There Is Just One Comprehensive Survey – The Box Office

one more fraudulent survey, many more manipulated awards and a volley of critical abuse for an extremey popular film released last week force me to write this piece.

let me reiterate once again that all surveys and awards are nothing but frauds, pulled off on the unsuspecting reader. they are all conducted as a commercial deal and whichever actor/production team is willing to have an arrangement (of dancing at an award, providing editorial material to the paper, having deals for paid stories that all newspapers/magazines/channels have) gets these awards and comes out tops in the surveys. even the reviews are carried in the same media outlets and the writers/presenters have clear instructions from the marketing team through editors to praise some films/stars and bash others.

offcourse these magalomaniac media magnets that mint money both from the film industry and the reader/viewer can get away with this fraud because many idiots (at last count there were more than 3 idiots) think their ‘SUBJECTIVE’  views are a better judge of ‘UNIVERSAL’ quality than ‘OBJEVTIVE’ data. offcourse these very ppl get agitated when another actor’s lobby tries to prove him better than the fave of these idiots. so much for their subjective parameters of quality.

only a fool with low self confidence in his intelligence levels will believe that a critic/award jury member is more intelligent than him to believe in them. the latest farce of ndtv survey listing 15 most popular actors (having the likes of ranbeer and shahshi kapoor and missing out on akshay, putting dharmendra below much less popular actors) is just another proof of what i have always maintained.

not that boxoffice is a perfect way to judge popularity of films/actors but it is the best available so far. yes it can falter especially if you take the ‘REVENUE’ route raher than the ‘FOOTFALL’ route which are the real indicators of popularity of a film/actor. many actors who are liked by much more ppl but with less spending power buying tickets cheaper than their richer counterparts are at times underestimated in the ‘REVENUE’ based analysis. its the ‘Footfall’ route only that can give us a clear picture of the most popular actor/films.

so junk al the surveys, dump all the awards, trash all the reviews. the most popular film/actor is the one that sold maximum tickets.

    ……….

    ” the most popular

@SERENZY – OSCARS, bafta, national awards sab lobbying se milte hain. wen ashok kumar was in the jury in 1990, amitabh bachchan got a national award for hamming in agnipath but he had not got national award for zanjeer and deewar as he was in no position to lobby. wen raveena taondon’s mama mac mohan (sambha) was in the national award jury, she got it for some vague film (damand i think)

filmfare award for the year 1972 wen pakeezah released was given to beimaan, not nly in the best picture category but, hold ur breath but even best music and best lyrics category. and the song that won – well it went ‘jai bolo beimaan ki. ja ke dekh lo, ne par saare records ahin.

by the way it cant be a coincidence that beimaan producer sohanlal kanwar’s fiulms all used to get filmfare arsdw and nomnations galore thru the 70s.

as for oscars even showing ur film to the academy mebers is a PR excercize and requires huge lobbying, so forget getting an award without lobbying.

as for footfalls of dilip. amitabh, salman and rajesh khanna it will be a huge excersize but i can take it up some day. the problem is there are many diffrences of opinions on average ticket price.

also in different eras the size of population, the patronising population and the business dynamics change. however the order wud be like this

    on numbers
    1. salman
    2. amitabh
    3. shahrukh
    4. dilip

however on percentage of patronisng population the list wud be

    1. dilip kumar
    2. amitabh bachchan
    3. salman khan
    4. sharukh

on numbers front salman has the advantage of being active in an era wen the population is touching 125 cr and he is more popular in the densely populated interors while amitabh’s advantage is being active in the golden phase of bollywood where cinema theater was the only way to consume movies unlike today wen there is tv, home video, net etc.

onpercentage of patronizing population th advantage goes to dilip kumar as the population might have been small but the entire constitiency watched films in thetare. so also with amitabh bachchan. sharukh and salman suffer becoz of tv, home video etc.

if u add tv trps also to the analysis it may even out the playing field but then records are difficult to get.

danish-totally agree with ur views on awards and jury and movie critics.the number of tickets sold can easily be tracked in the same way as boxoffice collections.each single screen theatre and multiplex can keep a record of tickets sold but its a futile exercise as everyone is interested in $$$$$$.
people who think this actor overshadowed that are pure idiots.movie credit should only go to the lead male star as actresses are just props in indian cinema

dr nick, “movie credit should only go to the lead male star as actresses are just props in indian cinema”

Yes the credit for Kahani should go to Parambrata Chatterjee and the credit for The dirty picture should go to Naseeruddun Shah.

    utkal,

Dr nick is talking about majority of the films and not just a handful that you mentioned.

suprabh: If Dr Nick talked about the majority of films I would have no problem. but he says, ” “movie credit should only go to the lead male star as actresses are just props in indian cinema” I thought Dr Nick knew the meaning of ‘ only’. Therefore my objection.

Lagaan would have 100% won the Oscar if the role of Gracy Singh was not there.

utkal sir-when i used the word “only” i meant movie credit should go the male lead if he is a superstar.yes i agree vidya gets all credit for kahaani and majority of credit for dirty picture and ishqiya as she wasnt paired with a male “superstar”.same is the case with priyanka chopra who gets credit for fashion instead of arjan bajwa.even kareena will get the credit for heroine(if it works at the box office) coz arjun rampal nd randeep hooda are not “superstars”.
i have a problem with people who say tees maar khan opened humonguos because of katrina and her sheila moves coz it may have been a factor but the main reason was akki.same is the case when some imbeciles say hahk worked because of madhuri.she might be a factor but the lions share of credit for its success goes to salman khan and sooraj barjatya.
i m not as articulate as you or milind bhai therefore couldn’t put across my point properly.hopefully i have cleared my stance now.

    @dr nick -

“movie credit should only go to the lead male star as actresses are just props in indian cinema”

though u have clarified ur position to utkal on the above i must say it is partiallly true. but there are movies where heroines deserve equal or more credit. but ‘which film’ and ‘how much credit’ remains in the subjective ara and cant be an argument in a discussion.

@fazal – who is ranveer kapoor??

@mrmintu – ur views on heroines reflect so much misogyny i wonder why u ver watch movies?
