@ved z – boxoffice ke alaawa koi tareeka nahin hai popularity ko naapne ka.

an actor is as popular as the number of tickets he sells, magazine covers/endorsemnts/surveys/awards notwithstanding.

becoz those are decided by individuals or groups of individuals and the views of those in a position of power ( magazine editors, awards jury mebers etc) prevail.

boxoffice is the way to find out if an actor is really popular. not even surveys (unless they are really comprehensive) prove anything.

ATBB, super hit, AAA, aaa+ all that can keep changing i agree.

but there is one factor that doesnt change. it takes into account changing market dynamics. its takes into account the competition. it takes into account inflation adjustment. it takes into account piracy. it takes into account almost every other parameter.and thats the biggest hit of the year.

except for the fact that it is defined too technically ( a film released in last week of december can be declared the biggest hit of the year despite a film released in 1st week of january, but that is a rare aoccurance) apart from that ‘biggest hit of the year is the perfect way to judge the level of a star.

so how many biggest hits of the year does amitabh bachchan have?

LOL shahid perfomrance in JWM or in kaminey is no where near salman’s performance in Karan arjun and AAA. in both the films salman performance was 100times better than shahid.

shahid will not be able to do even 1 % of what salman did initially in films like karan arjun and AAA.

karan arjun HAHK AAA khamoshi mpk baghi saajan veergati sanam bewafa

forget giving such performance none of he current stars can even think of acting in so many diverse genre film.

Danish tere lihaaj se Hera Pheri 2000 jyada poular hai ke Hera Pheri 2006…… Paise kisi ne bhi kamaye ho Hera Pheri 2000 popular bhi jyada hai aur uski reputation nhi acchi hai

Aur Ab bata Salman Tere Naam(semihit) main jyaada yaad kiya jaata hai Ya Biwi No.1(superhit) se . Answer is Tere Naam Radhey.

Bo applies 70 % to stardom not 100 % , their are many other factors

so har jagah football or Boss office apply mat kiya karo

@vedz – there is no proof of hera pheri (2000) being more poupular than hera pheri (1976) ( by teh way why the example of films with same title? you cud have taken the example of any ‘perception hit vs ‘genuine hit’)

coming back to hera pheri (2000) apart from not sselling many tickets at the boxoffice, there was never any news of its having record breaking TRPs (like dabangg, 3 idiots, singham, bodyguard) so lest assume hera pheri 2000 is not a very popular film.

now it cud have been liked by the group of ppl u move in, some naachgaana members, some college friends (most coming from a single socio-economic background, same gender, same sensinbilities) but in the overall universe of bollywood, (which includes my grandmom, uncle zaheer (48 years old and a huge bachchan fan, ramwati the fictional village woman in my poem on 15th august) hera pheri is not at all a popular film.

@ved z – there is no way you can find out salman tere nama se zyaada yaad kiya jaata hai ya biwi no one se. but biwi no 1 ki tickets bhi tere naam se zyaada biki thi aur trp bhi better aati hai (it was mostly telecast on prime time weekends slots, tere nama is not).

boxoffice and head count (including footfall/TRP/DVD sales/Internetdownloads) are the 100% and only proof of superstardom. har jagah subjective opinions nahin laaya karo.

TV pe trp rating dekha kar mere bhai …. un khabro ka jo ads ke time dekhayi jaati hai screen shot to tumhe la kar de nai skta.

Similar was the case with Amitabh’s Jaadugar 1989

ab tu thoda thoda samajhne laga hai , line pe aa raha hai good

@ved z – main hemasha line pe tha, the scientific line!

i do understand the importance of TRP but there is a difference between it and boxoffice. trp is partly due to a passive activity while boxoffice is totally active and hence a (disproportinatley) bigger proof of popularity.

also its very important to not overestimate internet downloads data as its very small penetration. in any case there is no nodal agency providing that data (like boi for boxoffice and trp for tv)

aur aaj tak kahin maine hera pheri ki high trp ki kahbar na dekhi, na padhi. link ho to do. (data waala link, kisis middle class journalist oy ke views waala nahin)

    and wats with jadugar example?

salman’s performance in mpk and hahk is better than any romantic movies of shahid kapoor including jab we met.his karan arjun along wid srk is better than any action movie of shahid.his aaa is better than any shahid comic movie..though boxoffice may prove otherwise for aaa.

danish might aim a misssile at me for wat i am about to say :D but AAA and hera pheri imo are the only movies tht completely blow boxoffice theory out of the water. But every theory has its own exceptions..kyun hai na danish :D ?

and same case can be made for aamir and shahrukh.

and why glorify yesteryears superstars by trying to undermine the achievements of present superstars. They were great in their own rights and present superstars are superstars in their own right

by the way i was expecting a kind of floyd mayweather vs manny pacquiao showdown between yakuza and doga in terms of boxoffice.

doga bhai apna battery recharge karo…amitabh ka naam lete hi yakuza ka battery toh fultu charge ho chuka hai :D

Well, i have Filmfare magazine scan from 1978 which explains following things :

    1. The term superstar used for Rajesh Khanna first.
    2. But in real sense first ever super star was Shammi Kapoor.
    3. Amitabh is first superstar whose 6 movies always running simultaneously in one city.
    4. They were predicting same fate of Amitabh like Rajesh Khanna, because old superstars like Dev Anand etc always did one movie at one time and have long lasted career. So they were predicting sharp fall of Amitabh very soon because of over exposure.

Will upload the scan later today.

    amitabh , rajesh khanna , dilip kumar r the original superstars..and evrgreen\

    just wanna ask u guyzzzz

wat wer the status of sunny deol , sanjay dutt and anil kapoor during 1990s???

wer they big stars or a superstar ??

    Mujtaba

Suny Deol, Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor were Superstars in Indian crowd but a short term superstars …. which further makes them just Big Stars.

But who know in late 80′s and early 90′s that their stardom will be short term so thay enjoyed full fledged superstardom in early 90′s and then 3 Khans , Akshay,Ajay overshadowed them and are shining till today.

I hope you would understand now
