There Is No ‘Khiladi’ Series!
With the idiots at the helm of affair of the ‘C’ grade looking khiladi 786 trying to make it look like the biggest franchise of bollywood (ya with most of them flops and just 2 clean hits its sure got to be the biggest franchise!) what is amusing is the white lie that is the khiladi series itself. actually there is no such thing as the khiladi series or franchise.
how does a film become a sequel of another. by having a common character, an extended story or at least (as akshay’s dumb fans wud agree wholeheartedly) at least by having a common hero (thats the only basis they think that makes up the khiladi series.) apart from that all khiladi films have nothing in common.
but the fact is that even the hero in all khiladi films is not common. khel khiladi ka had dharmendra and dhruv, khatron ke khiladi had dharmendra, sanjay dutt and chunke pandey the hero of the 1st khiladi was e billimoria in 1945, the lead in second khiladi was ashok kumar in 1950, and the 1968 khiladi had fearless nadia as the main lead. shatranj ke khiladi 1977 starred the great sanjeev kumar and saeed jaffery. come to think of it even small time comedian mohan choti of ysteryears played the hero in ‘ek khiladi baawan pattey’.
akshay kumar starred in khiladi (1992) and some more disparate films with the word khiladi thrown in without any common story line or character with just two of them hits (sabse bada khiladi and khiladiyon ka khiladi) and rest all flops. but so did fardeen khan (ek khiladi ek haseena) and some dubbed films like khiladi no 1 and ek anari do khiladi.
but trust the dumb akshay kumar fans to buy the stupid and imaginary khiladi series and queue up for its tickets!

2. the genre thing was the answer to tango’s lame reason that a ‘quasi-series’has many films with similar titles in the same genre. even i know khiladi series doesnt have any common genre. hence there is no khiladi sries.
3. khiladi title and the word khiladi as part of a title has been in vogue since 1945 as i showed above with examples. so there is nothing to thank akshay for on this front too. if at all anyone owns the khiladi series, its e billimoria.
4. of the 5 ‘memorable’ khiladi films u listed, 3 were not even simple hits forget superhits, bb or atbb. how are they memorable for u is highly subjective. most even wudnt have heard of them. they are hardly telecast on prime time television (they are mostly telecast in weekdays day time) and that indicates how much of a memorable classic they are.
5. point 5 is entirely ur subjective opinion. the fact is msk was a story abt salman’s character. a man who has anger management problems coming in the way of his love life. akshay was incidental to the plot. just a comedian.

THE MAGIC WORD IS HIT!
salman’s hit films indicate public approval of his acting. not one success but repeated 35 successes in 24 years definitely show public approval of his acting thru ticket sales/fotfall.
the failure of most (70%) khiladi films prove that public doesnt care for them. suppose i have 5000 cr rupee. i can make a series of 500 films at the budget of 10 cr each. and if all of them are disasters will it mean its a hit brand/series.
similarly the only khiladi films that gt public approval were sabse bada khiladi and khiladiyon ka khiladi that was 16 years back. since then public has increasingly distanced themselves frm the so called khiladi series, including those of akshay, fardeen and venkatesh. if khiladi 786 works, it will be a stand alone success.
having said that my article was about how there is no such thing as the khiladi series. so there is no question of its brand value since it doesnt exist.
@kumar 3798 – 1. all the 3 khiladi movies before akshay’s 1992 khiladi showcased their lead heroes (in one case heroine) as smart suave, able bodied winners. there is no other way to justify the title.
2. only kkk and sbk were clan hits. records are there for all to see on boxofficeindia.com
3. as far as audiences are concerned i dont think many remeber internatinal khiladi or khildi 420. even main khiladi tu anadi is doubtfull. actually there is no way to find this out but i will still try.

Just like king khan or perfectionist khan which also is media made and the fans and the stars also started enjoying it thinking they are king and perfectionist. In fact out of all the films with khiladi title in which akshay acted, hardly one or two were successful. Also this so called king and so called perfectionist have given utter craps after they were given these bullshit titles.
