The year 2012 has proved to be commercially successful for the Bollywood. For some stars like Salman and Shahrukh it was like any other year but for Ajay and Akshay, it was a much needed boon. Audience loved what they brought and we chose out few stars who have ruled the audience throughout the year.
Salman Khan: Salman Khan is masses’ favorite and it shows off with the business his movies perform, his brand endorsements, his cameo in SOS for friendship’s sake with Ajay Devgn.
“Ek Tha Tiger” is the highest grosser of the year with 186 crore in the kitty and I don’t see the trend breaking in next three weeks. The movie harnessed so much business that even their old camper- Shahrukh Khan could not get them.
Ek Tha Tiger Movie grossed first day collection for 31.93 crore and overall earned 186 crore.
Also, lined up is his home production, “Dabangg 2” with which standards are again high, Salman has truly become synonym to success.
Akshay Kumar Akshay Kumar appeared in 5 movies this year. Three hits, one flop and the 5th one is an anticipated hit. He is the actor who has been riding the winning horse all through this year. His movies “Housefull 2” (Akshay’s first to gross 100 crore) and “Rowdy Rathore” were back to back super hits with both of them grossing over 100 crore business.
The “Joker” came and went, Akshay’s feathers remained unruffled. With “Oh My God!” an above average hit, he was back in game again. And now with “Khiladi 786″, slated to release this Friday we can dare say that he is set to end the year on a celebratory note and 2012 has been a year that he is going to cherish for long.
Housefull 2 The movie started with 13.25 crore on the first weekend and ended on 100 crore by the third week. Rowdy Rathore The movie collected a 15.06 crore on opening day and made 133 crore in the domestic market only.
Shahrukh Khan: Be it a street guitarist or major Samar Pratap Singh in the Indian Army’s Bomb Demolition Squad, he struck the chords of the audience heart and set them ablaze. Shahrukh Khan’s “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” was the most hyped movie of year. Viewer’s heart beat went wild when Yash ji announced that it will be his last directorial venture.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan The first day collection of the movie was 12.50 crore and still running at the multiplexes and theaters. It crossed the 100 crore mark by the beginning of the next week.
Also flamed the movie was the controversy between Yash Raj and ADF under Ajay Devgn as both were slated to release on same day.
Ajay Devgn Ajay Devgn though was a part of the multi-starrer movies, but both the movies “Bol Bachchan” and “Son Of Sardar” worked financially well at the box office. Plus, both were 100 crore grossers.
Ajay played versatile characters, from an enthusiast English learner village head to sophisticated Sikh NRI. People loved Ajay’s light comedy and welcomed him out of intense roles.
Bol Bachhan With opening of around 11.25 crore the movie garnered 100 crore. Son of Sardar SOS opened with 8.50 crore and earned 100 crore a little after the third week. The movie is still running in screens.
Ranbir Kapoor: Playing the deaf-mute guy in “Barfi!” really worked for Ranbir Kapoor, so much that without saying a single word he was hailed to the entry to Oscars. People kept their tongues wagging, but the movie has just positioned him more solidly in the Bollywood and a “look in the eye” chance to the “Reigning Khans.” So we have talent, brains and good choice of movies from Ranbir.
BarfiThe movie’s first weekend collection was a 8.56 crore but the movie garnered overall 106 crore.
