Daily Archives: December 26, 2012
2012 saw a number of successful films, many of them breaching the Rs 100 crore mark. But the real success stories came wrapped in small budgets – high-concept films that surprised us all. So, whether Vicky Donor, Kahaani, Gangs Of Wasseypur or Barfi!… it was a profitable 12 months for producers, exhibitors and distributors. Before we ring in the New Year, we asked tradewallahs to name the top three films with the highest return on investment (ROI) in the domestic market.
Paan Singh Tomar which received critical acclaim was largely seen as a small niche film but it worked at the box office and ran for 7-8 weeks. The film is in top three collecting films of a sub Rs 5 crore cost of production of all time. The film was also the first digital release for India which means it didn’t have any physical prints. Rowdy Rathore the second biggest grosser of the year so far has beaten all expectations. A universal blockbuster where everyone associated with the film be it exhibitors, or distributors made money. Barfi! which emerged as the most loved film of the year, has set cash registers ringing for 10 weeks. The film collected 3.5 times of opening weekend which we have not seen with many films in this business.
Raja Sen on Bollywood’s Ten Best Actors Of 2012
2012 has been a very, very solid year for actors. We’ve had some sensational ensembles, and many films underscored by standout performances.
And yet, ironically enough, this is a list with only eight men, testimony to just how stunning one particular actor has been this year. And even he’s been bettered.
Thank you, gentlemen.
For creating and inhabiting characters we won’t forget.
Q. What is the word of mouth on Dabangg 2?

Q. Will Dabangg 2 beat Ek Tha Tiger and Three Idiots?
A. Three Idiots looks tough but the Ek Tha Tiger number is a possibility. At the moment it has a 50-50 chance to beat Ek Tha Tiger. Wednesday figures will give a better idea.

Salman Khan in a still from Dabangg 2 Movie
Here’s Dabangg 2?s Detailed Report (Domestic Box Office):
He is a hard man to miss, but Bandra police is having a tough time reaching superstar Salman Khan. Cops so far have been unable to serve court summons to the Bollywood actor in the 2002 hit-and-run case, and the local senior police inspector claims that the celeb is out of town. The assertion is difficult to digest because Salman was caught on camera attending a high-profile Christmas party in Bandra, and has also been shooting at Mehboob Studio.
On November 30, the magistrate’s court in Bandra issued show cause notice and summons to Salman Khan and Abhay Shastri – senior inspector of Bandra police station –, ordering them to remain present in court on December 27 –, which happens to be the actor’s birthday. On December 4, Santosh Daundkar, the petitioner in the case, presented both summons to Bandra cops, asking them to present the documents to Khan. Three weeks later, the summons are gathering dust at the police station.
