How did your part in Special 26 come about?My very first reading of the script totally bowled me over. It is based on the real life story of the Mumbai Opera House heist which took place in 1987 in India, where 26 conmen posed as Central Bureau of Investigation officers on a raid and walked away with jewellery worth millions of rupees. It was one of the biggest cons in Indian history.
Can you tell us about your role in Special 26?
My role is of a common man and tells the story of how his life is literally shaken up by a series of events that lead him to become a conman. Special 26 is a film very close to me, as it gave me the opportunity to reinvent myself yet again as an actor.
How authentic is the film?
Directors such as Neeraj Pandey of A Wednesday fame really do their homework before they embark on a film project. It took him almost three years to put the script together for Special 26. He conducted thorough research into the incident in order to ensure that the film was as authentic as possible.
Tell us about your co-stars…
I have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Anupam Kher in Special 26. This gave me the opportunity to learn so much, as they are very esteemed performers. With them, I felt like a complete beginner. My leading lady Kajal Aggarwal, Manoj and Anupamji and I are what I call the ‘awesome foursome’, and we’ve been enjoying our promotional tour for this film.
How did your singing Mujh mein tu come about?
I sang the title song for the spiritual album Nirgun Raakh Liya a few years ago, but I know the limits of my singing talent. I was so in love with this song after listening to it for so long in my car that I was familiar with the tune. But it was a task in itself, and when I went into the recording studio for the first time, I was literally cursing myself as to why I agreed to sing this track. One day, Neeraj heard me humming it on the set and asked if I wanted to sing it, so I said why not, let’s give it a try. I always like a challenge. After recording the track my director and I heard it and we both liked it. I’ve dedicated it to my beautiful wife Twinkle. I just felt in my heart that I’d really appreciate a chance to bring in a little bit of me to a song that I like a lot. It’s garnered a surprisingly positive response.
Why should people go and watch Special 26?
Special 26 is definitely an entertaining story and I am sure the film will appeal to the masses. It also has a strong moral message. The public need to be particularly alert, so that they never find themselves in a situation where they have been conned or taken for a ride. Also, it has a family rating, so it can be seen by all. It is a special film for me.

“There was a phase when I did certain films for financial security, others to help establish myself. Yes that’s right, the action in Boss will be my best till date. I just thank God that I am quite fit, despite the wear and tear.The wear and tear doesn’t show…

@Danish…agree and hence these tweets should not be taken on face value.
My assessment is that the buzz for this movie is slightly more than OMG and that S26 will open slow…rest if the content is good, Akshay will make it super hit.
When he does movies like Joker, his risk taking for S26 or Tasveer kind of films become questionable…thought these risks are worth taking otherwise. -

A. Ek Thi Daayan is good but films like Nautanki Saala are about after release and word of mouth as they don’t interest the public until the word goes around they are worth a watch.

A. The opening may not be strong but if the film has decent content it can do very well as there is not a strong line up of releases until Himmatwala in late March. So Special Chabbis can potentially have a good run for 5-6 weeks at it does not face any big opening films. Basically the film has a good release timing and has the time to score even if opening is not that good.

0 0Danish, Opening of a commercial and genre based star like Akshay for a non commercial film will always be a problem. He is No2 and not No 1 partly because of this.
I am sure Akshay knew about slow opening of OMG before producing the film and then starring in it. However another fact about superstar is that if the WOM is good then they can convert hit into super hit and super hit into blockbuster. This is what happened with OMG which went on to nett close to Rs 80 Cr and was amongst the most profitable movie of 2012. This would not have happened had Akshay not starred in it.
Aamir is the only star who can assure at least a good opening in any genre. But does that make him No 1…..No. But does that make him trustworthy…YES! If only he did half as many movies that Akshay or Salman or Ajay are doing….even the recent mega success of Salman could not have dislodged him from No 1 then.-

since none of the other guys have it – salman is no 1, was no 1 and will always be no 1.

On a serious note, a 6 cr. opening day will be difficult for special 26.

0 0I loved A Wednesday and had high hopes from Special 26 but came away disappointed. It is not a bad film but could have been so much better. My rating is 2.5/5.

0 0Special 26 Saturday Collection. Early Estimates.
Special 26 has shown big growth in Saturday business. It is registering huge occupancy of 60-70%+ in Evening shows at the box office. Special 26 started decently on Saturday Morning with occupancy of 35-40% on average, better than Friday. Noon shows sustained well after that with occupancy of 40-50%. But from evening onwards occupancy has just skyrocketed upwards.
Many major plexes are reporting sold out or near about sold out shows for the evening shows. Advance booking report for the rest of the day is also very good. Infact in many places occupancy of night shows shoule be bigger than evening shows. This is just great news for the makers.
Special 26 collected around 7 crore nett on first day which is just decent. But with growth showing on Saturday it should collect in the range of 9-10 crore nett, if all goes well. Special 26 two day total is now heading for 16 crore nett mark or even more. Good jump on Saturday means it is well accepted and might show greater jump on Sunday also.
