The difference in collection between the two is getting smaller everyday. With a fair release, SOS would have perhaps performed better than JTHJ .. shows how much SRK has fallen from his perch

    1. Jasp the Wasp

Oh.. the collection gap has decreased? Tell me, have you passed in mathematics when you were in school?

The gap has remained exactly the same; and let’s not forget that the gap widened from Thursday to Friday. Of course, all you will say is “Gap is shortening” like a parrot :P. Its not happening Rosh. Snap out of it.

      1. Rosh

LOL, if you keep adding days and collections to the total figures but the gap remains the same 15 crs then by default gap has decreased.

Your math ends at addition, but I am talking about simple concepts like percentage which, I understand are actually beyond you :D

        1. sanjeev-dabangg2-beats-ETT

          good reply…
srk fans think all others are rickshawala

  2. Fasel

Tango, hows the film doing overseas? How much has SRK fallen there?

  3. RJ

SRK is the king of overseas….just that these days kings work in shifts :D

  4. Serenzy

I don’t Think JTHJ is Much of a
    Critical Success among the
Neutrals but BO Wise, it is
Certainly On a Much Stronger Boat than RA.One.

    Shah Rukh is Behind Aamir
    ATM[Talaash will Clear the
    Things] and Miles Behind the
    Evergrowing Super Stardom
    of Salman Khan.

Taking a Product like ETT to
    150/160 was Ho-hum but
    taking it 190

  5. danish

the fact is sharukh was never ahead of salman – just like aamir was never ahead of sharukh.

    1. Jasp the Wasp

Of course Salman was always ahead. Yuvraaj was the year’s biggest hit and doubled the collections of Om Shanti Om. Oh, not to forget, MAMK earned more than CDI, KANK and MNIK combined.

    2. jealous hater of srk

u mean to say in giving no. Of flops in whole carrier? Right???

    3. jealous hater of srk

@danish u mean in terms of giving more flops in whole carrier right??

  6. Tango

Fasel- I am not aware of how it is today, but after 4-days it was $4.65-4.67 m.

If you see in India, initially the gap was about 4 crore (first day) between JTHJ & SOS, and now it is about 15 crore, after 5 days.

  7. dark

    rough figured
first day gap between sos nd jthj-6 crores
    second day-4 crores
    3rd day-2 crores

nd in coming days sos will definetly lead

trending wise sos is far better than jthj

    1. Jasp the Wasp

First day gap = 6 crores. As per BOI first day of JTHJ was 12.5 crores. Are you saying that SOS earned 6.5 crores on its opening day?

      Actual figures :-

      Day 1 gap – 4 crores
      Day 2 gap – 3 crores
      Day 3 gap – 2 crores
      Day 4 gap – 2.25 crores
      Day 5 gap – 2.25 crores

As per calculations, yes, SOS will outdo JTHJ tomorrow by a margin of 12 crores per day.

  8. Kunal

Lol… For some jthj was supposed to demolish sos… And shows true power of srk… And what not…despite it being a more multiplex friendly film(hence mre revenue..) all the hype surrounding it being a yash chopra movie and his unfortunate demise… Having way more number of single screens which are sos’ main strength and that too in its main areas like delhi-up with much better class of single screens.. Sos still holding its own day by day and having a difference of 2 crore per day is commendable and slap on those who thought it would be a one horse race and sos would be no competition… And shows how much it could have earned had the release would have been fair!

  9. sanjeev-dabangg2-beats-ETT

A week back some srk fans said JTHJ will collect at least 75% more than SOS in India…My dear brothers don’t feel shy. you can show your faces. It happens sometimes.

  10. Dino

SOS has really been the surprise package here. I was expecting it too be heavily outgrossed in first week and start collecting week 2 onwards if its a decent watch. But here it has managed to stand its own with not much difference with JTHJ the bigger movie with grand release hyped further by the YC factor. Kudos to Ajay. Mighty impressed by SOS performance at BO.

  11. jealous hater of srk

i had said said earlier also even if they would hav made worst version rajmoulli sir’s the film would hav been hit.though it performd way beyound expectation
Suprised no one is talking abt no. Of shows which sos had more than jhtj…
And abt screen count nly 500 screen is difference lets wait for monday
‘picture aabi baki ha mera dost’

    1. sanjeev-dabangg2-beats-ETT

picture baki ho ya na ho koi farak nahi padta….aare first interval mein hi sab audience bhag jayenge toh picture baki hone se kya hota hai?

  12. danish

@J&J (jaspu and jealous hater) – no by “salman was always ahead of shahrukh” wat is mean is that at no stage in his llife/career shahrukh has hade more hits, more biggest hits of the year, more atbbs, more successes (everything including below average to atbb) not in 1995 (wen he laready had two atbbs while srk had his 1st) not in 2002 (wen salman went thru his worst year while srk had fake hits like devdas) and not in 2008 (tha last of salman’s bad years) here is the list
taking clean hits only (if we included everything from below average salman will be much ahead)

    till 1992 – salman 3 hits, srk 1 hit
    till 1993 – salman 3 hits, srk 3 hits
    1994 – salman 4 hits srk 3 hits
    till1995 – salman 5 hits, srk 5 hits
    till 1996 – salman 6 hits, srk 5 hits
    till 1997 – salman 7 hits, srk 7 hits
    till 1998 – salman 9 hits, srk 8 hits
    till 1999 – salman 11 hits srk 8 hits
    till 2000 – salman 11 hits, srk 9 hits
    till 2001 – salman 11 hits, srk 10 hits
    till 2002 – salman 11 hits, srk 11 hits
    till 2003 – salman 12 hits, srk 12 hits
    till 2004 – salman 13 hits, srk 14 hits
    till 2005 – salman 15 hits, srk 14 hits
    till 2006 – salman 15 hits srk 16 hits
    till 207 – salman 16 hits srk 18 hits
    till 2008 – salman 16 hits, srk 19 hits

as you can see claearly salman had always been ahead of srk except in the years 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. and 4 years out of 20 doesnt make him a bigger star. no not ever. not in any year.

  13. Fasel

I will confess, I clearly underestimated SOS and am shocked. The WOM for SOS on twitter is avg to bad but still putting up good numbers. Credit goes to masala genre.

    1. Jasp the Wasp

Who said WOM on twitter is average to bad? Lots of people have said that they enjoyed SOS as a time-pass entertainer.

    2. Rosh

Credit goes to anyone and anything except the star unless that star is SRK, right Fasel?

When will people learn not to use the 0.01% elite twitter user to gauge the response of the 100%

  14. TopShot_Now Its Dabangg2

I am impressed with the kind of performance SOS is putting against mighty competition. At the same time disappointed with JTHJ performance. Below Expectation.

  15. Tango

Fasel – “I will confess, I clearly underestimated SOS and am shocked. The WOM for SOS on twitter is avg to bad but still putting up good numbers. Credit goes to masala genre.”

I always knew said that both films will do good on diwali, so I am not surprised.

The real battle forsupremacy begins Monday onwards. Hit or say semi-hit dono picture honi hai.

  16. Yakuza

Watched SOS second time and movie still managed to entertain. Even glitches in second half didn’t bother me this time. There were many repeat audience today. A bunch of guys just behind my row disclosing the scenes and guy sitting next to me changed his seat after interval due to early revealings .. :)

Today i realize SOS will go long way .. it has ultimate repeat value.

  17. Kunal

When the movie flops its because ajay has no star value..bt when the movie works its because of either the genre…or rohit shetty…either ways..ajay would never be credited…lol to people… Always underestimating him!

  18. wall-D

I love ajay devgn’s act, he was totally into skin of character. Very good performance subtle and entertaining with great comic timing. i saw it third time :P and loved it more on every successive watch :D

** Friends, can someone put this as a separate thread. I dont have rights to create a thread**

    JTHJ – My Movie Review (3.5 on 5) – The ‘Khan’dom is back :)

Halfway through the first half, Meera (katz) who is confused about her feelings meets her estranged mother and her lover (Mr and Mrs Rishi Kapoor in a lovely cameo) and the mother sums up her reason for eloping with her lover succintly with the line “Har Ishq Ka Ek Waqt Hota Hai. Woh Humara Waqt Nahi Tha. Iska Yeh Matlab Toh Nahi Ki Woh Ishq Nahi Tha”. Chopra weaves a romance using this line as the central premise of his final movie – a movie that is forever destined to be remembered his swansong and whose title “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” add so many layers of intrigue just because of his preordained death. Fortunately the movie has more going for it than not for most of its 3 hour running time.

We are introduced then to a dare devil Major Samar Anand of the bomb disposal squad christened – The Man who cannot die – because he doesnt wear a bomb suit when the reality is that he tries to die every single minute. A discovery channel 20 something reporter Akira (Anushka) chances upon his diary and we come to know that Samar was a odd job specialist in his younger days in love with an engaged heiress Meera (Katz) who in turn had a peculiar give and take relationship with Jesus wherein she will give up things that she like for favors from the almighty. So when Samar and Meera gets too intimate for comfort and a possibly fatal accident happens to Samar, Meera in a fit of impulse resolves to stay away from Samar in return for his life when in reality all she had to do was to teach Samar ways to cross the road or drive a motor bike without getting hit!! Samar leaves Meera and resolves to die (though it is not clear why he didnt just hang himself if he had to die to prove Meera wrong).

Chopra is a master in weaving a romance specially when it involves his two pet subjects – fate and God. So however much flimsy the premise of a movie sounds (I intentionally wrote the above para to make the story sound as flimsy as possible) Chopra’s conviction and his handling of ‘moments’ (there are plenty of those here) are so terrific that you are able to believe in his films. JTHJ is no exception and though the movie is saddled by atleast one clunky plot line involving retrogade amnesia and a weak central heroine (the worst Chopra heroine ever) you are able to ignore both these flaws to a large extent.

It was important that the central love story (between SRK and Katz) here is really strong but we are saddled with such a frigid and emotionless Katrina that you hardly feel for anything here (specially when they reunite – remember how we were so involved when SRK and Kajol reunite in DDLJ??.Hell, even VeerZaara – Chopra worst effort scored on this front.). Katz is so plastic its not even amusing. The role needed a better actress and this is the biggest drawback of the movie (I would have cast Priyanka). SRK is distincly awkward when he is with Katz and I dont blame him as its tough to be passionate in front of a plastic zombie even when she is half naked.

The second love story between SRK and Anushka on the other hand is wonderful. Anushka is superbly vibrant and her chemistry with SRK form the best portions of the movie. There is a wonderful scene with Anushka when SRK explains why he doesnt wear a bomb suit “Bomb toh sirf 1 baar jaan leti hai , zindagi toh bar bar jaan leti hai” he says and that scene is beautifully done by both of them. Anushka is a wonderful young actress and you feel for her loss however impending it was.

Khan himself is in fantastic form and i can bet that no comtemporay actor looks as good as he does with a stubble and no one looks as regal as he does in an army attire. He lends great depth and gravitas to his role as Samar and his simmering intensity add a layer of intrigue to his character. What also works big time is Chopra stays clear of corniness and melodrama most of the times and instead leaves so much unsaid and unexplained intentionally in some frames. The parting scene between SRK and Katz ends with SRK abruptly walking off Katz without so much of a protest and i thought that was a wonderful touch. A Karan Johar would have made poor SRK cry like a sissy and it was refreshing to see maturity here which only a master like Chopra can bring to the table. Khan pitches his performance so perfectly and with so much finesse that it makes Chopra’s swansong a very good one and one that I suspect will age very well with time.

A recommended watch even if you are not a SRK fan. I am giving 1 full star just for SRK’s performance out of 3.5 :)

@yakuza – “Today i realize SOS will go long way .. it has ultimate repeat value.”

did u find it better than Jadugar ???

  21. sanjeev-dabangg2-beats-ETT

I liked SOS. All were good, but Juhi Chawla was the best performer for me.
Ajay playing basketball of a gunda in the opening fight was too funny.

  22. RJ

Haha alfa one… yakuza finds repeat value and logic in films against the ones he does not want to support.

When it was ETT, he was hell bent on sticking to realism, logic and what not.
Now that its JTHJ, he finds repeat value in SOS which is devoid of any logic…and is an ultimate maha bore.

    1. Yakuza

I think you suffer from READ Syndrome. Did i say “LOGIC” in SOS ??

SOS is comedy and it was good time pass. Yesterday on repeat viewing it again didn’t bore me .. and also there was lots of many other repeat audience, so my judgement.

ETT was not comedy and defying on logic in Spy drama is always noticeable.

  23. Alfa.one

    @RJ – good one !!!

Actually it is not the fault of Yakuza, he didnt know the power of Salmaan before ETT, now perhaps he will understand before and after the release of Dabangg2 !!

As far as logic is concerned, he only find it in Amitabh bachchan or Abhishek Bachchan’s movies, be it Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Jadugar, Ajooba etc. etc.

    1. Yakuza

What ever makes your day Alpha .. otherwise no one knows me better than me .. :)
