Why the recent biggies have been so disappointing? Will Dabangg 2 go the same way?

In a span of one month, moviegoers were presented with four bigshot films, starring A-listers and backed by premiere production and distribution houses of the country. Sadly, none of them have able to garner fair amount of appreciation that is normally expected from a big film. Hence, it’s no wonder that the box office collections too aren’t very encouraging.

It all started with the great clash of Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar on Diwali Day (Nov 13). Both the film did attract sizeable number of audiences to theatres. But thanks to mixed feedback for both the films, these films fell after the 6-day festive period was over. Too much is made of the 100 crore club but it’s a good barometer for judging film’s success. And Jab Tak Hai Jaan took close to 20 days to reach there, even though it had competition from Son Of Sardaar, which indicates that something somewhere has gone wrong. Both the films fortunately were correctly priced and hence were profitable ventures.

Aamir Khan’s first film in 3 years after 3 Idiots, Talaash, was never in the league of other biggies. It wasn’t a typically massy film – it was a suspense drama and an emotional tale at its core. Moreover, it released on a regular working Friday, unlike other biggies of the year that had the advantage of holidays and extended weekends. Although collections have been to an extent satisfactory, the public response has been mixed. Salman Khan’s Rs 120 cr plot: Dabangg 2 paying off already?

After reprising his role as Chulbul Pandey in two successive films, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is all set to become Dabangg, this time in real life. Word is in from sources in the real estate business that the actor has purchased a plot sprawling over nearly 14,000 square feet in Linking Road, Santacruz, which has an estimated value of Rs 120 crore.

Parthesh Developers inked the deal some time last month, and the plot will be registered as his property very soon. The superstar is likely to construct an office on the plot. The builder was initially tightlipped about the sale, only letting on that he had been in talks with the actor. “I am planning to sell the plot, but talks are on with many people and no money has been exchanged yet,” insisted Nirav Shah. However, real estate sources operating in Bandra and Santacruz confirmed that the builder has sold the plot to Salman Khan, who has already made some part of the payment. Continue reading
