Dont want to make money out of sports: Akshay Kumar


Actor Akshay Kumar is a martial arts expert and believes that sports is beyond money for him.

Present at the Golf Premier League press meet here Friday, he said: “I am a sportsman first and then an actor. Everyone owns one team (in a sport), but I want to own all the sports. My father was a wrestler, not everyone knows that. For me sports is not a place where you make money.”

“I am here because the Pearls Group is going to enter many sports like kabaddi, cricket or hockey and wrestling. Don’t put that tag on me that I am here for money,” added the 44-year-old, who organises a karate championship annually.

Akshay further stated that it was his skill in martial arts that helped him get a break in films.

“I have been into sports since my childhood. My identity is because of that. I came to films because of martial arts. If someone gave my first film, it was not because of my acting talent, it was because my kick was good,” Akshay said.

“You won’t believe when I first came here (to Mumbai), I had not seen a camera. I kept on bringing sports again and again. Now I want to promote parkour and I do it in my ads,” he added.

Akshay’s initial films “Mr. Bond”, “Khiladi” , “Deedar”, “Waqt Hamara Hai” and many more were action flicks.

He turned towards comedy with “Hera Pheri” and he again made a comeback to action with “Rowdy Rathore” in 2012.

    That’s the way it shud be…..
    Sports shud be for passion for the country or the Game not for making money by commercializing it for making money like the way different Cricket Events are being done…..!!
    Like IPL has destroyed Indian Cricket and other Cricket event which is not giving anything to the game..!!

    if india won WC bcoz of IPL then how was india able to win T20 worldcup in 2007 before Ipl and not even one T20 WC(out of 3) after Ipl started in 2008..!!

    oh so IPL(T20 game) helps ODI while it doesnot benefit T20 matches itself…..that’s a logic can only KKR fan can give..!!

    BTW How many matches Indian team has won in Test cricket in last 2years..??
    give the answer u will know who is destroying Test cricket..!!

      Did u knew ajinkya rahane,yusuf pathan,ashok maneria,shekar dewan, without ipl
      Test cricket is not destroyed by ipl bt by players attitude
      Ipl has given young talents to play at highest pressurizing games though it has divertd some people’s mind
      Isn’t a movie made wit passion y dnt we take dat much amt spent much on movie and distribute profits as charity

        for ur knowledge
        India had 37 stadiums before IPL in 2008(now its 42)……out of which 14 were having world class facilities before IPL….
        Indian subcontinent got to host WC 2011 around 2003 worldcup…
        in 2006 BCCI had given HUGE-HUGE money to State associations to update stadiums to world class facility (just as other WC countries do)….so its not bcoz of IPL..!!

        have any one of them has beem in the team for more than 6months in the fray for Team India..it been 4 long years where are these.??

        what about T20international matches are they also destroyed by players attitude(look last 3 T20 WC record of india) ??
