I wonder why this is such a cult comedy. I barely laughed at a couple of scenes in the whole movie! Over rated and it will show in the collections of the re-release…

The collections of the re release will prove nothing .. But in my view too it is the most over rated movie ever… I have seen many films from that time that are much better.. But pata nai critics ko is mein kya pasand aata hai

When I watched JBDY, I was expecting laugh riot but it was not.. I was surprised people saying JBDY is cult comedy… But it is very good movie with great mix of comedy and storyline

For me, its one of the best comedies, and one of the best movies ever.

Its a treat for people who enjoy dark comedy and satire.

      Yaah,,

It’s more of a satire than regular comedy.
I have high regards for this movie,,, especially the climax !

shalu/yaku/suprabh..and all Hindi Satire ke lovers

Read “Raag Darbaari” it is best social satire ever written in India.
Written by Srilal shukla in 1969 and in 1970 it got sahitya academy award.
it is still very much relevent and impactful today. It was made into DD serial but dont know the fate as i didnot see it on DD.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL HINDI SATIRE LOVERS

Be it a satire or a black comedy, I think I know what the difference is..n I saw it way back, when I don’t think I even knew the meaning of cult..but except few portions and the climax the movie didn’t really keep me interested. Even on a rewatch after many years.
I’d rather watch a chupke chupke again for it’s smartness! Jbdy had none of it, sadly. Highly over rated imo!

I have not read “Raag Darbaari” but I have read another book written by Srilal shukla, “Pahla Padaav” which was equally enganging.
Regarding JBDY, it is one of the best film I have watched so far. This is not a laugh riot like AAA or HP, but, it is thrilling and enganging through out, at least for me.
And, the Mahabharat scene was just epic.

just read reviews of Raag-D ..and u will get glimpse of its greatness…
saari satires ek taraf..Raag-D ek taraf.

@iitianway – totally agree with u on raag darbaari.

premchand;s novels had good satire too, especially ranngbhoomi but other themes and elemnts dominated. as for pur satire, nothing beats raag darbaari.

somehow i have not read many great satires in english. i ma not counting much ado abt nothing type comedies with elements of satire. but english dystopian fiction is excellent. stuff like animal farm etc.

for english i recently read one …..and it is not based on satire and not for satire…but best of satire u will find throughout..writer ke likhne ka andaz
