EKK DEEWANA THA-PRATEIK’S FIRST SOLO HERO HIT?
The small-budget film Ekk Deewana Tha (EDT), which releases tomorrow, have managed to make a lot of noise in the industry. Although the film stars newbie Amy Jackson and also Prateik who haven’t a great run at the box office recently, the film has created excitement because of the promos and most importantly, the songs composed by A R Rahman and written by Javed Akhtar.
EDT is directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon who’s first and last Hindi film was the much acclaimed Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM). Just like RHTDM, EDT too is a remake of Gautham’s Southern films and the Hindi version is actually the 3rd remake. Both – the Tamil as well as the Malayalam versions – worked because it was a simple love story which was beautifully executed and the songs were like an icing on the cake. And sure enough, with EDT too seems like Gautham has recreated its magic at the box office and hence it is expected to touch hearts just like its Southern counterparts. By Gautham’s own admission, the film is almost 80-90% similar to the earlier versions. As for music, it is heavenly! Hosanna has topped the chartbusters and the other songs – Phoolon Jaisi, Sharminda Hoon, Aromale, Dost Hai Hum To etc – too have been loved. The instrumentals have a haunting feeling and are worth listening to repeatedly. In addition, there’s a lovely song Mohabbat and Rahman himself has featured in its music video, his first ever for any film! In fact, Rahman has gone on record to say that EDT is his most romantic album till date!
In a first of its kind, the makers of EDT have not only shot two endings for the film but audiences will also get to see it in the theatres as well. Mostly, alternate climax is featured only in the DVD but EDT makers will showcase the second ending only in select theatres. This might or might not work as everyone won’t see the film again to simply check out the other ending. But it’s a definitely a good move!
However, EDT has several odds too. The songs have been loved and EDT and its actors are all over the place but audiences aren’t very excited to see the film. The film needs a very positive response to excel at the box office and sustain in theatres. The best part is that EDT doesn’t have a strong competition and hence if received well, EDT can do good business at the box office!

WORLD’S FIRST UNTITLED FILM TO RELEASE TOMORROW!
Percept Pictures has come up with a film with technically no title. The title just has a question mark (?) and that’s what the film is called! It’s an extremely small budget film shot by two chemical engineers (Yash Dave-Allison Patel). This horror film belongs to the ‘found footage’ genre and attempts to scare audiences by the footage recorded by students who, in the film, are shooting their project. Very sadly, the poster and promos instantly remind one of a similar Hollywood film, The Blair Witch Project. Hence, its target audience, the youth, hasn’t given thumbs up to the film. A very positive response from audience and critics is what can save the film!
