Box Office collections dropped over the weekend trade analysts say the surviva depends on Monday’s report.
An ambitious film perfect solo release grand publicity, and Bollywood’s exciting reel and real life jodi, but Agent Vinod failed to leave a mark in the action spy thriller genre. The Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer that opened on March 23, received mixed response from the critics and proved to be a disappointment at the Box Office.
Even Sunday couldn’t fetch Agent Vinod the expected audience. “The weekend was weak. In three days the film has done a business of Rs 18 to 20 crore all over India The makers will have to bear a loss of Rs 15 to 20 crore. Agent Vinod is not up to the mark and today is a very crucial day for it,” said Vikas Mohan of Super Cinema trade weekly on Monday. “About 30% to 40% collection happened and even on Sunday the theatre was empty.
The masses simply didn’t like the film.” Renowned film critic Taran Adarsh claimed, “The film has got mixed response and has managed to get Rs.30 crore in its first week. Some people in multiplex have taken it well and few didn’t like it.”
However, trade analyst Amod Mehra, who foresees a dul future for the film said, “There is nothing special about Agent Vinod. Friday, it made a business of almost Rs 9 crore and today the film will crash. The audiences didn’t like it as they didn’t understand it.”
Bollywood trade websites too have gone after Agent Vinod with all guns blazing Koimoi wrote that the spy thriller with its slick action and a mujra thrown in, opened to a good response on Friday with Rs 9.5 crore; but the collection dipped on Saturday to Rs 8.5 crore and again managed to claw its way up to Rs 9.5 crore on Sunday, taking its weekend total to just Rs 27.50 crore net Box Office Capsule, which said Agent Vinod was badly affected by bad word of mouth as majority of the audience did not like it, reported a business of Rs 31.75 crore over the weekend, mainly due to the regional holiday
According to Businessofcinema, the weekend collections of Agent Vinod were lower than expectations and the three day total business amounted to approximately Rs 27.50 crores.
