Ram Gopal Varma’s Department, which crashed at the box office, has thrown into sharp focus the fissures that ran deep within the team. The gloves are off, and the stakeholders are indulging in a slug fest with Sanjay Dutt going to the extent of saying he doesn’t want to ever join hands with RGV again. Speaking to Mirror on Monday evening, Dutt said, “Hits and flops are a part of the industry. But I really don’t know if I shall work with Ramu again.” Dharam Oberoi, CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions, too said, “I am sure that I don’t want to work with Ramu on any other project in my life. We told Ramu so often those 5D cameras, which he used, are not apt to make a film but to no avail. Ramu just does not listen.”

Dutt seconded Oberoi saying, “I have been in the industry for 32 years and I know which cameras are suitable and which are not. But ab kya karen? Jo ho gaya so ho gaya. But yes, I really don’t know at this point of time if I want to work with Ramu again.”

RGV’s reaction to the outrage was predictable: “I don’t know what they are thinking and neither do I care… but from my side, I don’t want to see the faces of Sanjay Dutt and Dharam Oberoi for the rest of my life.”

Department has been panned by critics and audiences alike, despite the stellar cast comprising Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Dagubatti. A trade expert on request of anonymity told Mirror, “The film has incurred severe losses from the time it released.”

There were reports that Dutt and Varma were at loggerheads throughout the making of the film however at that point in time, Dutt chose to remain silent. Even Oberoi had denied there were any problems. He had said: “Department is going to mark Ramu’s comeback to hard hitting films.”

But now, after the debacle, Oberoi is of a very different opinion. He said: “Department would have been worse had it not been for a few scenes that were reshot at Dutt’s insistence.”

IMO using 5D camera was not an issue, in fact this was plus point of movie.

Real issue was that the camera technique was overdone and not aptly used. And MAJOR issue was faulty writing and loose screenplay.

success has many fathers, failure has none.

Sanjay Dutt baatein to aise kar raha hai jaise is film se pehle vo koi superstar tha aur ek picture ke 20 crore leta tha.

dekhte hain sanjay dutt aane wali films mein kaunsa gul khilata hai…..

Completely agree with you Yakuza! The real problem is the way he used the camera. His “rogue” technique is not the best way to shoot this movie. It made it look more like a found-footage film.

Amole Gupte had used the 5D & 7D cameras nicely in Stanley Ka Dabba.

Smart People & producers shud invest in good scripts, talented writers and talented newcomer directors so atleast dey get a chance in d industry even if their connections are not strong.

Instead f losing crores of Black Money on Craps lyk Department, invest arnd 5-10cr on talentd and hard working ppl so dat unko atleast chance toh mile.

And who knows, we might get our next Vicky Donor,PST,KKG,OLLO,DevD etc. in that New Unproven Talent.

3d camera or whichever movie, sanjay dutt just isn’t capable of opening a film, this ramu film was no different either.

i was chatting to some bolly fanatic today regarding department and this is what they said bachan shud retire and when i said what about dutt the reply was when it looks like dutts on his way out he comes up with a super hit that makes him stay around for another 6 years giving average-semi hit movies. I REPLIED DONT you think he is abit old and fat to make that happen again and he replied they are two actors that can continue getting movies until they are 80 and they are sunny deol and dutt, i said sunny deol he’s long gone isn’t he??? and he replied them two actors dont give a damn about the numbers game or how much stick they get from critics etc but one thiug they both do he said is allways bounce back
