Why SRK should be afraid of Ajay?

The whole industry seems to be astounded by Ajay Devgn’s decision to release his film ‘Son Of Sardar’ on the same day as Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ directed by Yash Chopra. The legendary director and the king of romance returns with a film after Veer Zara (Nov 2004).

This film also marks the return of SRK into romance. His fans world over love him cast as a loverboy.  In the last few years, he’d moved away from love stories — Billu (2009), My Name Is Khan (2010), Ra.0ne and Don 2 (2011) and his fans are eagerly waiting to see him woo his heroine. Also, he is paired with Katrina Kaif in this one — another major draw. So why is Devgn committing career suicide by releasing his film along one that has so much going for it?

Why? Because he has done it before and is confident of doing it again. Ajay made his debut with a small film Phool Aur Kaante (November 1991) and it released on the same day as Yash Chopra’s Lamhe starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. The YRF film was carrying great reports and trade buzz after special previews was that this film would be unstoppable at the box office. No one even knew a small film starring a fight master’s son was releasing on the same day. Those who knew laughed at the audacity of the filmmaker. But the test was on the day of the release. Lamhe tanked at the box office and Phool Aur Kaante went on to become a major hit. Yashraj’s  film was replaced at many screens by the film of the newcomer no one had heard about. Devgn became an overnight star. And all because he had dared.

Devgn believes that he can repeat history again. This Diwali his single screen friendly film will give a tough competition and beat the multiplex mania of ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’.
