Wow! Whatever i see on the promos i must have Aamir Khan has still got that sense of humor pretty much intact, just that we dont get to see more of candid Aamir and thankfully its the right platform for this i.e. Dus ka dum ..the Sallu Show.

I am so so fedup of seeing same Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar or Rani Mukherjee 10,000 times on SRK shows or Johar’s Coffee show. This one is for the real entertainment..this is what excites me :).

4th July 2008..9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television. Rock on!!

NG..eye on the Buzz…

At 10 am in the morning at Treasure Island, a mall at M.G.Road Indore, people already started gathering. At 2 pm it was 5000 plus people inside the mall. The simple reason that the Bachchans are gonna arrive at 7.30 pm for giving away the prizes to the PVR Sarkar Raj contest winners. The news came in that only Big B has managed to arrive coz Aishwarya has measels and Abhishek is busy with Dostana.

At 7 pm TI was full with 25,000 people. This is the attendance record it set on 26th Jan when the mall actually opened coz its the first mall of Madhya Pradesh. At 8 pm when Big B actually arrived it took him 15 mins to travel 100 meter distance amongst a huge huge gathering.

One cannot deny the fact that no matter its Khans, Roshans or Jr. Bachchan or anyone. Shehenshah creates a frenzy like no one does. He is surely over boxoffice status. Despite all this why is it that Bachchans are wasting time on Sarkar Raj and promoting it :-s…or this is a prep for the upcoming Drona.

The show at 8 pm and 6:15 were around 70% and others were damp squib. In Indore as i can see the film has collapsed in week 2 itself. There’s a saying in Indore, if you dont see much parking space available in VELOCITY, MP’s first multiplex, it reflects the film being massive, SR had a great first day but Saturday that parking lot was empty.

Finally…..World Champions :D

I congratulate Team India, its no Dhoni, its no Yuvraj, no Pathan..its TEAM INDIA that has won today. I will cherish this for my entire life, i had to do 2 sessions of Aartis of Ganeshji to get India winning. Misbah miscued his reverse sweep and my heart came almost popping out in my mouth.

This is why CRICKET..one of the most technical sport can also be one of the most biggest thriller that could ever be even thought of in bollywood script writing history. There are 16 lacs people as i speak on the roads of Indore..All you see is Tri Color and Bharat Mata Ki Jai….

GREAT

PS: Shoaib Malik you suck for your comment that “I am Sorry for entire Muslims across the world that we couldnt win, you sucker thats why Pathan Bros rock coz they played for entire cricketing fraternity and not just Muslim Bhais”

Going by the under hyped TRP from Yash Raj Films, which more or less has been their strategy of not to invest much on promotion. Infact TRP will be a heavily sponsored vehicle this time as reports suggests that 65% of production revenue has come from Automobile, lubricants and tyre manufacturer involved in that rally car, the one which Saif will drive.

Overall the hype isnt a match or a patch even to last year’s flicks like Fanaa, D2. The music has been disappointing and even the sales havent shown any increment with title rallying on No. 10. The music chart is now conquered by Emraan with his The Train opening humongously as well NL holding on.

Yash Raj’s brand value and ofcourse a decent star cast will help it swell well at Multiplexes and A centers, however the real test comes next week coz May 4th arrives SPIDERMAN. So is the spidey enough challange to TRP, going by Indore’s multiplexes feeling it surely will.

“Spiderman 3 has had more school block bookings enquiry compared to TRP” says Yashvir Bindal of Velocity Multiplexes and Adlabs have gone ahead to schedule a preview show for Spiderman3 on May 3rd.

It was predicted that the World Cup will surely affect the Indian movie industry’s boxoffice revenues. In the last world cup the matches were during the day streching to prime time and India’s heavy progress till the Final ensured that March-April 2003 period turns red for the Bollywood.

However 2007  World Cup has different setting. The matches start @ 7pm and go on till 4 in the morning. So a definite loss of slot for the exhibitors for their evening shows. Now considering the amount of multiplexes that have risen over the period of last 4 years. Just to point out in this case we had 44 multiplexes concentrated in 5 cities in 2003 and today we have 110 multiplexes spread over 12 major cities.

The reason why this World Cup will hurt more to the Multiplex across the board, is due to the fact the matches cut in to their evening shows which are of hyped up ticket prices. NG got in touch with Mr. Bindal of Velocity Multiplex to have a point of view

“We are having 5-15% collections on all shows in evening since past week and 4 of our shows got cancelled due to the India-Bangladesh match on 17th Mar 07. Its a loss since our tickets are priced at Rs.100-120 for evening shows.”

Now this is an event film.

His empire extended beyond boundaries of Afghanistan to the shores of Bay of Bengal. Himalayan Mughal culture to the banks of Godavari in South. He was Akbar, the emperor who throned himself for a period of 25 years. Set in 16th Century, Jodha Akbar talks about the political alliance i.e. between Akbar and the Rajputs, who were the most belligerent Hindu rulers.

Through a shrewd blend of tolerance, generosity and force, Akbar won the allegiance of the Rajputs who were the most belligerent Hindus. But little did Akbar know that when he married Jodhaa, a fiery Rajput princess, in order to further strengthen his relations with the Rajputs, he would in turn be embarking upon a new journey - the journey of true love.

The daughter of King Bharmal of Amer, Jodhaa resented being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage of alliance, and Akbar’s biggest challenge now did not merely lie in winning battles, but in winning the love of Jodhaa - a love hidden deep below resentment and extreme prejudice.

Jodhaa Akbar is their untold love story.

You can’t have 21st century icons smelling of decadent, putrescent stardom and proudly declaiming that the world revolves only around them. You can’t have a really big star ingeniously pushing each of his personal affairs into the public realm and expecting you to sympathize with his million woes. You can’t have another star jabbing at his predecessor because he is so full of himself and because he firmly believes he is the best. Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan are oversized dinosaurs. They dominate the Indian mindscape because the idol-starved nation will not let go off the Jurassic Age.

The decade of the larger-than-life angry young man was dead and buried in the Eighties. Amitabh Bachchan has since survived with some powerful acting in unconventional roles and a carefully acquired television persona. He is a star in his own right. He has delivered hits with the uncanny regularity of a news-hawker distributing morning papers. He has enticed directors into creating roles tailor-made for his age and wrinkled face. He has rivaled his son’s foray into multi-faceted acting with scintillating portrayals of new millennium characters like Sexy Sam. He has continued to attract a fanatic following and often-unwarranted tax raids.

Boxoffice collections is a serious business for some. For Gitesh Pandya it has been THE thing since past 10 years. As  boxoffice website Boxofficeguru has its 10th anniversary we got in touch with the man behind it.

He is the producer of the film “American Desi” and runs a widely popular boxoffice website “Boxofficeguru”. He got in touch with Naachgaana and and was happy enough to answer a few questions. Follows….

There are many virtues in life which makes your life meaningful.   These virtues help you to draft your course of action.  The meaning of virtue is not limited to modern day values. The virtues in fact will help you to grow your qualities, focus your activities and stick till the end.   When Duty is the virtue, the person becomes a slave for duty and without duty there is no life for him.    They believe, “Do your duty - that is your beauty.”         Khsathriyas are known for their dedication to work.     Duty is the virtue and its morality is the subject the film Ekalavya is talking all about.
The story is narrated in a king/queen background where it is evident that it is in the modern India the story is happening.   Somewhere in Rajastan…The queen (Sharmila Tagore) is in her death bed.   The king (Boman Irani) is sitting by her side and singing her favourite sonnets.   The queen’s last wish was to call Eklavya (Amitab Bachchan) the royal guard.     The King envying Eklavya and kills the queen.   Their daughter is an eye witness to this but she is considered as mentally ill.     Prince Yashwardan was called by the king arrives in a helicopter to do the funeral of his mother.   The queen had a secret - which connects Eklavya  to her children.   The King was not blessed with children and they went to pilgrimage to see Sanyasis where he allowed only Eklavya to assist her.       Eventually the secret is revealed to the prince through a letter from his mother and she has asked her to protect his father.   The King is planning to Kill Eklavya.   His brother Jyothiwardan (Jackie Shroff) was assigned to kill Eklavya where Jyothiwardan’s son Udaywardan is also have serious ambitions.   Rajjo (Vidya Balan) plays the love interest of the prince and Raima Sen plays the role of mentally sick princess.     Pannalal Chohaar (Sanjay Dutt) is from a low class family but become Police officer with his will and he hold a respect to Eklavya.   He is a perfect Munnabhai and no Gandhigiri this time.     The scene is set for the murder attempt and the suspense.   The story tries to redefine the definitions of royalty and duty.

Eklavya is a fine attempt to tell about the virtue of duty and the changes in its concept with time.     There are many breath-taking scense one can wonder and enjoy.   The director stick to the seriousness of the subject and didn’t bent an inch to commercialise it.     It is not the film for those who are looking for light entertainers, but who loves serious cinema.
Amitab Bachchan delivers yet another fine performance where Saif Ali Khan once again proves that he is of class material.     Sanjay Dutt in his limited role tries to make some laugh and he succeeded at the end with a bang.     Vidya Balan has a comparatively small role and she did it neatly.   Raima Sen did her small role in style.     Boman Irani and Jackie Shroff showed their class and need special mention.     Jimmy Shergill throws a villain look, but looks good.     No need to mention Sharmila Tagore did her small role with perfection.   Overall everybody delivered the best and the director has selected best available stars to suit the roles.   It is nice to see the perfect execution of actors through out a film.
Cinematography is one department where the film excels .   Vidhu Vinod Chopras are known for their technical brilliance and they prove it yet again.   Red is the selected colour and when the light and darkness mix with wonderfully built- in sets it is a visual treat.   There are some extra brilliant shots in the film and one can visit the cinema hall to see those scenes at least if not for anything else.

Great!! after Bhagam Bhaag, Guru is my 2nd movie where in i would making a trendline prediction on the basis of the sample data. Please note that Sample comes across from multiplexes across 15 cities.

Now to crux of the matter. Guru is coming up with surprising results, i presumed it to be a super starter in South and Mumbai region so South is doing great, i surely mean it. Mumbai is seriously mediocre to avg. but Guru is doing decently in PVR’s strong hold Delhi -NCR region, which is actually surprising. However Gujarat which should normally perform better having a Gujju personality involved is just doing above avg. It’s a mixed bag of sorts and lets give some nos to you.

I have predicted on the basis of many factors i.e. no. of shows, the size of the screening outlets plus if the shows are lesser the concentration is on first show on 12th, it will give us a trendline of things to come.

January 8th, 2007

The initial prediction of Bhagam Bhaag opening from my side analyzing Advance booking status from Multiplexes across India came out to be 73%, so from near about 85 screen outlets spread across 10 cities the trend more or less came closer to the actual opening which was 68%. Bhagam Bhaag was never a washout kind of film, it opened normally at 65%, improved midway to 90% and then stabilized to 55% throughout the week.

21.45 crores in 1 week puts it tad above Fanaa and just below Don in all time opening record holders and i think by the current trend in terms of opening nos. there are 4 stars that can be termed as big league SRK, Aamir, Hrithik, Akshay Kumar and Sanju Baba. Salman is the one who has lost a little sheen if you consider the changing dynamics of 2006.

Those were just openings and if you consider overall film’s performance helping the stars then Shahid can be added to the list above.

Bhagam Bhaag in the week 2 dropped 45% and comparing it to other biggies like Krissh, PHP, Fanaa, Don, LRM it might be on little lower side but having said that, its good for a film that released in the last part of December and had to face lull like 31st and 1st of Jan, you expect things to fall. So overall i guess the investors would be satisfied with 45% drop.

Well currently the Best Foreign Language film race has our RDB at No.6, now i was hoping if we can give in few more votes to it to get it in Top 5. Somehow IMDB’s listing might affect the academy’s choices, lets see.

VOTE now!!

By IFM news bureau..ofcourse :).

A train pulls into C.S.T. station and two young men step off. It’s their very first visit to Mumbai city. Only they are not here to visit. They have arrived with dreams of buying Mumbai out.

Poor deluded fools, you might think… but that’s only till the first time you run into them. After that, it’ll be clear enough who’s deluded and who has just been made the fool.

For this is a pair of street toughs par excellence… Jai, the younger of the two looks up to Veeru for guidance. Veeru in turn looks out for him. The pair’s loyalty to one another is absolute.

Virendra Chavan (Ajay Devgan) and Jai Ranade (Prashant Raj) grew up in Latur together, where they came to be known to their town folk as Veeru & Jai. From their early days, the young men admired success and strength and sought in every which way to emulate it.

Well is this taking a small thing too far or am i pointing to something quite evident. In the recent Kabul Express review of his Taran Adarsh as usually paying his homage to Yashraj and giving a safe review overall (which is quite usual of him). He made a statement in which he mentions “Naachgaana” in italics, is he pointing at NG. The discussion, the filmy junoon and passion shared on NG is virtually unparalleled and not even Ifm can match that honestly, struggling with its i hate this actor and i love this actor forum.

The line is question is “Kabul Express has no cheap naach-gaana kind of entertainment”. Well as i said i am not sure about this, but if it is then NG is doing very well then just well IMO :).

Lage Raho Munnabhai has comepleted 100 successful days in Adlabs Indore, From Sep 1 till 10th December 2006. The movie has ran nonstop with last month being limited to 2 shows mainly 11.45, 9.45. The overall collections has been splendid and the 100th day first show took in a collection of 45%.

Special feature related to the movie including interviews and extra scenes were shown to the audience. I was surprised to find a full house in the 9.45 show this Sunday. I went into watch World Trade Center but finally just juggled my mind to see LRM for the 7th time in theatres of course ;).

Lage Raho!! for that :).

Baabul has faced mixed to boring to pathetic reactions from Indore audience and it speaks for the no. of shows that are running around in the theaters. Velocity which is still running 10 shows for D2 went on to reduce 6 shows of Baabul to 4 from Monday.
