3 0Yesterday the way Boi were reporting about Barfi opening it looked it would have at least 10cr opening but it managed to collected around 9cr. Anyway good 1st day number

Barfi! collected around 8.50 crore nett over on its first day. The film was very good in big circuits but let down by smaller circuits. The territorial breakdown for day one is as follows.
Mumbai – 3.20 crore
Delhi/UP – 1.85 crore
East Punjab – 88 lakhs
West Bengal – 40 lakhs
Bihar – 7 lakhs
CP Berar – 31 lakhs
CI – 25 lakhs
Rajasthan – 40 lakhs
Nizam – 39 lakhs
Mysore – 61 lakhs
Others – 20 lakhs
TOTAL – 8.56 crore

2 3This is excellent considering the genre and content of the movie. A deaf & dumb hero, an autistic heroine and an almost silent movie isn’t a crowd pulling concept.
Opening numbers isn’t the only criteria for judging a movie’s quality. And we shouldn’t judge a movie like Barfi with this criteria alone. Nowadays, almost everyone on social media gives preference to only box office numbers.
Movies like Dabangg, Ready, Ra.One, Don2, Singham, Rowdy Rathore, Housefull, Ek Tha Tiger, Singham, Son of Sardar, Dhoom3, etc., are the ones which are designed and aim at breaking records and can/should be judged mainly by that. For movies like Barfi, Paheli, Chak De India, TZP, Dhobi Ghat, Peepli Live, Chillar Party, Guzaarish, OMG, etc, it should be great if they just recover their cost and make no losses for any party involved, while delivering on the quality front.
When a Barfi makes no claims of intending to open big either by the release strategy, promos, marketing or the final product, then it should be judged by the other criteria which it clearly aimed at, and that is by the quality of its craft. And by that standards, it delivers big time!
