WILL BLOOD MONEY BE BHATTS’ ‘NON-EMRAAN’ HIT?
In the last couple of years, Mahesh Bhatt-Mukesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films have delivered many hits but all of them were Emraan Hashmi starrers, including last year’s blockbuster Murder 2! In between, the Bhatts produced films which didn’t star Emraan and sadly all of them – Nazar, Woh Lamhe, Showbiz and Jashnn – were big time flops. Bhatt’s next Blood Money too doesn’t have Emraan and instead, Kunal Khemu is the lead. And unfortunately, because of the low buzz for the film, Blood Money too doesn’t seem that it’ll be a commercial success. However, since it’s a Bhatt product, it surely can be expected to be a well-made product.
Blood Money is the directorial debut of Vishal Mahadkar and alongwith Kunal, it also stars Amrita Puri who was loved by one and all in Aisha. The film has been shot in picturesque locations of South Africa. Songs have been well appreciated, especially Chahat. The poster of the film (also uploaded with the post) is definitely titillating but also quite smart (check out Kunal’s expression). The film initially didn’t create buzz at all. Then, a lovemaking video of Kunal and model Mia Uyeda from the film got ‘accidentally leaked’. The film then finally grabbed eyeballs! Needless to say, the Bhatts refused when asked if it was a publicity stunt!
Blood Money sadly has huge obstacles. The film is being compared with the Hollywood hit Blood Diamond although both films are poles apart. Blood Money is about a middle class man getting sucked into the illegal diamond trading by his establishment while Blood Diamond, according to IMDb dealt with ‘a fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond’. The only similarity is that both films are related to diamonds mined in African war zones and illegally smuggled. Secondly, as said before, buzz isn’t significant and hence a good opening can be ruled out. If word is mouth is good, it surely has some chances to at least recover the costs. And that should not be difficult as Bhatt’s films most of the times are reasonably priced. Also, in my opinion, Bhatts’ products are based on good concepts and well made. So here’s hoping that Blood Money is a Bloody Good Film!
WOULD YOU LIKE TO WATCH BLOOD MONEY AND WHY? DO LET ME KNOW!
I was waiting for Friday March 16 with bated breath. No Hindi film was releasing on this day and yet the date was keenly awaited as Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed 3D film Hugo was to hit screens in India. But alas! As the day approached, it was revealed that Hugo won’t release, not only on the said date but on any other Friday! This gave a huge blow to millions like me who were waiting to catch the film on big screen. #WeWantHugo started trending on Twitter – a clear indication that the film was being awaited.
So why isn’t Hugo releasing? According to Raja Sen, the distributors (Viacom 18) didn’t feel that it will do a good business in India and hence decided to do away with its release here! Very unfortunate, if this indeed is the real reason! The distributors could have released the film in limited screens if they feared losses. I am sure viewers would have flocked to see this film. Sadly, viewers would have to wait for the TV telecast or download the film from torrent websites. But Hugo is a film that deserves big screen watch. Avatar director James Cameron has called it ‘best 3D film ever’! How are we going to experience the magic on our computer monitors or LCD/LED TV? So so sad!
