Life sometimes amazes me. A bunch of small random unrelated events can lead to something simply unreal to what one of my buddies calls the greatest story to tell at a bar.

Mumbai, Oct 01: So, it was not only Abhishek’s lady love Aishwarya who hurried her way to ‘Drona’s premiere, Bollywood’s ‘Baadshah’ Shah Rukh Khan along with wife Gauri also graced the red carpet at the sparkling venue.
World’s most beautiful woman Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dazzled in black, sporting her ever so contagious smile and clinging on to hubby and the star of the flick, Abhishek.
‘Drona’ features Abhishek Bachchan in a super-hero character and the movie could be his second solo hit after the 2007 release ‘Guru’. Alongside Abhishek, the movie features Priyanka Chopra as Drona’s love bird and bodyguard, Sonia; Kay Kay Menon in a devilish role of Riz Raizada and Jaya Bachchan as Queen Jayati, the mother of ‘Drona’.

We were the first to tell you that Shah Rukh Khan will be paying a tribute to five yesteryear superstars in a 12-minute-long special song in Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. And to make the song bigger, Aditya Chopra has decided to include four top actresses to join Shah Rukh in the song.
After Kajol who was the first actress to be finalised to be part of the ambitious song, Aditya Chopra has also signed Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra for the song. The actresses will pay a tribute to yesteryear actresses like Nargis, Sharmila Tagore, Waheeda Rehman and others.
A source said, “Aditya had already recorded the song some months ago with Sonu Nigam. In the song, Shah Rukh Khan pays a tribute to actors like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Rishi Kapoor. And the song will pay not only pay a tribute to the yesteryear actors and actresses but also famous singers. Sonu, who has sung the song, has paid a tribute to legendary singers like Mukesh, Rafi and Jolly Mukherjee.”

All NG members are requested to put up all the critic’s reviews of “Welcome to Sajjanpur”, “Saas Bahu Aur Sensex” and “Hulla” in this one thread instead of posting them on separate/individual thread. Thanks!
DNA’s review of Welcome to Sajjanpur
INDIAFM’s (Taran Adarsh) reviews :

Neeraj Shridhar’s buoyant vocals, rapper Indee’s (surprisingly credited!) bloody catchy hook and Pritam’s overall arrangements make Aai paapi (Tu hai meri soniye) absolutely scintillating. This is one heck of an exuberant track! Bakhuda tumhi ho too works big time - Atif’s magical vocals at work beautifully here, along with Alka Yagnik’s, besides the soulful tune Pritam cooks up. But Move your body is mundane while Is this love is plain routine. So is guest composers Sajid Wajid’s assembly line Soniye ve. But make no mistake – Kismat Konnection’s soundtrack makes the cut just for the first two tracks! Rock on, Pritam!

The principals of DreamWorks SKG are close to a deal with one of India’s biggest entertainment conglomerates to form a new movie venture, according to people familiar with the situation, a move that would give director Steven Spielberg the cash to finance his DreamWorks team’s departure from Viacom Inc.’s Paramount Pictures later this year.
Movie moguls Jeffrey Katzenberg, left, and Steven Spielberg watch the NBA finals last week. Mr. Spielberg’s DreamWorks SKG is in talks with Reliance, a move that would give the director the cash to regain his independence.
Mumbai-based Reliance ADA Group would provide Mr. Spielberg and company with $500 million to $600 million in equity, moving them one step closer to ending one of Hollywood’s most contentious and closely watched battles. In Reliance, the DreamWorks team also would have an unusual and ambitious partner in the film business: an Indian firm with interests in telecommunications, financial services and entertainment that wants to build a media empire by financing Hollywood pictures.

This famous Bollywood rivalry is going to new shores now. After face-offs over popularity in films and on telly, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan now seem to going head-to-head on world tours.
While Amitabh Bachchan’s Unforgettables tour – which will also have Abhiash, Preity Zinta, Riteish Deshmukh, Madhuri Dixit and Akshay Kumar – kickstarts on July 18 in Toronto, Shah Rukh has decided to begin his own Temptations Reloaded tour on June 21 at Amsterdam.
This means the rivalry between the two most powerful Bollywood stars will now go global and with big stars from the industry joining either side, it is now to be seen which tour is able to garner more popularity.

BOLLYWOOD: The Aamir Khan- Kareena Kapoor starrer might include various rural in novations discovered by Anil Gupta, IIM-A professor and founder of the NGO SRISTI.
Innovations have a strange way of getting recognised. Not just venture capitalists and angel investors, even Bollywood is going gaga over the rural innovations that have been documented by a professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
The much-awaited Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Idiot’, which is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, might include various rural innovations discovered by Anil Gupta, professor at IIM-A and the founder of a non-government organisation called Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI).

The much-hyped Sarkar Raj is about to complete one week at the marquee. The jury is still out on whether RGV’s ‘comeback flick’ is a hit or a flop. Sarkar Raj has a slew of pluses, the entire Bachchan family, a well-oiled publicity machine and no big releases to contend with. So what’s wrong with Sarkar Raj?
Some reports say multiplexes recorded 50% occupancy on opening day. But ET.com reader Jitaditya from Delhi says “I watched it on a Friday evening and it was almost 100% occupied. Another reader, Guru, from the US says, “The Friday show was full even in Phoenix, Arizona. We couldn’t get a ticket because the show was full. I strongly feels this movie will be a super hit.”
Others express big disappointment and one reader even compares Sarkar Raj to the dismal Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag. Did expectations from the combined Bachchan clan fail to reach its peak? Was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the best choice to play the ruthless businesswoman with a golden heart?

NEW DELHI: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan was moved to tears when noted director and family friend Karan Johar praised his performance in “Sarkar Raj” during the premiere held at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Bangkok.
“When he (Karan) came out of the theatre after the premiere he said something that moved me to tears. He bent down and touched my feet and then said, ‘I just want to remain here at your feet after seeing your performance.’
“I quickly pulled him up, as I always do and embraced him for long,” Amitabh wrote in his latest blog entry.

Sarkar Raj has opened to mixed responses. Comment.
People are supreme. Their verdict will always remain our guideline and inspiration. However, we had a premiere in Bangkok where industry stalwarts, trade analysts, stars and audience – both local and from India – watched the film and expressed their appreciation.
The messages coming in from different parts of the country and abroad have been ecstatic too. People have been unanimous – the sequel is far superior to Sarkar. And at the very crowded press conference after the premiere, the media broke into applause as the cast and Ram Gopal Varma walked into the venue. I have never, in my entire career of 40 years, ever experienced such a reaction from the media. I wish to thank them for this encouragement and for their spontaneous reaction. And also for the gracious messages sent to me and the director and cast from several prominent media personalities.
The film mixes politics with the theme of family values in an uneasy clasp. How comfortable were you in embracing that mix?

It has been a decisive victory for the BJP in Karnataka. It has become the single largest party with 110 seats and has also cornered a vote share of 33.8 per cent, up 5.3 per cent from 2004. But even as a toast is being raised for the BJP, the revelers need to be reminded that the party is three seats short of a simple majority.
It is largely being suggested that out of the six independent candidates who have won, getting three to support the BJP is not going to be a problem, but, for the record, out of the six independents who have won, four are Congress rebels (Kolar, Malavalli, Pavagada, Hiriyur), one JD(S) rebel (Hosadurga) and one BJP rebel (Kalghatgi). What means and method the BJP will employ to woo any of the three will be a curious thing to watch in the run up to government-formation. In recent electoral history wafer thin margins of one or two seats has played havoc in the Goa, Jharkand, and Meghalagya. So, the major question is: how stable will the BJP government be? Stability was one of the important planks on which this election was fought.

Aamir Khan’s Ghajini to clash with SRK’s Rab Ne Banaa Di Jodi
Aamir Khan’s long-in-the-making Ghajini has now been further pushed back by two months. The film was initially supposed to hit cinemas by October 3 but will now release on December 12, the same date as Aditya Chopra’s much talked about Rab Ne Banaa Di Jodi, which stars Shah Rukh Khan.
An industry insider reveals, “Aamir Khan’s film has been in the making for over two years now. But it’s far from being complete. Aamir has only recently shaved his head off for the film but he couldn’t complete the schedule as he pulled his hamstring during shooting and was advised complete bed rest for five weeks, which added to the delay. Initially, the film was to be make it to theatres by October and clash with Salman Khan’s Wanted Dead Or Alive. But now because of the delay, the film has finally been pushed to December 12 where Aamir will clash with another Khan: Shah Rukh Khan in Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Banaa Di Jodi.”

At last, Kajol has agreed to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in buddy Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan

Kareena Kapoor can put her hopes of being cast in My Name Is Khan to complete rest. For finally Karan Johar’s first choice Kajol has agreed to do the film. Kajol gave the nod to the project on Thursday.
A source close to Kajol’s husband, Ajay Devgan, tells us, “Kajol indeed took a long time to take a call on her participation in Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan, but the problem was that she had not heard the script in detail. This week, she took a long look at the script and finally said ‘yes’.”

Vishal Bhardwaj is certainly the one for original titles. His latest film which is not inspired by any Shakespearean play is titled Kaminay. Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapur will star in the film.
Bhardwaj, who is acclaimed for adaptations including Maqbool which is heavily inspired by Macbeth and Omkara by Othello, is all geared up to shoot Kaminay.

King Khan is unfazed by Aamir’s doggy dig
The battle of the blogs just intensified with Aamir Khan proclaiming that he has a dog called Shah Rukh.

Its four in the afternoon and Shah Rukh Khan is on the sets of Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? The clock is running. The audiences are in their seats and minutes before “Action,” SRK is playing basketball with the five kids from the show.
Siddharth Basu walks in, with some last- minute instructions for the bacchas, who listen intently.
Shortly after, the group takes their places under the lights. An hour later, they break shoot and we head to SRK’s make-up room.

After Shatrughan Sinha, director Salim Khan, father of actor Salman Khan has hit out at bollywood’s superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Speaking to a Marathi newspaper, Salim Khan lambasted Amitabh Bachchan, questioning his decisons on several issues. But most personal part of his attack is what can be described as the worst criticism that Amitabh Bachchan has heard in a while.
Salim Khan has gone to the extent of suggesting that Bachchan is considered intelligent only because of his ability to speak English well.
Lashing out at Amitabh Bachchan for the advertisement that he did for Uttar Pradesh, Salim Khan said, “‘UP me dam..kyunki yahan zurm he kam’ - I want to ask Mr Bachachan whether the crime rate in UP is low or is it on a all time high?”
Responding to Salim Khan’s critisism, Amitabh Bachchan said, “I was not paid for the ad. I did the ad and the facts were given by the central government.”

In November 2006, Dhoom-II from Yash Raj Films got off to a bumper opening. Since then, most films churned out by the banner have been taking a beating at the turnstiles, except for Chak De India, and to some extent, Ta Ra Rum Pum. Most have failed to get even a decent opening.
All that was expected to change with their latest offering, Tashan. an ensemble star-cast which has been making all the right noises, attractive promos and a strong pre-release buzz were all signalling a good start.
However, reports from around the country are pointing towards a discouraging show, say experts. “It’s one of the weakest films coming from them,” says Taran Adarsh, editor, Trade Guide. “The film has got no opening and the feedback from those who have seen the film is very bad.”
If poor reviews and stiff competition from Indian Premier League (IPL) matches weren’t worry enough, the Chopras hit another snag— they have not been able to strike a deal with major multiplexes so far. “There is no compromise so far,” said film expert Vinod Mirani.

Did Yash Chopra gives son Adi an earful over the mishandling of Tashan?
Sandipan Dalal
Bollywood’s most powerful film family is divided over some recent business and creative decisions. Till recently whatever Yashraj Films touched, turned to gold, and the man credited with the Midas touch was the all-powerful Aditya Chopra. However, following last year’s debacle of several of the films greenlighted by him - Tara Rum Pum, Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag, Aaja Nachle - differences began showing up between Adi and the patriarch Yash Chopra.
For all practical and public purposes however the family kept a united front. But this week’s debacle of Tashan, one of the bigger Yashraj releases this year, once again brought into open the conflict father and son have over how things are managed at the YRF Studios. Our sources say that Yash Chopra, deeply disturbed by the way Tashan finally shaped up, and the breakdown of negotiations with multiplex owners which led to the film being released only in single-screen theatres, took his son to task and even threatened to take charge of how the studio was run.

Tashan will not release in multiplexes
Yash Raj Films Tashan will not be releasing in any of the multiplexes. The talks failed on Thursday afternoon and all the multiplex chains of Cinemax, Adlabs, Inox, PVR, Fame, Fun Cinemas and Movietime refused to sign an agreement with Yash Raj to screen Tashan, which releases today.
Although Yash Raj Films and the multiplexes had come to a settlement earlier this week for the percentage ratio of for the first four weeks (50:50, 45:55, 40:60 and 30:70) for Bombay city, they could not reach a mutual agreement for cities outside Mumbai. The multiplexes were not keen to give 55 per cent for the first week which Yash Raj demanded for cites outside Mumbai. As a result of this dispute over the percentage outside Mumbai, Tashan will not be released in any of the multiplexes.
Sanjeev Kohli, director & CEO Yash Raj Films says, “YRF has not asked the multiplexes for any incremental terms for those concluded for last year. The terms being discussed are the same as those agreed upon for our films, which released last year. As done in the past, YRF will compensate the multiplexes in the event that a film does not perform according to their expectations; we have done the same last year too.”
Earlier too Yash Raj’s Dhoom was not released in multiplexes and recently Welcome, Jodhaa Akbar and Tare Zameen Par faced a similar problem and missed the first day collections. But a compromise was made on the second day. Can YRF hope the same for Tashan too?

Mumbai: Post the Abhi-Ash wedding, the Bachchan family will be seen together for the first time on big screen in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj, the sequel to Sarkar.
Presenting the first look of the new film on Sunday, Varma had only one response to his last two duds with the Big B. “I am sorry Amitji,” he apologised for Nishabd and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.
Fortunately for Varma, Bachchan was in a forgiving mood.

The focus on AbhiAsh’s first shaadi ki saalgirah rather than the Sarkar sequel leaves him miffed
Ram Gopal Varma may not express his displeasure verbally but the truth is the director wasn’t too thrilled with the way the Sarkar Raj event was conducted on Sunday night.
Ramu sent out invites to unveil the first look of his film starring the Bachchans (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya). He, however, was miffed when complete attention was given to AbhiAsh’s first wedding anniversary on the same day.

Yesterday, on the front page of this newspaper we carried a story about Malaika Arora splitting up with her husband Arbaaz Khan. We were told by none other than Malaika herself that her husband was “remarrying”.
There were many reasons why we thought the story deserved front-page treatment: Malaika Arora is a huge pin-up star and Arbaaz is a celebrity in his own right, and comes from one of film industry’s most-respected families. In an environment where celebrity unions crumble faster than cookies the two, who have been married for 10 years and are parents of a five-year-old boy, offered a great example of a happy family unit in the face of relentless public scrutiny.
John Updike defined celebrity as a mask that eats into your face. Apparently it also chews up your integrity. It turns out that our story was false. Not for want of journalistic rigour on our part–the reporter did what any journalist sould do on receiving a tip-off– he called up both Malaika and Arbaaz for their versions. Both, through commission and omission, lied brazenly to the reporter.

The two are set to feature in a skin cream advertisement soon
It’s time for a reality check - publicity gimmicks are slowly replacing hardcore news stories.
Contrary to reports, the marriage of Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora is still going strong and the story is just a publicity gimmick for a skin cream advertisement.
Said a source close to the couple, “It’s a publicity gimmick. The split rumors are from a skin cream advertisement, which Malaika and Arbaaz will be endorsing together.”

It was Big B who insisted that bahurani ASH be with son Abhishek for their first wedding anniversary in Miami and that the media should be a part of the celebrations
The media fraternity was maha miffed with the Bachchans when they were treated rather not so nicely during the Abhi-Ash wedding. Perhaps on hindsight, even Amitabh Bachchan realised that they should have been a little more media friendly, and perhaps the newly-wedded couple should have given at least a photo opportunity for the eagerly waiting media members.
Looks like it’s time for making up and what better time when the couple’s first wedding anniversary is coming up coinciding with the upcoming release of the trio’s first film Sarkar Raj after marriage (Kajrare was just a sneak peak). It was Pa Bachchan’s brainwave that daughter-in-law Aishwarya should travel to Miami (where Abhishek Bachchan is shooting for Dostana) to be with her pati and that the media should be privy to their celebrations, timing it well with the music launch of Sarkar Raj!
Big B, who is extremely techno savvy, has set up the whole video conferencing bit where Ash and Abhi will be talking to the media through the video on their wedding anniversary.
