Sanket’s Review: “Ferrari Ki Sawaari” definitely deserves a chance.

Cast: Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Ritvik Sahore, Paresh Rawal.

Director: Rajesh Mapuskar

Length: 2.15 hours approximately.

In an early scene Sharman Joshi with his kid on his moped, ends up breaking the signal unintentionally but fails to find a traffic inspector to p[ay the penalty. So the moment he finds an inspector few paths ahead, he pays it and indirectly it decodes as a message to his son about sincerity. And if you feel this is over-the-top, then yes, FERRARI KI SAWAARI is a total over-the-top film. There are two stories which revolve in and the director smartly amalgamates both and finds a smoother part out of it. The first being a big dream of a middle class son and his dad and the other one being the lost Ferrari car.

Not entirely satisfying, the first takes haywire situations. There are many plot stuck in the film and each one has two sides to it. Devoid of simplicity, these plots are funny but at times dragged. Some scenes which are surely unnecessary are pulled so much that it becomes tasteless like the one where a politician’s son wants to have a Ferrari drive in his marriage ceremony. The whole plot is contrived and mostly juvenile. But the moments in the beginning when things are easy, lightens up the atmosphere.

But its second half where things speed up! The emotions are extracted in right proportion without giving away the peppy fun look what the film has. In final few minutes, FERRARI KI SAWAARI takes it momentum at all time high and ends up with a sweet note. If you like to see films where the colony members of the protagonists rejoices the sixes and fours of the protagonist and they come out of their house and hover all around, then this one well could be a summer gift to you.

The script may not be that tight because of some bizarre plots indulged unnecessarily. But Rajesh Mapuskar shows his ability and excels in what he does. Come to think of it, its not an easy project, because if the emotions are out of zenith or the comedy is very bad then such films sink without a trace. But thankfully Rajesh Mapuskar is blessed with enough aesthetics and knows how to make the audience part of the film. And that is why this film definitely deserves a watch. Music is fine, though the choreography of “Mala Jau De” is mediocre. The editing especially in first half should have been crispier.

Sharman Joshi delivers a crackling performance as a helpless yet hard-working Dad and a son. He remains in sync for every second. Boman Irani does superb in his role. His expressions are so natural that you connect to his life instantly. Ritvik Sahore as a sensible and outstanding cricketer does his role with aplomb. All supporting cast is amazing. Director deserves special mention for having so many characters and yet drawing good performances from each.

FERRARI KI SAWAARI is a good family cinema. In today’s times it’s a rare such cinema which will bring the families together. Despite of few blemishes, the film works and definitely touches you.

Rating- 3/5 (Good)

Serenzy, Yakuza, The Worldwide Distributors are paying VVC price just to collaborate with team of 3 idiots and Munnabhai,

    here, http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/1439496/

The upcoming Sharman Joshi – Boman Irani starrer Ferrari Ki Sawaari has already earned Rs.65 crores for its producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Despite the film’s release being over a month away, the makers seem to be making money already.

It is learnt that collectively, the film’s theatrical, satellite, music and home video rights have been sold for a whopping Rs. 65 crores. However, the biggest chunk comes from the sale of the theatrical rights, which alone have been sold to Eros for Rs. 42 crores, while the rest includes satellite, DVDs and music rights.

The film which is directed by debutante Rajesh Mapuskar is set to release this June.

NOTE : “It will need like 75 cr India and 3 million overseas to recover”

65 Crore was toooooo much a big price to recover from a movie of such a small scale. Wrong pricing.

    Wat a joke? 65 cr?
The way boi, taran etc pumping the fks, i thought it is small budget as shanghai..

Boi calls very very poor for shanghai with 3.25 cr 1st day with 1000 prints & call decent for fks 2.75 with 8000 print which come almost same..

Boi is saying fks is having competitn with RR then wat about shanghai …

  6. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

SAM, BOI also mentioned big price tag..last line…

Ferrari Ki Sawaari had a low 20-25% opening at most places with select multiplexes in metros having better collections. Single screen collections were very dull. The film did manage to score better than last week’s Shanghai at places. The film should show a upturn on Saturday but the key will be how much it can grow. The film can score with family audiences but disadvantages are that Rowdy Rathore is super strong amongst family audience and a big price for a non star cast film.

So it is proved that Directors/producers have more or less equivalent influence on success of a movie. Someone’s controversial statement to this on NG is proven worng. It is film maker VVC that it got such a high price 65 crores and second if it is attracting audience is mainly due to VVC (makers of Three idiots and MBMMBS also using this tag line on posters).
For the same film of Sharman Joshi produced/directed by some other ABCD, it would not have attracted same percentage of audience as it is drawing now. (13 crores first weekend-good)
So someone is being proved wrong actually mostly wrong………

but their commentry doesnt suggest so… I thought big price for non star means arnd 10-15 cr… 65 cr look almost imposible.. At best 30-35 cr since tmk is coming next week which appeals to same audience.

Anyways heard lots good thing about fks wil try to catch asap..

Wat wil be the verdict of shanghai as it wil collect arnd 25 cr…

I thnk it should be hit by roi & b.avg theatrical.. So overall avg..

  11. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Shanghai Avg @ 25 cr… BOI might give Blv Avg..

Also BOI only goes by theatrical… so even if they mention FKS cost somewhat, their verdict will be based on theatrical and shares per print etc only..(ie what they claim)… more share per print for plex movies, needed compared to Single Screens etc.

  12. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

i thinbk shanghai will do more than 25 cr

    65cr…OMG Doga..!!!

    Is this fr Real???

And, Now I Wonder why was VVC Barking in dat Interview abt B’Wood Quality and Movies doing 100cr when he can’t get the Economics of a film like even FKS right.

Now I get it…On the BRAND Name of Munnabhai & 3I, VVC,Hirani and Co. have Minted a Spectacular amnt of Money thru FKS vich if even Flops @ the BO won’t matter much but VVC & His Cronies have made Crores on dis one.

    Smart Bastard!
    :D

Yes Serenzy, VVC and Co made buckets of money and Studio(EROS) had the opportunity to tag with Makers of 3 Idiots and Munnabhai…

    Doga Sir,

Please give us the Total Costs(incl. PP) of Wasseypur & TMK naa…!

And, Is Bol Bachchan Priced at “90cr” inclusive of all Costs??

  17. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Yes, FKS definitely deserves a chance. Even though the film dragged towards the end, it was a very satisfying experience. Love the kid :)

  18. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

I don’t think it is right to judge FKS on the basis of what VVC sold it for. It is obvious that Eros paid such a huge price only to get into VVC’s good books for his next big production.

FKS is a small, heart-warming film and I hope it trends well – no matter what it earns in c0mparision to its cost.

Any idea abt Wasseypur & TMK Total Cost???

Kashyap said GOW is arnd 20-22cr but I want a Confirmation.
    TMK, I have No Idea!

Btw, What was Mausam’s Total Cost???

    Sanku…Do u hv the Numbers??

  22. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Serenzy, I have heard that Ponty Chadha of Wave Cinemas has bought TMK for 48 cr.

No idea about GOW. And it is a 5-6 hour film being released in two parts so it will be difficult to get the budget of the first part. I guess Doga, Tango will be able to shed some light on this.

    Mausam’s budget was 40-45 cr I think.

    …….

    Doga,

    Dude…Need ur Help!

Another thing is that TMK makers are targeting the overseas markets in a major way. They are going to have premiers in Dubai, London and Toronto from Wednesday onwards. Also inaugurated the Indian film festival in Australia.

  25. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Serenzy- 94cr is number i heard for Bol Bachchan. It is sold at 94cr is what I heard. TMK has good chance of making money at box office. It will have to have a good word of mouth like JTYJN or atleast decent like IHLS/MBKD.

Shalu- Good to know you liked FKS.

Rockie- But second half was longer than first half! I guess you meant that second half is longer than it should have been. Good to know you liked the film.

FKS is maintaining well today in Maharashtra. Solapur is doing good and Pune’s some high profiled theaters have recorded 55-60% occupancy for morning shows. Seems like FKS will trend well this week atleast. expecting 80-85 lacs from Mumbai circuit alone for today.

    Sanket,

Gr8 to see dat FKS is cllecting and trending well.

But a HUGE COST goes against it unlike many films post2006 Phase.

Only a ATBB Kinda Trending cn Help a bit but it looks Tough given the Competetion & NO Spectacular WOM.

VVC made Money on dis one(Lots) and even the Movie cud hv made Money if Not fr the Huge Selling Price.

  28. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

FKS is feel good cinema. dragged & predictable end but still one time decent watch. 65 crores acquisition cost for this product is tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

  29. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Serenzy- Exactly! The 42cr theatrical rights could be recovered if it does 80cr in India and some 10-15cr in overseas. And mind you, I am just speaking about recovery. So yes commercially its a flop, but Hit trending may bring it to Average, at-least in my books. For hit trending it will have to do 30cr lifetime, which it can. Monday’s collections will give clearer picture.

    talk about chutiyapan

1st he is pimping FKS box office like there is no end

fuunnny thing despute audince freindly theme backed by VVC/RKH movie ha ddull start witth meager 13 cr weekend

    and BUGDET IS 65 CR

it is double the budget of shanghai

and opneing weekend is meager 13 cr for 65 budget film

his LIE was cuaghet that sunday numbers are DOUBLE than friday numbers and had BIG jump

yet why just 13 cr weekend despite FAMILY film????

on other hadn shanghai not only hhad to compete with RR and DARK POLITICAL theme still made 20 in 2nd weeked SO FAR

and it already recover its cost 19 cr

and movie will run 2 or 3 more week and probably reach 30 cr

so tell me HOW THE HECK IS THIS FREAKING DISAPOINTING

if shanghai is dispaointing then WHAT IS RAONE
