‘Ek Tha Tiger’ Need Not Carry Any Burden
Its not imperative upon ek tha tiger to break 3 idiots’ record of 202 cr. if anything, its imperative upon aamir (and srk) to break the inflation adjusted record of ‘hum aapke hain kaun’ first. the only thing imperative upon salman is to break the inflation adjusted record of sholay. but then its imperative upon amitabh bachchan to break the inflation adjusted record of hum aapke hain kaun with a solo hero film.
its not imperative upon ek tha tiger to be an atbb. salman already has 3 and a half atbbs. first its imperative upon shahrukh khan to get one and a half atbb (one solo hero), aamir to get another atbb in special apperance and so also for bachchan. its also imperative upon aamir and bachchan to get 1 and 3 solo hero atbbs respectively.
its not imperative upon ek tha tiger to be the biggest hit of the year. if at all, its imperative upon sharukh to get 4 more biggest hits of the year, aamir to get equal number more and amitabh to get 3 more biggest hits of the year.
its not imperative upon ETT to be a blockbuster. not a super hit. nor a clean hit. or semi hit. or average. even if ek tha tiger flops it doesnt wipe out the 25 years old records of salman khan which are already at par with amitabh bachchan and dilip kumar and sligtly ahead of sharukh khan. as for aamir khan he is far behind. aur ye peechhe se kutton ki tarah ‘akshay-akshay’ kaun chilla raha hai?
frustrated and scared of salman’s golden run, some clever ppl are setting very high targets for ETT in order to declare it a flop if it doesnt meet those crazy targets. but lets consider the following.
salman’s golden run didnt start witha 150 cr production but with really average budget movies.
salman’s golden run did not start with a huge media hype (genuine, manyfactured, or paid) the hype followed the golden run.
salman’s golden run didnt happen after ‘wasting’ huge opportunities like ra1, mela, magal pandey etc. it has involved a very viable ‘wastage’ (medium budget films that mostly recover from all avenues included)
so salman khan doesnt owe any one a huge blockbuster success. not to the industry, not to the media (which has never doen anything for him) not to the haterz and not even to his fans (we are very happy already with what we have got from him). if he still gives it, it will be a bonus. usse kisi ka udhaar nahin chukana.
so stop these clever tricks like “ek tha tiger needs to do atleast 125 cr to be a hit”. its a 65 cr film and if its distributor share+ rights sold exzceed 65 cr, its a success.
and hit, super hit, bb, atbb tag will also be given in accordance with industry parctices. not on haterz challenges.
in no way is ETT going to seal salman’s fate. his talent has already done that.
