Back To The Camera Posters Are The Trend For 2013

December 25, 2012 |

It would seem that movie-goers don’t want our stars looking us in the eye anymore. We just want it quick, dirty, and, most importantly, from behind.

Earlier today we saw the release of the first poster for the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan-directed sci-fi thriller After Earth, but if you’ve been paying attention to the film world over the last few months you probably realized that the design is very similar to some other recently released posters for 2013 blockbusters. In fact, it almost seems that every movie that is set to debut next year is getting a different version of the same poster.

Don’t believe me? Well, let’s do some quick mental time travel all the way to late September when the folks over at Dreamworks Animation released this poster for The Croods:

Siddharth Anand’s official remake of the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight And Day just got more exciting. After roping in Hrithik Roshan to reprise Cruise’s role and getting Katrina Kaif on board to be the desi Diaz, the director has planned out an impressive itinerary for the shoot. The action thriller will be shot in Kashmir for over 40 days, making it one of the longest schedules in the valley in recent times (Yash Chopra shot Jab Tak Hai Jaan in Kashmir for 12 days). What’s more, the project has now been christened a catchy Bang Bang. “Knight And Day was a popular film worldwide and to arrive upon an equally appealing title for its Hindi remake wasn’t easy. Siddharth sat down with his team for several brainstorming sessions before they locked in on Bang Bang,” said a source. There is also speculation that the film title could also be a nod to Nancy Sinatra’s song by the same name which was cleverly used by Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill.

If everything falls in place, she will soon be seen romancing Salman Khan. Mirr o rlearnt that Diana will play the leading lady in Sohail Khan’s directorial project, tentatively titled Radhe.

A source said, “Sohail is busy preparing for the venture. The script is getting fine tuned every day and needs someone relatively fresh with an innocent face who could also display maturity of character.” And that’s why the filmmaker thought of Diana, who in her debut film pulled off the character of the sweet and emotional Meera with ease.

“Sohail got in touch with a common friend and initiated a meeting with Diana. The first chat went very well and they have been in touch since then. Diana likes the role and is now in advanced talks with the filmmaker. However, since its year-end right now and Sohail will also get busy with the New Year celebrations with his family, the final formalities will only take place at the beginning of the New Year,” the source added.

According to our source, the film is expected to go on floors in May 2013.

Boxoffice feeding and why Salman is hatke

December 25, 2012 | 20

Earlier to declare a movie a hit, First day, First weekend or first week business were not considered at all (as most of the A grade movies used to take 70-100& opening). Only after 3weeks (in the 90s) 5weeks(80s) 7-10 weeks (70s) and if the movie continue to trend and do well, then those film were called hits.

Some movies in these period find it difficult to collect the minimum amount (Minimum amount is the amount fixed by the exhibitors. If the movie fail to collect the minimum amount, the exhibitors had all right to discontinue the movie in their theatre) So the so called Stars started feeding the BO. Ie by purchasing the tickets in bulk. That means housefull boards outside and hardly 10-15% audience inside. This way they fooled public that movie is going strong. So naturally public came to check these movies thinking kuch toh baat hoga film mein and it helped the movie to sustain and boost the collection

Jeetendra was the man to introduce this. He used to spend 50% of his film remuneration for BO feeding. Later other stars followed. Dharam did it for just 2 movies. Shatrugna, Vinod Khanna, Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Anil kapoor (For Mr India and Judaai) Sunny deol (For London, Lootere, Barsaat), Govinda (for most of his films) SRK (For Anjaam, Chamatkar, RBGJ) Aamir (Hum hai rahi pyaar ke, Mela, Ghulam) Akshay Kumar (Aarzoo, MLTA, SBK. KKK) Suniel Shetty, Ajay Devgan all of them resorted to this barring handful of Stars like Amitabh, Salman, Sanjay dutt (But baba’s secretary Oberoi did it for 2 movies of Baba)

This practice was stopped after Ajay Devgan was caught red handed for doing it for Pyaar toh hona hi tha. The Chamber reprimanded him for doing so and it stopped gradually.

Bollywood’s 10 Best Actresses Of 2012

December 25, 2012 |

It’s been yet another mixed bag of a year for Hindi cinema, with some fine performances mired in poor films, and some fine films marred by weak actors at their centres.

As actresses go, however, it’s been a pretty good year, boasting of some very fine performances from some very talented women. Two come from the same film, and one even pops up twice.

Here, then, is the class of 2012. Give the ladies a hand.

10. Rani Mukerji, Talaash

Best Male and Female performers of 2012- My views.

December 25, 2012 | 10

2012 has been a fascinating year. Few films had unprecedented box office success as well as audience’s acceptance, while few films did not really set the box office on fire but surely placed themselves in hearts of audience. Here are my bests of 2012 performances.

Male –

5. Sharman Joshi in Ferrari Ki Sawaari- In this small little heart warming film, Sharman Joshi plays a very adorable father and a martinet son. He packs an excellent performance and he has instant connect too!

4. Aamir Khan in Talaash- As a confused and depressed cop, Aamir Khan shines once again in a role which has its own oxymoronic rhythm. There are many layers to his characters and Aamir conveys his emotions through right blend of expressions and diction. He is not a perfectionist for nothing!
