THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has set new benchmarks for Hollywood releases even though collections started dipping from Tuesday onwards especially for the dubbed versions of the film.

The film has grossed around 41 crore nett over the first week which is by far the highest opening week total for a Hollywood release beating the 27 crore nett figure of 2012.

The 41 crore nett figure is more than the lifetime business of most Hindi releases of 2012. Only 6-7 Hindi releases have managed to do more than 41 crore nett lifetime business in 2012.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has taken the potential for Hollywood films to another level and big Hollywood releases are likely to get even wider releases and now they are the best bet after a big budget Hindi film is a big Hollywood release. The biggest plus for Hollywood releases like THE AVENGERS and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is they have acceptance in the interiors which films like TERI MERI KAHAANI, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR, FERRARI KI SAWAARI etc will never get.

Meawhile,THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN had a huge drop in collections on its eighth day as the film grossed around 1.50 crore nett. The drop from day one is around 82%. The film, however, shall cross the 50-crore-mark at the box office.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will emerge the third highest grosser from Hollywood in terms of nett collections after 2012 (2009) and AVATAR (2009) with THE AVENGERS (2012) and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 (2011) in fourth and fifth place respectively.

GANGS OF WASSEYPUR collected 7.86 crore nett in its second week. The drop is 60% from the first week which is fair though the first week was low. The two week business of the film is around 25.56 crore nett.

The film had the potential to collect well in week two as multiplexes retained it with a good number of shows but with the word of mouth being decent in a just a few areas the film had low occupancies.

It was important for GANGS OF WASSEYPUR to find appreciation even if box office numbers remained low as it has a second part and appreciation would have helped the second part put up much better numbers than the first part.
