Have you ever witnessed bizarre situation in a cinema hall?

****FIRST ONE****
Well, one interesting thing- in 2009 when I went to see KAMBAKKHT ISHQ second time (god knows why I was watching a boring film again.) Only 10-15 people in theater and almost all were boys and college going. There was a man in front of me recording the film. I said him that his cell phone will be taken off and he will be suspended from the theater. He seemed to have to have come to a multiplex for the first time and he retorted me saying “Arre mene sau baar ye sab kia hua hai.”

I then did not want to discuss much So I neglected the issue. After 15mins or so, one of the theater servant noticed it and directly warned him “you have to stop this activity or else your cell phone will be taken off.”

Not giving too much importance to his warning, within just three to four minutes he started it yet again. That same servant came with another one and snatched the cell phone. That man started advertising whatever he knows of theater halls by saying “Arre ye mene pehle bhi kiya hua hai. Aur aapne aise cell khinchne ki himmat kaise ki?”

Obviously, everyone got disturbed and was making funny noises as if they are watching the film without blinking their eyes even for once. I was laughing but the issue got even more dramatic when that man physically hit that servant. The servant started same thing and the film was stopped for time mean. The owner turned up and settled it off, but the other audience were quite annoyed by this and demanded refunds! And as you know- “Junta is the king.” :D

****SECOND ONE****

It was when watching KAL HO NAA HO in a single screen at 9.30pm show in Balcony class. It was pretty much full but some seats at corners were empty. After first 10-15 minutes of the film, there was a group of friends arrived. They started arguing with the people who sat on their place. The argument got more intense and the show was turned off for few minutes. When the manager stepped in, he discovered two tickets of same seats were sold. And there were 7-8 such seats of which two tickets were sold for same show!

Then the owner offered them the corner seats and gave them 50% of ticket price back in interval. And the film was not resumed from where it was paused; they instead have to start it from beginning.

****THIRD ONE****

As you guys know DUM MAARO DUM was released with paid preview shows on Thursday. So the first paid preview show was at 6.15pm. But it was 6.25pm and the show was still not started. The impatient viewers got up from their seats and bothered to know why the film was not started yet! The owner without giving many details said that the show will start within 5-10 minutes.

It was 6.45pm and then some viewers were frustrated. They called for refunds. There was a group of three men and they said that they want to catch a train at 9.15pm so they need to get back their money.

So out of some 90 odd people, 15-20 were in anger and started arguing with the owner. Then the real reason came out for the delay. The reason bewildered me- there was no print available yet! The distributor didn’t provide the print at time. By 7pm, many got refunds. So the few remained asked that till what time they will have to wait? The owner said just 5 minutes.

Finally the film started at 7.20pm and they kept the interval just for 3 minutes instead of 15 minutes.
And thankfully I saw it and loved the film. And my review of DMD was posted by Milind bro as I wasn’t blessed with posting rights back then :D

I just shared away my three such moments which we seldom observe at cinemas. If you have ever witnessed, please share!

For Bodyguard i have to pay twice .. i booked two tickets in advance for Sunday evening show and when we reached for show, i get to know that ticket i was issued was for past date. I had to bought another tickets for current show. Movie was just average so paying double price pinched a lot and more over show was just 40% full. This was shocking as it was first Sunday and i was at premium multiplex of NCR.

First- I was watching Biwi No. 1 at Annam Cinema, Amritsar. It was 4th June my brother’s birthday. I was sitting on corner seat of 4th row from last. On the extreme corner seat of Balcony last row, a girl (may be 20 y) was sitting with skirt upto her knees. At interval I found her legs open but no good voyeur and just under her seat a red colour board was there written thereon “AC Chalu Hai”-(in hindi). And i always smiled whenever I read AC Chalu hai (you know what I mean)

I was watching HAHK in its 6th-7th week (30% audience). A mother fed baby was crying again and again and disturbing. Someone behind me shouted (sorry I have to be in Punjabi now which shows actual bizzareness”)
Someone shouted – “madam kake de muh ch mamma pao”
Male family member of baby (probably father)- “yeh kaun kutta bhaunk raha hai”
Again first one- “madam pehle ehde (isde) muh ch pao”
    (sorry mods for bad language)
Now there was complete silence for few seconds except the movie and the baby who was still crying. There were whispers and bursts of silent laughs.

having claimed on NJG that i found the trailors of ‘jo hum chaahien’ promising (it had 2 good songs) i went to watch it in a thter. i watched it alone. yes i was the only one in the theatre.

recently i was in mumbai and wen to check out ddlj show at maratha mandir. 1st i was shocked to klnow that ticket price in the premium multiplex is still just 15-17-20 rs. i thot there wont be anyone but there were around 20 ppl in the theatrer. i wanted to chck wat kind of ppl watch it still. well i relazed most of them were either beggers or very low paid labours. most of the boys/men did not have shirts on, jsut ganjis with lungi etc. the 4-5 women were also in the same condition. i kept changing seats to see ppl from close as i was wondering why wud it happen. well soon i realized the truth. 14 odd ppl of the 20 strong crowd were sleeping in the chilled airconditioned cvonfines in the scorching and humid june heat of mumbai.

I had gone for the night show of U, Me aur Hum in its 4th week or so in a multiplex. I was the only one in theater. The theater guy came after 10 minutes and requested me to come some other time, and my ticket would be valid for any other show for any other movie so that I can go out and they could stop the show. I said “pareshaan na kar, mujhe show dekhne de”. Then again 25 minutes into the movie he came again and said, “Sir, 2 tickets le lo,platinum class ki, popcorns and drinks free, par ye show rehne do, sirf aapke liye inni bijli waste ho rahi hai”..I told him, “abki baar tu aaya na, toh tumhare theater ki complaint kar dunga.” Then, he made a sad face and left. Fortunately, for me, I ended up liking the movie.

In another incident, I had gone to see Mai Hoon Na, with my Mami ji. We were finding the movie really unbearable but still decided to continue with it. Sometime in the first half, that scene came, where Srk in a rickshaw chased a scorpio on a mission impossible background score. We both looked at each other and mutually decided enough with this torture, and walked out of the theater. When we came out my mami said, Mahindra (the makers of Scorpio) should sue these people !! :D

@aryan29 – this experience can be had at maratha mandir daily. they are feeding the ddlj at the cost of loosing at least 1 cr a year. that money shud be deducted from ddlj collections. imagine 17 cr less fom 61 cr will become 54 cr lifetime nett fort ddlj.

MUMBAI: If thespian Dilip Kumar’s film `Mughal-E-Azam’ ran at Maratha Mandir for over six years, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer `Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ has completed 14 years of continuous run at the same theatre. The film enters its 15th year on Tuesday at Maratha Mandir and the exhibitor is quite optimistic that the theatre will have a houseful board.

Managing director of Maratha Mandir, Manoj Desai, said, “The film completes 14 years in our cinema hall and we still get at least 60-70% occupancy on weekdays and a houseful board on weekend and holidays. Whoever claims that it is not doing well can come and check our cinema hall.” (Thats why Danish went there to check?????)

Danish went to watch SRK’s old DDLJ is itself a lie. Maratha Mandir is losing 1 crore each year again manipulated, why are they running then??? Can Danish tell me what was the ticket rate?
I have heard from someone in Mumbai that actual audience in Maratha Mandir is gfs-bfs, lovers, poors etc.

Tell me are they Beggars with Lungis and Ganjis…????

Danish could have this experience from the row outside the ticket window of maratha Mandir…No need to enter the cinema hall. And see he kept changing his seat to see the faces, apparel of audience……. Danish jhooth bolna chhod do …bahut ho chuka…Aryan bhi tumhara hi bhai hai….

I can agree at one point that those audience are not one of the SRK die hard fans…there are people like foreigners, Gfs-Bfs ( lovers), poors as tickets rates are low, a very few may be srk die hard fans….Though yash raj giving rentals but I cannot agree that Maratha mandir is losing 1 crore each year and see Danish reducing 17 crores from collections as if they are losing 1 crores from the onset of release of DDLJ.
Who want to lose money just for records….

two incident both from nishat cinema, kanpur of 90s..

    1. MPK ..evening show…housefull. Two tkts were distributed for each seats ..had to share movie with my frnd….but good thing no one checked the tkt so it was full and alive…came out of cinema hall ..next show housefull…people saw tkt in my hand and asked bhaiya kitne ka hain(yeh nahin poocha kab ka hain)..hamne utne hi kemat mein becha aur nikal liye…woh bhi khush ..aur hum log bahut khush.

    2. DDLJ..
scene -a: by that time we had good repo with nishat cinema owner…he used to give tkt for our choice of seats…show was nearly housefull but we got our tkt booked ealier for c-17/18/19 our fav in nishat. but by mistake cinema guy sold same seat numbers to three other muslim ladies too..:) …we came late to hall and saw three ladies sititng on our seat…we made hungama and finally got our seats.

scene-b: movie started..and srk started his “acts”. I said yaar yeh shahruk saanp ki tarah jeev kyon nikaal raha hain..to dost bola are jeev to kutte bhi nikalte hian tab mein bola are kutta to nikala ke latka leta hain par yeh to andar bahar kar raha hain…tabhi peeche se koi bola ..bhaisahab par picture bahut badiya hain. hum chup.
scene-c: kuch der baad kajol amrish se poochti hain ki daddy mujhe europe trip par chale jaane do ..and jindagi jee lene do ..mera dost bola ..kya chutiyapa hain yeh saala abhi tak kya kar rahi thi aur woh bhi baap ke saamne bol rahi hain…tabhi peeche waala ..par bhaisahab picture to bahut badiya hain..ham phir chup.

scene- d:”last and final”(for us) scene me jab kajol and sharrukh saath mein raat gujaar ke subah shahrukh kajol ko bolta hain ki maine raat mein tumahre saath sab kuch kar diya to woh rone lagti hain..but thodi der baad phir bolta hain …arre maine kuch nahin kiya ..tab woh bolti hian .. phir theek hain…..ab hamse nahin raha gaya..hamne kaha yeh kya ghanghor chutiyaapa chal raha hain..ki saala uske saath kuch bhi ho jaaye to use pata hi nahin chalta ..aur ham uthne lage…peeche se awaz aayi ..bhai sahab picture vaastav mein bahut badiya hain …ham bole badiya hain to dekho hamein kyon dikha rahe ho…aur aaj tak DDLJ compelte nahin kar paaye. :)

lol danish.. :D they are definitely loosing money for more than a decade but my friend working in etv marathi news channel when inquired about it for news report he and his team came to know that the owner of maratha mandir has no problem as it is financed not only with refund but also with profits by yrf. he also reported the news some of the hindi news channel also followed it at that time in 2008-09 .

anyway i with my friends also saw lower class couples performing sex there :D

IBy the way I saw bits and pieces of DDLJ in early 2000′s. But in 2007 the film re-released in Solapur and I went to watch it alone because I was never able to understand the extra-ordinary things said about this film.

It was boring and also too much in-your-face. Liked few moments and songs, but it was just way too long.

ROFL at the those pictures.they are clearly old pictures taken atleast before 9-10years.forget danish i myself have seen exactly what danish is saying and even much more worse than that.

anyone can confirm this also from college students living near maratha mandir or mumbai.even general public knows it 99% of the time maratha mandir is empty and remaining time its not more than 2-3people watching it that also lower class couples.and its running just for the sake of it.probably because they are being financed to do that. There can be no other reason for making run DDLJ just for the sake of it in empty hall.

    online_munde,

In the past other members of NG have had this debate, that whether YRF is paying maratha Mandir or whether the film still is managing to do reasonable enough business to manage cost for one show a day.

I was involved in the debate last time it happened, and there was one point I made that nobody could refute.

    Here’s that point.

” In the times of Ghajini, wanted, Dabangg, Singham, Bodyguard, Even Ra.one, Dhoom 2, Krrish, Singh is Kingg, Rowdy Rathore.. wouldn’t playing any of these movies for atleast the initial weekend make more profit for the theater owner rather than a 15 year old DDLJ.”

Can’t Maratha Mandir Play either of the movies I mentioned above (when they released) for 1-2 weeks and then return to DDLJ screening once their run is over. don’t you think it would make maratha mandir more money that way?

Its clear why Maratha Mandir is playing DDLJ CONTINUOSLY

  24. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

@ “Maratha Mandir is losing 1 crore each year”

Whoever thinks so is living in Pseudo land making his own pseudo theories. Yash Raj was paying rental of Rs 20,000 per week for morning slot till 2007, don’t know if there is any revision in rates till then. Manoj desai is not at any loss at all .. he is enjoying fixed rental. Yash raj is taking money collected from ticket sales, its best known to them if they are recovering money or making profits. But in any case, its just an expense of 9.60 Lakh per year, not a big deal for Yash Raj.
