The promos & sluggish pace has let down Talaash, for the average cinegoer!

December 1, 2012 | 9

My rating Talaash 3.5/5

I liked Talaash ( must add that I am big fan of Agatha Christie, and the slow paced finely detailed films that have been made on her novels), and I can also understand where and why a section of the audience has problems.

NO, it is not the climax. The problem is due to the promos, which gave an impression that the film has fast paced proceedings, before the final revelation.

Amir is investigating accidents/murders and there is this suspect having some vital info. The proceeding appeared taut and not sluggish. I always believe that promos should not be misleading, from the point of view of an ordinary cinegoer.

Unfortunately, TALAASH drags in the second half (very much like the first half of the second part of JTHJ). The film moves at patience testing pace, till the climax. You cannot do that to the audience.

Akshay – Ashvini to produce a Punjabi comedy

December 1, 2012 |
By Bollywood Hungama News Network,December 01, 2012 – 11:58 hrs IST

A while ago we had told you thatAkshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi were co-producing a Marathi film titled 72 Miles – Ek Pravas under their banner Grazing Goat Pictures. Now the dynamic duo have announced their plans to produce a Punjabi comedy titled Paaji In Trouble.

The film will however not star Akshay Kumar and he will be only producing the film. Akshay felt that in the last few years the market for Punjabi cinema has grown by leaps and bounds and hence it was an apt time to launch a film in his mother-tongue. The film is a complete entertainer which will depict the beauty of Punjab like never before.

Sanket’s Review: “Talaash” is not entirely engaging, though its fairly good!

December 1, 2012 | 7

Cast: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kaporr, Rani Mukherjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shernaz patel

Director: Reema Kagti

Length: 2.20 hours approximately

TALAASH, this week’s new thriller has lots of surprises in store, but they are not well unfolded. The genre of the film itself is a big surprise. It’s really impressive to see so many mainstream faces doing such kind of suspense drama which takes a path away from our regular suspense thrillers. From prostitute areas to high profiled people to small time gangsters, TALAASH revolves around many characters and each is well defined.

The Waning Star of Aamir Khan

December 1, 2012 | 16

Talaash has finally released in theaters much to a lukewarm response. It did not matter much that Aamir is coming after a gap of 3 years in a mainstream commercial movie, the audience did not feel excited enough to flock in theaters in huge numbers. Aamir has been trying to bridge the gap between commercial and meaningful cinema for a number of years now and it is about time he breaks his back in the process.

The audience doesn’t feel excited enough for an Aamir Khan movie now. The chunk of audience who is excited about Aamir’s films ends up getting disappointed or not fully satisfied. Aamir’s own performance is getting more and more labored losing the spontaneity he had in his younger years. His flawed Hindi accent is getting more and more prominent with each of his films.

While technologically Aamir’s films are getting better and better, aesthetically they are losing it. His movies may come across as sophisticated but the natural flair is missing. The ingredients may be perfect but there is just no flow to it. He may be experimenting with the subjects or genres but at the end of the day the product is flawed enough not to generate a feeling of fulfilness.

Expectations are huge thanks to the label of thinking actor, the amount he takes for his projects and the commitment he displays to cinema yet somehow he always falls short. His movie may be good in patches but lets you down as a package.

Pakistani actresses eye Bollywood

December 1, 2012 |

Bharati Dubey (BOMBAY TIMES; December 1, 2012)

Pakistani actors may still be reluctant about pursuing their luck in Bollywood, but their female counterparts are scripting a different trend altogether.

For instance, Meesha Shafi, Humaima Malik, Sarah Loren, Mehreen Syed, Saeeda Imtiaz and TV chat show host Mathira are making serious progress in their pursuit of a big Bollywood break. Meanwhile, Veena Malik, who was invited to be part of a reality show here, has tasted some success in the industry. Meera, probably one of the first Pakistani actresses to act in Bollywood with Soni Razdan’s Nazar (2005), is also set for a comeback.

Says Pakistani filmmaker Iram Parveen Bilal, who made her directorial debut with Josh, “Given the current lack of film production in Pakistan, it is natural for actresses to seek opportunities in India. Art and artistes play a positive role in Indian society; they are more valued in India than Pakistan. So, it is natural to be drawn to India to earn that kind of respect and attention and seek that kind of validation.”

Says director Mahesh Bhatt, “Mumbai is the Los Angeles of the East. It is the second entertainment capital of the world. If Yana, who hails from Eastern Europe, can use Bollywood to pole vault herself to fame and fortune, it’s natural for aspirants from the SAARC countries to do so. The girls from Pakistan have an obvious edge over their ‘rivals’ in India. They speak chaste Urdu and are therefore looked upon as an asset. Moreover, we come from the same racial stock. Our cultural DNA is the same.” Read More

1st Day Box Office Collections Of TALAASH (BoxOfficeCapsule)

“TALAASH” Heads For Good Day One Numbers

“Talaash” was slow in the morning and except few high end multiplexes, film failed to draw crowds. But as the day progressed almost all multiplexes started doing roaring business though single screens still look bleak.

Film has almost no chance in single screens and even the responses of mass centers are not up to the mark. But mutiplexes are doing business close to 90% and it is better than “Ek Tha Tiger” in properties like Inox Bangalore, Pvr Saket and Ambience Gurgaon. This will ensure the good figure on day one.

Talaash Movie Review

December 1, 2012 |

It’s been a long wait for an Aamir Khan film.. 35 months after the release of 3 Idiots, Khan returns with Reema Kagti’s Talaash, co-written by the writers of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Reema and Zoya Akhtar). The film also features two of the most talented leading ladies in the industry, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji.

Story: Talaash revolves around a mysterious accident of a popular film actor. Police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) heads the investigation team. Devrath (Raj Kumar Yadav) a junior police officer and a stunningly gorgeous sex worker Rosy (Kareena Kapoor), help him solve the mystery.

Talaash is also about Shekhawat’s personal life. He is yet to get over his son’s tragic death. Blaming himself for the accident, Shekhawat suffers from Insomnia. Leaving his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherji) back home, he spends his nights driving through isolated streets.

Review: Talaash (2.5/5)

December 1, 2012 |

Cast: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Nawazudin Siqqiui, Shernaz Patel, Rajkumar Yadav

Director: Reema Kagti

Indian Express Rating: **1/2

The first half of ‘Talaash’ is good enough for you not to want to blink. The atmospheric thriller, top lining an angst-ridden cop, his hollow-eyed sad sack of a wife and a stunning street-walker, has you hooked right from its lovely opening credits. In short order, all the right ingredients arrive :an accidental death, promising sub-plots, and dodgy characters, and it all starts to swing. Post-interval, though, the tale-telling starts to stutter, the pace slackens, and the film becomes less than the zinger it set out to be.

As Surjan Shekhawat (Khan) delves deeper into a Bollywood star’s mysterious death-by-drowning, it is clear that he’s going down the path where appearances will be deceptive. His search leads him to a red- light area, sleazy pimps, haggard hookers and bags full of blackmail money.
