Most territories already sold, while some key territories have been kept with Salman’s family

Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 is valued at 180 crore. Bollywood trade pundits are still reeling under the prices this film is being marked at, per territory. Eros International hold the overseas and home video rights, while a general entertainment channel has paid a whopping 45 crore for the satellite rights. The lion’s share of the territories — Mumbai, Delhi-UP, East Punjab, CP-CI and Rajasthan — are with Salim Khan and he has several sub-distributors queuing up. Trade consultant Amod Mehra says, “This is the highest valuation for a Bollywood film till date. Obviously, it is the Salman Khan factor, the success of the earlier Dabangg, the rise in satellite prices and the increased number of cinema halls playing Hindi films across the globe, that gives the sequel an edge.”

Also Salman’s last release Ek Tha Tiger did business of approximately 187 crore. So, obviously, this valuation seems to make business sense.

Trade sources also point out that deals that were sealed six to eight months ago, were comparatively under-valued because there was a satellite slump earlier. So if you check out the prices at which Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express and Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 were sold around that time, you will see that their figures are lower when compared to that of Salman’s Dabangg 2.

The cost of dabang2 is how much? I dont think it will be more thn 40cr of dabang1… Add to it 20cr for pr n publicity. Total 60cr. The satellite n overseas cover the cost. Rest major territories are under salim khan. How much will salman n arbaaz earn frm this sequel… May be two more sequels can be made out of free..

  2. Kunal

I doubt this value… Such value always come for all thr big movies…and in the end turn out to be rumours.. It would be hqving highest valuation but i doubt 180 crore…

As some sallu fans would have said if this article would have been about a different movie…”PR working overtime!!”

good business decisions.looks like the entire khan family is going to benefit from this.salmans business dealings have improved in the last 3-4 yrs unlike in the past where he did things for free whenever anyone played the victim card.the credit goes to reshma shetty, his business manager, who instilled business sense in him.she is the most sought after business manager in b-town nowadays

Sold or held by family members for 100 cr…
That means D2 Requires minimum 180 cr to breakeven or Become hit….

And FS ——saying that Arbaaz can easily make 2 more sequels for Free….
    Hahahahaha……

but for making Any more sequels D2 must cross 180 cr nett at Indian Boxoffice…
Even if touches 200cr…..it will give 10-20 cr profit for Salim ji and Arbaaz …
    Hahahahaha…..

yaar they have not sold rights to others but Bought(Salim and Arbaaz) rights at 80 cr…!!

      Hahahahaha…..

ank do you have even iota of sense about trade numbers? valued at 180crores means sold at 180crores and it is not a cost :D

Do you even have enough brains to understand it?

Btanahin kahan kahan se aa jate hai.:/

Producers r in for treat but think about Distributors who have bought the film frm Makers at such huge cost, that means 200% Distributors sm or the Other territory will Entail loss cuz 200cr can be Achieved if its Another Dabbangg or Else 150 to 165cr Maxm

    1. rafee

Kumar3798 again one more akki fan talking non-sense
dude in that 200crores satellite price and overseas and home video rights and audio rights are also included. :D

how could you count that for distributors??? kuch to soch samjake bola karo:/

  6. sanjeev-dabangg2-beats-ETT

Wow another big record for salman.
    5 blockbusters in a row.
Also hat trick of highest grosser of a year is guaranteed as talaash and k786 has no chance to beat ETT. Maybe dabangg 2 will.

Ank – thoda article padlo… They said its valued at around 80cr n the major territories are held by salim khan as Distributor (free of cost from his son arbaaz if nt tied up by any corporate) who can sell it via sub distributors (if he wishes to or if sub distributors are willing to pay high price) but that doesnt mean he bought it for 80cr. Kyun apna khud ka mazaak kar rahe ho?

Aur jab arbaaz khud producer hai aur agar movie wo 180cr mein bhi bechdeta hai to 10-12 cr profit kaise honge… Maths mein 16 ank liye they kya?

  8. FS

Aur agar film 100cr bhi karegi to loss distributors hoga aur un distributors ko jinhone high price mein kharida ho… Na ke unko jinki movie wo khud distribute kar rahe hon…

Its just the valuation done as if its done before IPO’s…

  9. sahildiksha

Selling the movie at such high prices may give khan family huge revenue but will exhibitors and distributors earm from this deal?????
As for now Dabangg2 is not looking as promising as Dabangg and carrying no hype like ETT.
Even Salman’s lines “sequel making is difficult” gave negative impression.

  10. dr.nick

Dabangg 2 will have the highest non holiday weekend in excess of 75 cr(dec21-23) and surpass ETT to become the biggest blockbuster of 2012.period.and then haters will start giving subjective shit like quality, trending or holiday release.pathetic people.

@kunal – salman fans are honest enuff to admit that this is PR of dabangg working. this is a cover page story in bombay times, before the release of dabangg and has got to be a paid story (bought space u know) however there is a huge difference between this PR story and others like

    1. it does not distort facts. 180 cr valuation for dabangg2 is so possible 3 months after ett india net was close to 200 cr, trp ratings of all salman films in the range of 10 on premeier telecast and 3 downwards on repeat telecast and considering its the only sequel ever of an ATBB in india. in fact anything upto 200 cr wud be very believable. had a sharukh/akshay film been in an enviable position like dabangg 2, the story wud have said ‘valued at 300/400/500 cr. thats the difference no 1.

    2. the story doesnt try to bulid salman as king khan/baadsha khan/ khiladi no 1 etc. in fact if u realize it just mentions the salman factor in passing and gives equal or more credit to, and i quote, “the success of the earlier Dabangg, the rise in satellite prices and the increased number of cinema halls playing Hindi films across the globe, that gives the sequel an edge.”. if at all the story undermines salman factor.

    3. the story also doesnt distort facts like an srk/akshay story wud have done by saying things like that since the budget of dabangg is so much and the revenue so much, its already a blockbuster. and reaching that verdict by not including salman’s fees in the budget, errnously off course.

    4. the 1st one to admit taht its a paid story is a salman fan. thats the difference no 4.
