|Q. There are so many single screens in India, maybe over 5000 so why is there a big deal about Son Of Sardar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan screen fight because both films can have 1000 multiplex screens and 2000 single screens and and that would be 3000 screens each which is more than 99% of film releases?
A. It does not work that way. There are not 5000 single screens for Hindi films. India has a lot more than 5000 screens but a lot of these are in South where Hindi films don’t release. Basically there are 1700-1800 odd single screens for Hindi films that collect well and its a must for a big film to release on these theatres, if not all of them then at least a big chunk of them. You can easily release on screens but what’s the point of releasing on screens which can’t collect well so the fight is for the important single screens which are limited and makes it tough when 2 big films release together.
Q. How would you put the releases of the last month or so like OMG, English Vinglish, Student Of The Year and 1920 in order of success in India?
