However, I personally believe that every movie that sustained after a smashing opening week deserves to be in this group..
I strongly disagree with VVC’s rants, as just because of these 100 crore movies, big production houses like UTV get the money and balls to make smaller movies.
All credits to Stars who get the big openings and the directors who make such sustaining movies… I simply disregard the fact that a movie is bad when it is sustaining for weeks and competition from other movies…
Most of us netizens hardly watch movies in cinemas, and prefer watching them on our laptops, so in any case we are not the judge… Ask those who spend money and stand in queues to buy tickets and then enjoy those 2 hours on a 70mm screen with hoots and whistles…

0 0This is Irony that Dabangg did 140+ and Wanted around 60. However all Credit for business of Dabangg should go to Wanted which was driving force behind pulling audience to cinemas. Every one expected this to be another wanted, but it was not even close.
And this is where all those so called scientific method fails. Based on boxoffice, Dabangg looks more liked .. but in reality it was Wanted which was heavily liked and was main factor behind success of Dabangg.

@yakuza – going by ur views on wanted/dabangg can we say that it was ‘mera gaon mera desh’ (1972) that deserved to be the 15 cr grosser and not sholay (1975) ? i mean mera gaon mera desh had more similarities with sholay than wanted had with dabangg. in their case all u can say (based entirely on ur subjective opinion aka axxhole) that the element of action was repeated in both. in sholay apart from the actiopn part there was the theme of revenge, protecting a village from the dacoits, , taking the help of a petty criminal to do that, the guy who plans it (if i remeber correctly) had lost a limb and the dacoit was named jabbar singh while sholay dacoit was called gabbar singh)

This is difference between movies and cricket. Cricket is a game where one has to win and its shelf life is up to the time when match finishes. But cinema is artistic medium, a platform to display art. And judgement of art can never be based on ticket sales. Shelf life of movie much-much more than 3 hours duration. There are many mediums where a movie can be seen apart from cinemas. Even today we see 50 years old movies on DVD or Satellite channel and give opinion. “Phir Hera Pheri” was Super Hit and did 3 times business than “Hera pheri” which was just average at boxoffice, still we all know which movie was more liked. And this thread is about Which movie deserved super hit .. Hera Pheri .. or Phir Hera Pheri … and you know answer. However no one can change history at boxoffice, but we can discuss the destiny of mis-happenings.

But platform for hera pheri, it came after 15 flops or average ( if we remove ddlj).
It was promoted as action & not a comedy. PHP has a platform ( sequel of a succesfull comedy, every year after hp- akshay gave atleast one decent film).

0 0No matter how much people (specifically netizens) dislike Ready, HF2 and Golmaal Series…. But it is a fact that these movies sustained and hence could put up such big numbers on BO with big competition from other movies and reasons..
HF2 has become a case study for many producers, as many of them are still wondering how did this movie manage to collect such a big amount when IPL was going on and it stayed and collected handsome amounts in all its running weeks, with IPL going on simultaneously.
The only reason why Ready, Golmaal 2, and HF2 are in the list is because they were liked by masses and had the repeat value…
RA1, BG and Don2 are the movies that showed steep fall from the second week… They did collect good amount worldwide due to hype and excessive marketing, but couldn’t sustain afterwards.
Also, there is one fact that needs to be considered, i.e. the maximum members of 100 cr group are comedies and action….

@Talaash With Ra-one there are Certain other FACTORS It was the most EXPENSIVE film ever in BOLLYWOOD.Promoted for 9months or so.Highest ever Marketing of a bollywood film.Expected to create HISTORY at the BO with HISTORICAL SUCCESS(250-300cr).It had all such advantages and conditions including HIGHEST Number of prints ever and HIGH Ticket prices(No major competiton,Diwali Holidays,Open weeks)
So 115crore was a clear BIG failure for it.Ra-one at normal prices and conditions would have not even crossed 80crore.Forget BG and Ready even a film like SINGHAM would have done atleast 130 if provided even half of the advantages Ra-one had.so Ra-one was a clear FAILURE.Period.
And Bodyguard was overall liked film aisai koi blockbuster tag nhn milta.

Aryan – You’re right on to an extent on Ra One but whoever was predicting 250+ crore for Ra One must be an idiot, even if it were a SRK fan. Yes I would say it could’ve had potential to hit 200 if the film was good with positive WOM but the fact is that it just was promoted well and had an awesome opening. Honestly no one really knows how much SRK really spent on Ra One, some say 175, some say 150, some even say 75, only SRK knows how much. I am really surprised the film ended at 115 because it had horrible WOM, no trending whatsoever but it still ended at 115, no matter how you look at it, its not easy getting to 115 so I applaud that much because 115 crores is 150 crores at the end of the day.
Just imagine this, it got 115 crores with negative horrible WOM, imagine how much it would’ve done if it had positive WOM, you see the difference there?
At the end of the day, I still applaud SRK for the effort he put into Ra One, he did something different, he put crapload of money into SFX, tried to bring a new genre out while you have superstars barely going out of their norm.
I know we’ve had our issues with Salman but honestly speaking I like Salman, always watch his films with family on Eid and he is going through a fantastic awesome phase but I hope he goes past the South Action OTT Masala film, I just dont want him to get repetitive.
