12 Films This Friday; Why This Hara-Kiri?
12 FILMS THIS FRIDAY…WHY THIS HARA-KIRI?
The first over-crowded Friday is here! Tomorrow, February 1, will see the release of almost 5 Hindi films. If one takes into account the Hollywood, Gujarati and Marathi movies, the number goes upto mind-boggling 12! Half of them are being released without any buzz whatsoever, shockingly! My views on the Bollywood films:
DAVID: The best bet of the week. It’s directed by Bejoy Nambiar, who showed his brilliance with Shaitan. The film deals with three eras and three characters (played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vikram and Vinay Virmani) all named David. All three look fabulous. Neil is happening and his track will be presented in black and white. Monica Dogra (of Dhobi Ghat fame) is also in his story while Tabu and Isha Sharvani features in Vikram’s track. Vinay, last seen in Speedy Singhs, is a revelation. Dama Dam Mast Kalandar seems rocking and great to see Bejoy opting for someone like Sarika over a scantily clad ‘item girl’! The promo generated excitement but buzz hasn’t been significiant. Good word of mouth can attract many moviegoers.
DEEWANA MAIN DEEWANA: Govinda-Priyanka Chopra’s long delayed film Deewana Main Deewana seems forgettable from the trailers itself and no chance that the film will sustain even for the first three days.
VISHWAROOP: The Hindi version of Kamal Haasan’s much in news Vishwaroopam, Vishwaroop, also hits theatres nationwide tomorrow. The response to the film has been fabulous and viewers too have got aware of this film hence, though the controversy has also played a part. It could easily be the surprise of the week, attracting more viewers than other releases.
MIDNIGHT’ CHILDREN: Deepa Mehta’s ambitious flick, Midnight’s Children, written by Salman Rushdie stars Soha Ali Khan, Satya Bhabha, Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Rajat Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Siddharth, Shahana Goswami, Darsheel Safary and many others. The over-crowding, high budget and poor reviews will unfortunately go against the film.
MAI: Asha Bhosle’s action debut seems like a sensitive watch from the promos. But film hasn’t been able to make a mark and is getting a limited release.
Meanwhile, Listen Amaya brings back the ultimate pair of Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval and promos indicate that it’s quite contemporary. As for The Unsound, no comments!
Hansel And Gretel Witch Hunters, Parker and Bullet To The Head are the Hollywood releases tomorrow while Atul Kulkarni-Sagarika Ghatge’s Marathi film Premachi Goshta and Amitabh Bachchan’s first Gujarati venture, Saptapadii (Manav Gohil, Swaroop Sampat) too gets a release tomorrow! Whew! Please note that the film of other languages are not taken into account!
It’s unfortunate that despite repeated instances, filmmakers go ahead and indulge in professional hara-kiri that spells doom for everyone involved. When will they learn?
WHICH FILM OUT OF THESE INTERESTS YOU MORE…DO LET ME KNOW!
