Khiladi 786 movie review TOI
Movie Review: Barah baras baad, Khiladi ka number aa gaya. Bollywood’s original Khiladi is back from self-imposed exile; still with a heart of gold, the pride of a true-blooded Singh and mighty-muscles of steel. And …
Dabangg 2 is a continuation of the amazing exploits of Chulbul ‘Robin Hood’ Pandey played by Salman Khan.
The notable facets of the character include his nonchalance, his wry sense of humor and his tongue-in-cheek dialogues.
In the first film, Chulbul was pitted against Chedi Singh a local goon. And Chedi Singh had killed Chulbul’s mother Naina Devi (Dimple Kapadia).
Thus his family now consists of his stepfather Prajapati Pandey (Vinod Khanna), his younger half-brother, Makhanchan “Makkhi” Pandey (Arbaaz Khan), Makkhi’s wife Nirmala (Mahi Gill). And his wife Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha).
This film begins with Chulbul moving on from being a local inspector in a small town Laalganj to becoming an Inspector-in-charge of Bajariya Thana, a police station in Kanpur, the largest and most populous city in Uttar Pradesh.
Khiladi 786 Advance Booking started all over India in almost all centers. Still few percentage of cinemas have started advance booking from today only. As per early trend the advance booking report is slow for K786. Around 15-20% tickets are sold out on average. Few high-end plexes have recorded 50-60% advance booking, but the figures are very few.

WILL REVIVAL OF KHILADI FRANCHISE BRING SUCCESS TO AKSHAY?
The ‘Khiladi’ tag refuses to part with Akshay Kumar. Although the last Khiladi film of Akshay came in 2000, he was frequently referred to as ‘Khiladi Kumar’. Taking advantage, the makers of Khiladi 786 gave an apt title to the film and have even marketed the film as a part of ‘Khiladi’ franchise – the longest running franchise in Hindi cinema’!
Khiladi 786, besides Akshay, stars Asin, Himesh Reshammiya (who has also composed songs, produced and written the film), Mithun Chakraborty, Johny Lever, Raj Babbar, Mukesh Rishi, Claudia Cielsa (item number) and many others. The teaser of the film was unveiled almost 2 months back that got great response. However, the subsequent promos and theatrical trailer failed to get an overall good response. However, the purpose is served. Songs, composed by Himesh, have been loved by the masses. Moreover, film has loads of funny moments and action-packed scenes and thus Khiladi 786 does have chances to excel at the box office. On the other hand, not-so-happening promotions and the reservation that a certain section of audience has for such films might prove detrimental. Opening would be good but in order to sustain, film needs thumbs up from aam junta. And if that happens, there’s no stopping the film and can even make it to the 100-crore-club.
A year after, Akshay’s fortunes soar; Khiladi 786 to open well at the Box Ofiice
6 December 2012 , By Joginder Tuteja
How fortunes turn around in a matter of one year! A little over a year ago when Akshay Kumar’s Desi Boyz had released, the film was being looked at with hawk’s eye. Thank You and Patiala House, his two earlier releases in the year, hadn’t quite set the box office on fire and subsequently even Desi Boyz suffered when the film took just about decent opening of around 28 crore. The baggage of earlier films did have an impact on the fortunes of Desi Boyz and the very fact that the film didn’t quite cover much distance resulted in Akshay Kumar ending 2011 on an average note.
The reverse is all set to happen for him as 2012 comes to a close.
His Khiladi 786 is arriving with an air of positivism around it. He has already delivered two 100 crore successes (Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2), his production OMG Oh My God! has been a respectable critical as well as commercial super success and the only commercial downer has been Joker which he stayed away from. Trade, industry as well as audience are hot on his co-production with Himesh Reshammiya which also benefits from the fact that the composer has given numerous chartbusters already. The film’s ‘masala’ look and feel has further made sure that there is a success in the offering.
All of this means that the film is all set to embark on a very good start. Since the film’s release is very extensive, even a 60%-70% all-India start is good enough to ensure a weekend of minimum 40 crores for the film. While Rowdy Rathore, his last biggie, had scored higher, it was also a much expensive film. However for Khiladi 786, this would be a good total with a major chunk of moolah expected from the single screens. Expect the film to fetch better response here with an even higher occupancy.

When Salman Khan does a dance act, he is singularly unique. He not only does his own steps but also adds his own bits to the act. The star sure knows how to play to the audience with his hilarious act.

On a rainy Bangalore evening,Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar exudes energy and charm, despite having been stuck in traffic for over two hours. In the city to promote his next release, Khiladi 786, the actor takes time out to speak to TOI about his connection with Bangalore in his journey to becoming a superstar.
Excerpts from the interview:-
Bangalore and your journey have been quite synonymous. For Rowdy Rathore, you shot here again after a decade. What does the city mean to you?
Bangalore is where I began my journey as an actor. My first film Saugandh was shot here. I’ve shot for many of my films from the 90s here. So when I returned to shoot for Rowdy Rathore, for a day, it brought back many memories. I love this city, my best friend lives here. The only thing that has changed is the traffic. In the 90s, it used to be so peaceful. Today, the traffic is worse than Mumbai’s. But, if one discounts the traffic, Bangalore is the best city in India.
