‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ vs ‘Son of Sardar’: I am Fighting for My Rights, says Ajay Devgn

November 6, 2012 | 5

The war between actor-producer Ajay Devgn and Yash Raj Films intensifies after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) rejected Ajay’s allegation that the production company is using its dominant position for the promotion of “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”.

Ajay insisted that the fight is not between him and actor Shahrukh Khan but between the producers of the movies “Son of Sardar” and”Jab Tak Hai Jaan”. The actor said that he had filed the complaint before Yash Chopra passed away”I had filed the complaint much before the demise of Yash Chopra.

When this happened I was like people are going to target me and nobody is going to understand my point of view… I was a villain on both sides. I couldn’t withdraw it (notice) from the Competition Commission… It is not a normal court,” Ajay told Press Trust of India(PTI).

We have just received an official statement from Ajay Devgn Ffilms (ADF) – “We are shocked by the rejection of our legitimate case by the CCI. We have approached the Appellate Tribunal against the order.” So what happens next?

According to a source close to Salman Khan, if his close friend Ajay Devgn’s film Son Of Sardaar doesn’t get its ‘fair’ share of screen space as compared to Yash Raj Films’ Jab Tak Hai Jaan starring Shah Rukh Khan, the actor has decided to use his leverage in the industry to clash his upcoming film Kick with SRK’s next film with Rohit Shetty, Chennai Express.

Cinema is not just an emotional investment, but also a very big and risky business proposition. So when a very sensible actor-filmmaker like Ajay Devgn – who shies away from anything that creates negativity in the industry – is embroiled in a controversial mess, he finds it difficult to deal with. Devgn tries to explain why he has to release Son of Sardaar on November 13, even though it clashes with the last film that Yash Chopra directed, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma….

Shah Rukh Katrina pair in huge demand

As the awards season in Bollywood approaches, organisers of various events have already started working to sign on the top stars for stage performances. And the two most sought after names to have emerged are those of Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.

“With Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) coming up, Shah Rukh and Katrina are the hottest new on-screen pair. That’s why every organiser — for popular shows including Screen, Apsara, IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) and Stardust — has approached them. They want them to do an act together on stage, which will no doubt get a lot of TV viewership. The deals haven’t been finalised yet, as it all depends on their availability and fee,” says an industry source.

Mohamad Morani of event-management company Cineyug confirms, “They are a very viable pair. We have started talks with several stars, including them. We are planning to get them on board for two award shows — Zee Cine and Screen.”

CCI rejects Devgn’s allegation of YRF abusing dominant position

November 6, 2012 | 34

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has rejected the plea of actor-producer Ajay Devgn against Yash Raj Films (YRF) for their alleged abuse of dominant position ahead of release of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ).

Devgn alleged that YRF was abusing its dominant position and was asking exhibitors to provide more screens to their release than for his film Son of Sardaar.

Both the films will be released this Diwali, November 13, 2012.

“We considered the plea application. We have not found any merit in the case as there is no case of abuse of dominant position. This is a case of first comer. That can not be held against them (YRF). Hence there is no violation of Section 3 of the Competition Act,” an official source told the Indian Express. The orders for the same will be issued soon, the official said.
