Cases against Bollywood personalities Salman Khan, Adnan Sami, Madhur Bhankarkar, Shiney Ahuja and family members of late Rajesh Khanna hogged the limelight during 2012 while hanging of terrorist Ajmal Kasab in a Pune jail marked culmination of the 26/11 trial.
The arrest of political cartoonist and a participant of reality show Bigg Boss season 6, Aseem Trivedi drew public attention. The high court came down heavily on police for arresting him on “frivolous grounds” and “without application of mind”. The court also granted him bail observing that police had “breached” his “freedom of speech and expression”. In a glittering event this year, the Bombay High Court celebrated the completion of 150 years of its building. (more…)

Most filmmakers who don’t have a big star to carry their films, spread rumours in the print media that a certain big name has been roped in by them. It’s silly because this is
a close-knit industry and the star finds out and ends up quite annoyed.
Recently, there was talk that Akshay Kumar would feature in the remake of Punjabi film Jatt & Juliet. Well, sources close to Kumar tell us the actor was never supposed to do the film and his name had been used as a bait to lure either a corporate house or an actor to show interest.
Well, we at Box Office India, are not going to feed the rumour mill and are keeping mum. But we will tell you when an actor established or otherwise, is roped in for this film.
After the success of A Wednesday, the perception of Neeraj Pandey changed overnight. He was accepted not only by the audience but also by tradewallahs and corporate houses. The question was: who would ask him to direct their next film? And the winners were Kumar Mangat and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures for the film Special 26.
The film is complete, its promotions have drawn a very positive response, and there’s a queue outside Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ doors as to acquire the distribution rights of the film. We’re told that Reliance Entertainment has offered ` 51 crore to clinch the India and international theatrical rights of the film while UTV Motion Pictures has sent feelers through the leading man of the film Akshay Kumar, saying they are also in the race.
With the film in great demand, Viacom 18 Motion Picture wants to release the movie themselves! Let’s see who will be the lucky one to distribute this film, which is sure to hit the jackpot!

Raja Natwarlal had poor collections on day one as it collected around 5 crore nett on day one. Mumbai circuit was a bit better as Gujarat and Saurashtra fared better and by far the best collections across India. It was a holiday in Maharashtra and Gujarat and that helped Mumbai circuit compared to rest of India but even with holiday Mumbai can not be called good. The rest of the country was poor with North and Central recording dull collections and also not showing that major jump in the evening shows which was needed.Read more...
Lyon (France): Internationally-renowned Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in as an ambassador for Interpol’s “Turn Back Crime” campaign to promote awareness on how everyone can play a role in preventing crime. Shah Rukh, said to be the first Indian to be made an ambassador for the global campaign, is lending his voice to help spread the message that all of society benefits when citizens respect law and fight crime. “It’s a very special honour to be a part of Interpol’s ‘Turn Back Crime’ campaign as an ambassador,” said Shah Rukh.Read more...
Before I go into my views about Ek Villain, I’d like to state that I am a huge fan of “I Saw the Devil (ISTD)” (on which Ek Villain is based) and I consider it a cinematic masterpiece. When I heard that Mohit Suri is making an Indian version of ISTD I was contrastively (9 out of 10 times I hate Indianized version of classics) quite glad and upbeat about it. Reason: From the very first time I watched ISTD, I have always felt that it has a very universal story and despite all the violence its core element: “The story of ultimate pain and suffering and confronting it” is applicable to almost every variety of people. What went unforgivably wrong in Ek Villain isRead more...
