are kept on when those families watch television. And whatever is their watching pattern is recorded on the TAM meters and that decides the TRP! Now how many households have been given these TAM meters? In a country of 1.2 billion, only 10,000! Yes, just 10,000!So my friend, 10,000 households decide what a country of 1.2 billion should be watching or not watching. 70% of Indian houselhods who do not have access to satellite, are out of TRP meters. That leaves 40 crores viewers. So theoretically, 10,000 viewers decided what India should be watching. But who are these 10,000 households? What is their background, what is their educational qualification, what kind of people they are, what is their sensibility and sensitivity? I have no idea. Maybe only the TAM people have.

Satyamev Jayate will have the highest TRPs in television history and highest GRPs for a single episode of a show ever.

May 10, 2012 | 2

It is quite likely that the show will have the highest TRPs in television history and highest GRPs for a single episode of a show ever. A new benchmark will have been set by the time the ratings come out next week. Indiantelevision.com estimates that close to 70-80 GRPs will be generated by the show across languages.

These GRPs are very very valuable for they will open up a time slot for advertisers and broadcasters on Sunday morning, one which has been moribund for around 20 years.

The show is noteworthy for one point. Star TV head honcho Uday Shankar – a former journalist – does want to use it to try and make it an instrument of change in Indian society. At least make an attempt to weed out evils which have been plaguing hapless common Indians for decades. And it is using various media outlets to get the message of Satyameva Jayate out: TV, print, Internet, social media, public interactions, and what have you.

Satyamev Jayate: Aamir Khan inherits the Mahabharata legacy

satyamevJ Satyamev Jayate: Aamir Khan inherits the Mahabharata legacy

Main samay hoon…. Announcer Harish Bhimani’s bass voice set against the silhouette of the gently spinning wheel of time was a fixture at almost every Indian home during the serialization of one of the most dramatic Indian epics during the fall-summer seasons of 1988-1990.

Bhimani, as the narrator of Mahabharata and the voice of time, signalled the start of every eagerly awaited episode on Sunday mornings when families gathered around their television sets to lose themselves in the world of princely feuds and political power games.

Aamir Khan’s pilot episode of TV show Satyamev Jayate has replaced the Sunday morning slot once dominated by the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana on DD National. The BR Chopra produced Mahabharata, better packaged than its predecessor Ramayana in the mid 80s, once united India better than any political or social campaign could.

Satyamev Jayate: The many splendours of truth

May 10, 2012 | 2

Satyamev Jayate isn’t just two words strung together. In tandem, they are a huge responsibility; big enough for an entire nation or someone truly great like Mahatma Gandhi to be associated with. And in these uncertain times, when ethics are acquiring a twisted new form, Satyamev Jayate is an even bigger burden to assume and carry.

Truth, after all, is not absolute. There are many shades of truth; and it may be presumptuous of an ordinary man to sit in judgment and decide as to which of these many shades of truth is worthy of recommendation to an entire nation. These are tremendous odds and Aamir Khan will be constantly under a critical lens; but he seems to have decided to plunge in.

Objectively speaking, it must be admitted that he has hit the ground running. He had many easier options of course. Other actors have used the small screen commercially; either to prop up a fading movie career or to benefit from the substantial revenues that the small screen now generates. These easy on eye and mind series are sufficiently fluffy to get good revenues for the sponsoring channel. Aamir could have easily fitted such a TV series into his schedule without applying himself to the task seriously. He has the elan and a large enough fan following to have pulled it off successfully. Wisely, he chose not to go for the easy option; as a socially committed artist, he has to do things differently.

Licences of 5 sonography centres suspended

May 10, 2012 | 13

JAIPUR: Buoyed by the presence of actor Aamir Khan who visited the city on Wednesday to plead for speedy trial of female foeticide cases in the state, the district administration swung into action and suspended licences of five sonography centres  here.

Taking stern action against the centres which were found violating the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal and Diagnostic (PCPNDT) Act 1994, which prevent sex determination and female feticide, the district administration also seized records of the five sonography centres.

“These centres were found violating the PCPNDT Act. Those hospitals and sonography centres violating the Act will not be spared. More action through surprise raids will be conducted in next few days by the district administration,” district collector Navin Mahajan said.
