The grand countdown for the biggest releases of this year has begun. The untimely demise of Yash Chopra has garnered sympathetic favors for his last directorial film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, whereas to humbly combat this, the team of Son Of Sardaar is doing their best job in fighting it out!
On the eve of the year’s biggest tussle in Bollywood, Koimoi brings to you the track record of the lead actors who are driving their respective films. Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgn are both actors of great finesse in their independent discipline of work. Shah Rukh Khan debuted in Bollywood with his film Deewana alongside Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti. The action lovers could never forget Ajay’s debut film Phool Aur Kaante. That was the beginning of an illustrious career for both in the tinsel town which almost worships them today.
While promoting his film Son of Sardaar at a radio station, when a radio jockey tossed a question at Ajay Devgn asking him about his exact equation with Shahrukh Khan, Devgn replied: “I wouldn’t call us friends, but not even just acquaintances; we are more than acquaintances.”
He added: “It has so happened that we haven’t spent a lot of time together, but apart from that, we never have a problem with each other! Whenever we meet, we are very nice to each other.”
Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma recently attended a press conference to promote their film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. At the event, Sharukh was asked to tell some good qualities of both his heroines Katrina and Anushka. Shahrukh immediately started praising Anushka but he neglected Katrina and didn’t say much about her, which means he likes Anushka Sharma more than Katrina Kaif!
According to a website, Shahrukh Khan praised Anushka Sharma and said, “She has the potential to see a given scene differently. She tries to bring her own charm in the scene. I like her eyes and her smile is beautiful. She keeps improvising her performance. Also, she is very happy and lively. Wherever she goes, she spreads cheer.”

MUMBAI, Nov. 1 — In a country like India, it has practically become a mandatory ritual for films based on a particular community or minority to get the approval of the representatives of the group, to make sure it is in harmony with their sentiments.
The makers of the soon-to-release Son Of Sardar (SOS) did the same. “We have shown the film to The Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board (PCHB) and they loved it. They have asked for some corrections which have been made,” says Ajay Devgn.
Some time ago, the board had raised an objection to certain dialogues and scenes in SOS. President Charan Singh Sapra suggested that the necessary edits be done in time for the release.
When a big-budget film is due for release, expect controversy. Ditto with Son Of Sardaar.
The Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board had raised objections to the dialogue and some scenes, and producer-actor Ajay Devgn has modified the film according to the board’s requirements. Has this compromised the film?

The more I read about people writing g about Yash Chopra’s flair for great music in films the more I say to myself, ‘ How ridiculous. How uncritical and blinded by clout today’s media writers are! ‘ When I take his contemporaries who have had careers spanning two decades or more, almost everyone has a much better list of films with richer, more iconic, more lasting scores than Yash Chopra. I just took three directors and picked ten best films , musically, from their work, and this is what it looks like.
Shakti Samant ( Howrah Bridge, China Town, Kashmir Ki Kali, Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Anurag, Mehbooba, Amanush, The Great Gambler) From ‘ Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo’ and ‘ Aaiye Meherban’ to “ Roop Tera Mastana’’, ‘ Chingari Koi Bhadke’ and “ Yeh Shsam Mastaani’ … there are any number of songs that will live forever in the hearts of every listener of Hindi film songs. Songs from just three films, ‘ Aradhana’, ‘ Amar Prem’ and ‘ Kati Patang’ will dwarf the entire musical output of Yash Chopra’s films.
Take Raj Khosla now. ( CID, Kla pani, Bomaby Ka Babu, Who Kaun Thi, Mera Saya, Do Raaste, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Prem Kahani, Mein Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki) . Does Yashji have anything to match the classics like ‘ Kahin Pe Nigaahen’, ‘ Hum Bekhudi Mein’, ‘ Achha Ji Main Hari’, Naian Barse Rim Jhim’, ‘ Lag Ja Gale’ , Tum Jahan Jahan Chale’, “ Jhumka Gira Re’, Bindiya Chamkegi, ‘ Maar Diya Jaaye’, or ‘ Aur Kya Ahde Wafa’? For all his vaunted association with Lata , are there any songs that can match ‘ Naina Barse’ or “ Lag Ja Gale’ ?
Take another contemporary, Vijay Ananad. ( Nau Do Gyrah, Kal Bazaar, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Guide Teesri Manzil, Jewel Thief, Johny Mera Naam, Tere Mere Sapne, Blackmail , Ram Balram). Here again, just three films, Guide, Teesri Manzil and Jewl thief cam swamp the entire works of Yashji musically.
WILL LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA WORK DESPITE SKYFALL WAVE?
Like previous weeks, this Friday shall see the release of multiplex (six) Hindi releases. As expected, all of them will have a tough time at the box office, more so because the James Bond film, Skyfall, too hits screens. My analysis on the Hindi films:
LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA: This one seems the best of all 6 releases and has generated excitement among the viewers as well. The theatrical trailer was given thumbs up by viewers and songs too found appreciation. It’s great to see Kunal Kapoor back after ages in a central role. Huma Qureshi, the Gangs Of Wasseypur girl looks ravishing as always. Film also features Rajesh Sharma as Titu Mama and seems to be one of the film’s highlights. Movie has been shot in Punjab and is in a way Bollywood’s first ‘food film’! If response is good, the movie can work really well till Jab Tak Hai Jaan-Son Of Sardaar’s release (Nov 13). Unfortunately, it will be getting limited release and Skyfall can make a dent in its collections.

“Academy award winning director Danis Tanovic who made NO MAN’s LAND is directing this film.”
