MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’, directed by Reema Kagti, also featuring Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor has failed to garner the coveted Rs 100 crores at the domestic box office even after 12 days of being released.
‘Talaash’ hit screens on November 30. Even though this was no public holiday, the anticipation for the film was pretty high considering its an Aamir Khan starrer. Though the response to the 3 month pre-booking novel idea was lacklustre, the advance booking 4-5 days before the film’s released looked strong. But things didn’t quite turn out the way expected.
The opening day collection was fair to average. As we reported earlier, the first day business was of Rs 128 million (Rs 12.8 crore) net approximately. From there on, like an opened soda bottle loosing its fizz, it was all downhill. SEE REPORTContinue reading →

It was highlighted in this column last week that weekday collections were quite important to decide eventual fate of Khiladi 786. Since the film had received a nod of approval from a good chunk of target audience, it was prudent that the film doesn’t go the Thank You or Desi Boyz way, which couldn’t quite sustain themselves despite not being bad products. To the good fortunes of everyone involved with Khiladi 786, the film went hung on well over the weekdays as well(especially at single screens, which was a clear indication over the weekend itself), hence resulting in over 51 crores coming in.
While the film was always set to be in the profit zone due to the cost
involved, a good first week total coupled with an open second week
means that lifetime collections of over 70 crores are in the offering. Of
course this is way lesser than the three biggies that Akshay has
enjoyed this year(Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, OMG Oh My God!). Still, the collections should turn out to be fourth highest ever for the actor as it is expected that Singh Is Kinng and Welcome number of 70 crores would be surpassed. This also means that barring Joker, Akshay Kumar has managed a rather good year for himself. As for Himesh Reshammiya, he has
managed to give momentum to his production house, earned some
points for his comic act and gained further accolades as a composer. It
can well be expected that he would be all the more active in the
filmmaking business now.Though Asin, who has quite a few 100 crore successes to her name,
couldn’t add one more to her list; she still maintained her successful
stint in Bollywood. Other than Katrina Kaif, she is the only other actress with such high success rate.
Salman Khan had mesmerized the audience with his innocent yet intellectual iconic character called Prem. Sooraj Barjatya gave him this image and now after years, the duo will be seen together.
In the year 2012, we have seen him playing macho roles full of action when asked if he will be seen in romantic roles again like he did in ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ etc, the actor promptly says, “Yes you will see me in Sooraj’s film.” Continue reading →

Satyamev Jayate won the CNN-IBN ‘Indian of The Year’ award under Special Achievement category along with Olympian Mary Kom and missile scientist Dr. K.C. Thomas.
Star India CEO Uday Shankar and the Satyamev Jayate team were honoured for their remarkable contribution in highlighting several social ills that continue to plague modern India and to help create awareness against such evils through the pioneering TV program. Continue reading →
Salman Khan isn’t the sorts to mince matters. It’s always either black or white for him and may be that’s just why he doesn’t hesitate in speaking his heart out. As the second installment of his super successful blockbuster Dabangg comes close to its release, the notorious Khan of the film industry gets chatty about considering 100cr an achievable target, plans for the third part of Dabangg, choosing action films to stay fit and the possibility of being summoned by the court for his hit and run case on this birthday! Excerpts:
People are already touting this film to touch 300crs. Your thoughts.
People nowadays speak of 300crs as if it’s nothing. First let somebody comfortably touch 200, it’s not even easy to touch 100 crores for some. There is increase in the number of fan following, increase in theaters, increase in ticket prices so business has to happen.
One thing is for sure that in our life time itself it will be 300, 400 and 500 crores. But has touching at least a 100cr mark become a regular mundane process for you as all your films at least make that much?Continue reading →

There are Class Film, there are Mass Film and there are Salman Film. Ask any Exhibitor or Distributor about Salman Khanand they will say these words unanimously. He is a phenomenon and this phenomenon creates mass hysteria at the box officewhenever his film releases. The man is synonymous to box office records from Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun days.
With court cases and mediocre projects after year 2005 his stock at the box office was in doldrums. Then happened Wanted in 2009 and rest is history. He who started the single screen craze which was near about shut down.
