Where do Bollywood stars rank globally on popularity?
It is not an uphill challenge to find out the most popular actors in India, especially Bollywood. For nearly two decades, The Hindi film industry has been ruled by the ‘three Khans’ – Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir. Of the same age, the three stars took different routes to stardom in their own style and manner.
They are still the most sought after, arguably the highest paid and most popular stars in India, at least the Hindi film industry. Starcount, the leading social media aggregator of networks confirms that the three stars are indeed the most popular on social media(Twitter, Facebook and others) as well. Not much separates the three, with Shah Rukh leading Salman and Aamir by a whisker.
The question is where do they rank globally in the most popular actors list. How do they compare with the heavyweights in the West and Asian stars on socialmedia?
The global chart provided by starcount provides the answers. As of today, Shah Rukh is at 44, just ahead of Russel Brand. Salman is at 50 and Aamir is at a close 53.(Note: The star positions change periodically with increase in fans on the different social networks).
The interesting insight is that some of the biggest stars globally are actors who have also been involved in music like Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake.
It is also pertinent to note that there are some Asian icons in the list, who cannot be overlooked. Jackie Chan, perhaps the 1st global star from Asia is at No.4 and He Jiong, the multi faceted actor/singer/TV star from China. Of course, the findings are specific to online/social media popularity.
The most popular Indian superstars make it nearly to the Top 50, and are likely to even climb up the ranks. But, they are still a few furlongs below the likes of the truly world famous ones.
