Wearing a bikini is hardly an image makeover-Sonal Chauhan

Trailers of her upcoming film, 3G, show Sonal Chauhan oozing oomph in a red bikini — a stark contrast to her girl-next-door image in her debut film Jannat (2008). So what has prompted this transformation? She says, “In this industry, the minute an actress dons a bikini, it’s seen as an image makeover. But I don’t see it like that. My character is confident, a fire-cracker and very sexy.”
She adds, “When I’m on a beach on a personal holiday, I’ve always worn a bikini. But this was on the big screen, so obviously there was some pressure. They wanted a toned yet curvy look; not skin and bones. So I had to work on muscle definition and also had to put on some weight.” A foodie to the core, Sonal had to let go her chocolate craving. Says the actress, “For two months, I had to change my diet and include more protein, fresh fruit and salad. I’m very happy with the results.”
Sonal is also upbeat about her singing debut in 3G; she has lent her voice for the song Kaise Bataoon. “My directors heard me singing the song on set one day as I was learning the lyrics for the shoot. A month after we came back from shoot, Mithoon (the composer) told me they couldn’t find the right voice and instead wanted me to sing. Initially, I thought he was joking, but once I realised he was serious, I agreed. Nervous is an understatement… I was very scared,” she says.
When asked about her future projects, the actress says, “This is a really exciting time because the work I am doing challenges me everyday. But I’ll leave all official announcements to the filmmakers and just enjoy the speculation right now.”
