    k. Bhagyaraj was also supposed to direct Suryavansham in late 90′s, but he was not agree on Amitabh playing double role, he wanted some one else playing younger part. While S. Ramanathan wanted Amitabh playing double role, that’s why he change director but not casting.

And the late Divya Bharti had been originally signed for Sridevi’s role in Laadla. She had also shot for a very expensive song (reportedly the most expensive song till then). Then came her untimely demise and Sridevi was signed for her role.

The irony is that Divya Bharti was considered Sridevi’s ‘duplicate’ back then (due to physical similarities).

Shalu . . you are confused with Anil kapoor’s Laadla which was released in 1996-97 i guess.

This Laadla is another one . . which was to be made in 1986 immediately after Akhree rsate, But couldn’t go beyond planning stage.

Divya bharti was far prettier than sri devi and had the potential to be a huge superstar but damn the shiv senics…even mohra was her film…

Yes. I too remember very clearly. However, AK’s Laadla has to do nothing with it.

    Few other such examples are

    Shehenshah – Jackie Shroff (shelved)
Devaa – Amitabh, Madhuri – Dir. Subhash Ghai (shelved)
Zaahil – Amitabh – Dir: Kadar Khan (never took off)
Allahrakha – This one was written keeping Amitabh in mind.

laadla title was 1st with ramesh sippy who wanted to make it with amitabh after saagar, then after the success of akhri rasta it went to bhagyaraj (but not javed version of the script) and bhagyaraj had his own script. on the muhurat of laadla bachchan came wearing a kurta pyjama with a stoll taken like a dupatta and looked quite funny. my uncle had a magazine with that picture. in any case that film never happned. raj kanwar;s laadla was a heroine oriented film revolving around sridevi but was originally had divya bharti in it.

and tashan wat did shiv sena have to do with divya bharti?

@Tashan: What did Shiv Sena had to do with Divya Bharti??
It seems you are accusing Shiv Sena for killing Divya Bharti. I have heard rumours of Sajid Nadiadwala (her husband) killing her, but Shiv Sena ??
This is new, would you mind to elaborate more on this?

@danish u aint a teenager or are u… @rockie thats a long story…when she changed her religion its the shiva sena which was threatening her and were after her life not Sajid…so rumours dnt have much value when the on ground reality and situation back then suggested something else.

Yes Yakuza bhai I clearly remember it.

About Suryavansham, Ghai deliberately released Taal (If I am right) with it, still Suryavansham did good in the interiors, though obviously it got hit in Mumbai etc.

Tango bhai .. Never knew that Taal was released with this. At that time i was out from movie business, but still information hoti thi. I remember suryavansham was released without any publicity .. it was like sudden release. I remember opening week in mumbai was only 25% … compare this with Lal badshah(74%), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan(100%) and Major Saab (92%).

Right prg. Suryavanshi was Sallu movie and I saw the shooting near Manali, magar director ne picture ka kabada kar diya tha.

Suryavanshi (Salman wali) director was my fav Rakesh kumar who had awesome track record with Amitabh in Mr NatwarLal, Yaraana, Do aur do paanch and khoon pasina. I still can’t believe he made this crap with Salman. Even his commander with mithun was good.

@Tango…”magar director ne picture ka kabada kar diya tha”

agree … that movie was a trash… don’t know what they wanted to make… i remember the songs “Goob bye namaste salaam” and “Jogi Tere Pyaar Mein” from the movie

I loved suryavansham…amitabh was great and the music was too good, one of the best for an amitabh starrer plus the comic scenes where hilarious:D and at the end old amitabh dancing with grandson was perfect.

Yakuza bhai by that time multiplex culture was setting in plus Rahman’s music was a huge hit. Picture bhi achchi thi.

Mujhe kuch aisa hi yaad hai but ho sakta hai main wrong hoon and Taal & Suryavansham released ek do week aagey peechey.

Taal was good movie .. no doubt. Subhash ghai just lost after this. Problem ye ho gayi that even with hits like Pardes and Taal, his showmanship was going down. To revive the magic he tried same formula again in Kisna and Yuvraj .. but by this time such treatment of movie got out of fashion.

Now when Masala movies are back in business, Subhash ghai can try again his masala brand stuff. Only problem i can see is .. Music .. LP Magic can never be created again, and it was highlight of Subhash ghai movies.

@Yakuza/Tango Bhai, Sooryavansham is one of my all time favourite movie love the song kore kore sapney mere, i have seen it so many times and this is one film that i have never got bored of watching it so many times until today.

Performances were good in the film, Big B was excellent in both roles (Bhanu Pratap/Heera loved the latter’s performance more also loved Kader Khan’s and Anupam’s chemistry together they were damn funny, i’m surprised why it didn’t do well at the BO but i think it released during the cricket world cup at that time (correct me if i’m wrong) and therefore it didnt do too well, they should have released it on another date :(

@Serenzy – Suryavansham is Epic Cult Movie, totally agree with you there WHAT A MOVIE :)

@tashan – i hope u aint a paedophile. main teenager hoon ya nahin uski aapko kya fikr hai? by the way i never heard shiv sena had any role in divya bharti’s death.

@yakuza – rakesh kumar’s commander didnt have mithun in it. that was b shubhas’s commando. commander had amjad khan as hero.

by the way, wasnt rakesh kumar the weakest director (apart from tinnu anand) amongst bachchan’s favourites? i mean none of his films were even clean hits.

i am amazed so many ppl love suryavansham here. but then again its telecast so many times on tv with good ratings, there must be sumthing in it. i respect democratic verdicts of ppl always.

“Watch it every time wen it airs on TV.”

me too… i like this movie a lot… the movie has Southern flavor which is obvious as its remake

but fardeen khan’s Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein(another south remake) is the movie that i have the most no. of times on TV

  22. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

yes but compared to desai, chopra, mehra they were the weakest still they are ur fave????/

    • Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Yes in comparison to these giants .. both were too far .. but nonetheless their movies were much entertaining(along with good music) with high repeat value.
