MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’, directed by Reema Kagti, also featuring Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor has failed to garner the coveted Rs 100 crores at the domestic box office even after 12 days of being released.
‘Talaash’ hit screens on November 30. Even though this was no public holiday, the anticipation for the film was pretty high considering its an Aamir Khan starrer. Though the response to the 3 month pre-booking novel idea was lacklustre, the advance booking 4-5 days before the film’s released looked strong. But things didn’t quite turn out the way expected.
The opening day collection was fair to average. As we reported earlier, the first day business was of Rs 128 million (Rs 12.8 crore) net approximately. From there on, like an opened soda bottle loosing its fizz, it was all downhill. SEE REPORT

Talaash collected 15.50 crore nett in week two to take its two week total to 80 crore nett. the film fell 76% in week two.
The film should hold better this week as it is an open week and the big multiplexes have the same number of shows as week two. The two best circuits for the film will be Mumbai where it will cross 32 crore nett and Mysore where it will cross 8 crore nett.

A Munnabhai is a series because you took him, and placed him somewhere else. We wanted to take it (Chulbul Pandey) forward in the Rocky way
It was highlighted in this column last week that weekday collections were quite important to decide eventual fate of Khiladi 786. Since the film had received a nod of approval from a good chunk of target audience, it was prudent …
Salman Khan had mesmerized the audience with his innocent yet intellectual iconic character called Prem. Sooraj Barjatya gave him this image and now after years, the duo will be seen together.
In the year 2012, we have seen him playing macho roles full of action when asked if he will be seen in romantic roles again like he did in ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ etc, the actor promptly says, “Yes you will see me in Sooraj’s film.”
India’s most influential TV show Satyamev Jayate on Wednesday bagged the prestigious CNN-IBN Indian of The Year – Special Achievement Award 2012 for its path breaking initiative.
This accolade for Satyamev Jayate follows soon after recognition by the Government of India earlier this year. The National Commission had rewarded the show for Scheduled Castes for its efforts to create awareness against social discrimination in October.
Satyamev Jayate won the CNN-IBN ‘Indian of The Year’ award under Special Achievement category along with Olympian Mary Kom and missile scientist Dr. K.C. Thomas.
Star India CEO Uday Shankar and the Satyamev Jayate team were honoured for their remarkable contribution in highlighting several social ills that continue to plague modern India and to help create awareness against such evils through the pioneering TV program.

Arbaaz Khan has flexed his directorial muscles with Dabangg 2, or so he would want us to believe. In several interviews and interactions, both Salman Khan and Arbaaz have spoken eloquently about the film’s action sequences, evidently their pride and joy.

In August 2011, while millions of his fans prayed back home, Salman Khan underwent a surgery for trigeminal neuralgia in the United States of America. And after a five-hour long operation, and a few weeks of recuperation, the actor was back on the sets to shoot for the several projects that were lined up.
Though he had reportedly complained of ‘jaw pain’ on and off since then, Salman had been fit and fine. And now, Mirror has learnt that the actor is ready to visit US again. Come January, Salman will fly out of the country - this time for a regular health check up.
A source told Mirror, “Salman’s condition needs him to undergo regular check ups. It’s nothing serious. Just a routine follow up. He is fit and will start shooting Sohail’s film soon.”
Incidentally, last time when the actor visited US for a surgery, he had missed Ganpati (a festival celebrated with a lot of fanfare in the Khan household) and the premiere of his film Bodyguard. This time, we learnt he would be leaving for US on January 22 when the actor doesn’t have any film promotion, premiere or festival lined up.
There are Class Film, there are Mass Film and there are Salman Film. Ask any Exhibitor or Distributor about Salman Khan and they will say these words unanimously. He is a phenomenon and this phenomenon creates mass hysteria at the box office whenever his film releases. The man is synonymous to box office records from Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun days. But had a dismal time in mid 2000s and many had written him off then.
With court cases and mediocre projects in mid 2000s his stock at the box office was in doldrums. In between he might have given mega Hits in Tere Naam, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Partner, No Entry but Flops were escalating higher with each year. Then happened Wanted in 2009 and rest is history. He who started the single screen craze which was near about shut down.
So, how is the year 2012 for him. In 2012 he has two releases. One is Ek Tha Tiger which broken each record at the box office except the lifetime record of 3 Idiots by a whisker. Another is Dabangg 2 which is touted as a sure shot goldmine at the box office. He is having an amazing run from 2009 onwards. He has the highest grosser film in 2010 and 2011. And in all certainty 2012 is also going the same way. Salman Khan is sure shot to give Hattrick of Biggest grossers (Dabangg 2010, Bodyguard 2011, ETT/Dabangg 2 2012), which has never happened ever at the box office since pro Amitabh Bachchan stage.
Apart from this Salman has another two records in his kitty. First being, Maximum no. of highest grossing films since 1990s (Saajan 1991, Hum Aapke Hain Koun 1994, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 1998, Hum Saath Saath Hain 1999, No Entry 2005, Dabangg 2010, Bodyguard 2011). Second being highest no. of All Time Blockbuster among his contemporaries.
If Dabangg 2 beats the box office collection of Rowdy Rathore, then he will have unique record of having two or more highest grossers in three years (1999 – Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No.1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; 2011 – Bodyguard, Ready; 2012 – Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2). So, except few mediocre time period in mid 2000s, he is just class apart and in his own lane.
