Shah Rukh could have been Munnabhai: Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra says that Shah Rukh Khan had always been his first choice for most of his films, be it 3 Idiots, ‘Munnabhai MBBS’, or the yet-to-be released Ferrari Ki Sawari. “Shah Rukh was offered ’3 Idiots’, ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’, ‘Munnabhai’ and other films. He is our first guy – we go to him first and if he says no, then we move on,” Chopra told reporters here.
Shah Rukh had backed out of ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ because of back trouble and could not do ’3 Idiots’ because of date issues.
If Chopra had his way, SRK would have been the Munnabhai of ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ and Sanjay Dutt would have played the small role of Zaheer, a cancer patient.
“Today, I feel Sanjay is perfect as Munna and same way Sharman fits the central role in ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’. It is all about writing and getting the right actor for the right role, which is difficult,” Chopra said.

9 0This happens all the time with most of actors, If SRK lose with 3I and MunnaBhai, he gained earlier with Darr(Aamir) and Baazigar(Salman). Even Amitabh lost Mr. India to Anil Kapoor(though probably this is to my mind one and only successful movie he refused, rest all were flopped like Allahrakha, King Uncle etc ). Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna lost deewar to Amitabh, Shatrughan lost Sholay to Amitabh.Danny lost Sholay to Amzad Khan …. But when we look back all those roles, they looked perfectly played by respective actor and its hard to imagine any one else in those roles. Can you think Rajesh khanna playing vijay of Deewar ? Or Danny playing Gabbar singh ?

5 3I really doubt that Robot would have made him the “biggest superstar”. I thanks the Gods that SRK didn’t do a film in which mosquitoes gain the magical ability to have logical conversations, or for that matter a film where a single kiss from Aishwarya makes the Robot fall in love. Ra.One had a large number of flaws, but they weren’t as dumb as that.

10 1As far as Lagaan and RDB concerned, who knows how these movies would have been shaped up without Aamir .. director of both movies fall flat in other attempts. Even Swadesh could have done by Aamir and became superhit .. so what’s the point of regret in that case ?

- Zanjeer was offered to Dev Anand and Raj Kumar also. Devanand rejected the offer because there was no song for the hero in it. Raj Kumar rejected for no valid reason. As oer the FF of that time, after hearing the story Raj kumar said to prakash mehra “Jaani story to bahut achchi hai, film chalegi bhi bahut, par mujhe tumhari shakal pasand nahin hai isliye main ye film nahin kar sakta” (I dont know how far this story was true.
