Shah Rukh Khan has scraped in at number 40 on a newly-published list of influential Indians on Twitter.

Aamir Khan (2) and Salman Khan (6) are two of the highest-ranking Bollywood actors on the survey, compiled by digital marketing firm Pinstorm.

“As social media grew in India, we wanted a simple way to figure out how influential Indians were. To do this we needed (a) a list of Indian entities on social media and (b) a way to measure their social influence,” said the company in a statement.

“What started as a bit of a whim a year ago has grown into something much larger than any of us might have imagined.”

Other Hindi film actors in the top ten include Priyanka Chopra (3), Amitabh Bachchan (4), Abhishek Bachchan (9) and Akshay Kumar (10).

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh also ranks highly on a chart dominated by Bollywood stars, sports figures and politicians.

“A heartfelt thank you to all. Pinstorm rates me, Taran Adarsh, as the 12th most influential person on Twitter in India,” said the film critic.

The chart recorded data based on number of followers, follows and tweets sent.

The official Twitter page of the Office of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama took the top spot in the survey.
