BOI have this habit of adjusting.

Manish, even the numbers that come up within a week are just a more accurate estimate, leave aside the numbers coming next day which are more or less high level estimate. They have changed numbers many times within a few months even for movies like 3 idiots. the box office collections in India are not as good as that in Hollywood where every dollar is reported correctly.

Calculating nett in India is complex as different states and cinema halls have different taxation. So, the producer numbers that Taran and Komal release is all bull, as they use the most favorable calculation to come up with highest numbers.

roy bhai iam not talking abt just one movie i have seen it many times , TMK blue , KI , RR sabhi check kar lo …

Don 2 weekend was 46.4 earlier as well aaj bhi wohi hai , 3 idiots ka weekend 37 something wohi aaj bhi hai , dabangg was 48 something wohi aaj bhi hai

iam not talking abt HF 2 because uska unhone estimate diya tha … not the terriotorial figures so that i will count as estimate

chalo chhodo sab Blue released on diwali 2009 and 2009 ke end tak bhi wohi tha .. kya ek do mahine chale jane ke baad achanak se decrease ho gaya amount ?? distributors ne phone karke kaha arre bhai 2 mahine pehle jo aapne numbers diye the blue ke woh galat the??? …..

talking abt nett etc and gross DOGA very well pointed out on SB that BOI use same percentage whether for a multiplex movie or for SS heavy movie to calculate nett….. he told me the the way RR has collected in SS .. its worldwide gross wd be higher than 201-202 jo bhi unhone report kiya hai … …

so they never increased it because they themselves and even komal gave as much as 65 % Ds out of first weekend or first week … but they used same conversion rate for RR as they did for multiplex heavy Don -2 , so that thing doesnt apply for BOI

“roy bhai iam not talking abt just one movie i have seen it many times , TMK blue , KI , RR sabhi check kar lo …”

3 of the 4 movies have flopped at BO. So obviously initial estimates would be high, but will come lower.

“iam not talking abt HF 2 because uska unhone estimate diya tha … not the terriotorial figures so that i will count as estimate”

even territorial figures are estimates .. they are not final numbers

chalo chhodo sab Blue released on diwali 2009 and 2009 ke end tak bhi wohi tha .. kya ek do mahine chale jane ke baad achanak se decrease ho gaya amount ?? distributors ne phone karke kaha arre bhai 2 mahine pehle jo aapne numbers diye the blue ke woh galat the??? …..

Yes sir. exactly what I am saying. Collections don’t decrease. Calculations get more accurate

“talking abt nett etc and gross DOGA very well pointed out on SB that BOI use same percentage whether for a multiplex movie or for SS heavy movie to calculate nett….. he told me the the way RR has collected in SS .. its worldwide gross wd be higher than 201-202 jo bhi unhone report kiya hai … …”

Doga is right as far as estimation is concerned. But atleast BOI uses a more correct standard as compared to Taran/Komal. Also, Net is derived from Gross in the first place. Not the other way round.

Hence, plexes based movies numbers are closer often than SS based movies. (Tax is higher in SS)

“BOI use same percentage whether for a multiplex movie or for SS heavy movie to calculate nett”
I hope you realize if a multiplex and another SS movie made same gross (say 100 cr), the nett for the plex movie (around 85-95 cr) with be significantly higher than SS (60-70 cr) as taxes in plexes are much lower. so not sure what you are implying by your statement.

Please note how over the last decade increase in plexes changed the nett calculation %age (I have calculated for highest grosser to give you the idea)

    2001 – Gadar – 58.00%
    2002 – Devdas – 60.75%
    2003 – Koi Mil Gaya – 61.75%
    2004 – Veer Zara – 69%
    2005 – No Entry – 69.65%
    2006 – Dhoom 2 – 71.75%
    2007 – Om Shanti Om – 71.9%
    2008 – Ghajini – 74%
    2009 – 3 Idiots – 75%

    http://www.boxofficeindia.com/showProd.php?itemCat=304&catName=TGlmZXRpbWUgQWRqdXN0ZWQ=

Also note, if you were to calculate Adjusted Nett for HAHK (176 cr) and Gadar (166 cr) it would fall behind 3 idiots (202.57 cr) based on the above info provided. This does not mean that 3 idiots was more popular. Footfalls for both HAHK and Gadar are distant dream in this time. What it means is that ticket prices ended up contributing more to the nett for 3 idiots while for HAHK and Gadar, a heavy chunk went as taxes.

“even territorial figures are estimates .. they are not final numbers”

When they mean estimates they write estimates , and when they dont mean estimate they dont write approx and falana dhimkana …..

that is my point if they are estimates why dont they give it as estimate with territorial colllection .. reason is simple because they are not any-more giving estimate

    ————————————————————————
“3 of the 4 movies have flopped at BO. So obviously initial estimates would be high, but will come lower.”

lol yeh kaun sa logic ?? flop hai to estimates higher aayenge :P i think jo movies chal rahi hoti hai unke chances for swelled figures are more rather than a flop

    —————————————————————————–

“Net is derived from Gross in the first place. Not the other way round.”
which ever way u take the ratio between nett and gross for a plex movie and SS high movie cant be same thats my point ….

“that is my point if they are estimates why dont they give it as estimate with territorial colllection .. reason is simple because they are not any-more giving estimate”
It will look strange to call it estimates. Anyways, I have this info from a reliable source.

“lol yeh kaun sa logic ?? flop hai to estimates higher aayenge :P i think jo movies chal rahi hoti hai unke chances for swelled figures are more rather than a flop”
They are big movies expected to do good. So estimates would tend to be on higher side.

“which ever way u take the ratio between nett and gross for a plex movie and SS high movie cant be same thats my point ….”
I have said nett is high for plex movie and lower for SS.
