Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaalia to be remade
Three of today’s top stars, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, are on producer Rajat Rawail’s wishlist for his remake of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Kaalia, a film whose Hindi remake rights he picked up at `3 crore.
With Big B film remakes finding success at the box office, it remains to be seen which star will step into his rather big shoes for this film.
Rajat confirms picking up Kaalia‘s rights but declines from commenting on casting. “I’m indebted to Salman Bhai because whatever I’m today is after his association with my film, Ready. I have a high regard for Ajay Sir for thebrilliant actor he is and Akshay Sir is one of the biggest box-office phenomena,” he conceded, stressing that his priority was to get the script right. For that, he has to first get a director on board.
He explained, “Once I have the director on board, we’ll get a writing team in place to give the story a contemporary feel. Only after the script is ready, will I approach a top star and I hope that whoever I offer the film, agrees to act in it.”
Ask Rawail why he picked Kaalia and he puts it down to great content and brand value. “In today’s times, I see more potential for Kaalia as a brand than it had way back then. While it has hard-hitting lines — like ‘Hum jahaan khade ho jaate hain, line vahin se shuru ho jaati hai – it also has fantastic music for an action film. You remember the songs of Kaalia, like Jahaan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai, Jabse Tumko Dekha, and Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne,” elaborates Rajat, who is also keen to retain a couple of songs from the original film and the background score with Kaalia echoing in it.
About the original Kaalia
Directed by Tinnu Anand, the film follows the journey of a simpleton Kallu. His tryst with crime starts when he attempts to steal from the house of Jaswant Shahani ( Amjad Khan) after his brother (Kadar Khan) meets with a serious accident at the former’s factory. But it’s too late as his brother dies. Then Shahani gets Kallu arrested for the robbery. How Kallu becomes the don Kaalia and takes revenge from Shahani forms the crux of the story.

1 1Doing the same role that Amitji has already made a household name is not easy, i wish any newcomer does this or else if any big star does it there ought to be a lot of comparisons and whole industry will be divided in their opinion because then all will rate it based on the previous performances rather than on d present product as a new film.Remember Don nd Agneepath. Whoever of the three does the film it good ,the only thing should be it gets a good director nd a great dialogue writer cuz old. version. Is known for its seeti maaro stuff.

5 6@yakuza – no big deal. many films have been remade twice so far including devdas and many legendary love stories like laila majnu, heer rajha etc.
earlierthe trend was to remake with changes – so ganga jamuna and mother india get combined into deewaar (as if bachchan was a huge original) and the manificient 7 became sholay. now a days ppl are more honest (forcibly due to copyrights act) and give credit to the film they are copying.
@kumar3798@aditya007 – amitabh bachchan had hammed like hell in agnipath.if u say ist my view, a comparison of the fate of both agnipaths will show hrithik interpreted the role bettr. he did not try hamming and fake techniques like voice modulation (i personally found him very ordinary too)

AMITABH BACHCHAN
There might be an never-ending debate on how perhaps the Movie business has changed in the last 30 odd years. Actors are doing increasingly lesser movies(though this trend started in the 2000?s only),increase in other mediums of entertainment, and so on.
On the other hand there have been booms too for the industry with Music(in 90?s) , Sattellite/Cable(2000?s) providing a very good avenue for Movie Revenue thus helping a lot in the movie’s recovery.
Also can be said that modes of promotions has also increased by leaps and bounds.
But leaving the above behind, and going movie to movie, Amitabh Bachchan hit an extreme purple patch for almost 15-16 years between 1973-88.
The Innings is interesting for the amount of movies done and the success rate achieved.
Infact of the 63 movies Bachchan did in that period only 7 movies faced monetary losses of any kinds, thus a loss making movie used to an Event for Amitabh Bachchan.
Also, Amitabh Bachchan had atleast 1 hit a year for 14 straight years(1973-86).

Ek Tha Tiger budget is 70crores not 100crores and it already got passed 140crores and doing much more than that.
and one can’t compare verdict system of two different generation as in both generations there are different factors determining the criteria o giving so comparison is wrong.

2 1one thing is sure that amitabh in his prime he was 1 to 10. nobody before and after seen that kind of success. so the iconic line only suits on him ” jaha pe hum kade hote hai line wahi se suru hoti hai.” rahi baat khans ki they are big star but in 7os and 80s dharamenda and vinod khanna has been as big star as khans. in history of indian cinema dharamendra has given most no of hits after amitabh. recently ABP news channel AND NILSON had conducted a poll in 28 cities and amitabh has been voted most no of votes (22%). more than any other actor even salmaan and srk get 19% and 13% respectively. so even in this age he is amazing.

and one dialogue being famous means wat? everyone remebers the ‘teri pungi baja doonga’ dialogue from hello brother and all those pungi scenes. doesa that make hello brother a classic?
and hrithik’s performance was more liked by ppl, boxoffice proves that.

amitabh’s magic lasted all of 9 years, salman has been regining for 24 years.

@kumar3798 – the late ashok kumar, a family freind of amitabh wa sthe cheif of jury in 1990, a year wen the entire jury was filled with commercial bollywood names. just like raveena won best actor for satta the year her mama, mac mohan (sambha) was on teh jury. all wards come with lobbying at worst and are opinions of individuals at best and dont emean anything.
this will be further proved by the fact that amitabh won no awards for zanjeer, sholay, muqaddar ka sikandara and even deewaar, his best work. i care two hoots for awards.

komal’s filminformation did not update their methodology thats why i dont accept their verdicts. they want all films to be judged in pre-vidieo-tv era basis.
